@@douglasbubbletrousers4763 I seen the movie. Haven't read the book yet. The movie was really messed up. I couldn't make it through the first time because while there was nothing graphic, Joe's description of his injuries hurt my heart. I don't think we're supposed to take everything in this scene as having some basis on what actually happened. The scene up until the Boss actually starts giving a speech is pretty heavily symbolic (like the rest of the film--which I think does a brilliant job of capturing the Jungian wilderness of the subconscious and dream states. The rest of the characters in that section of the scene are all speaking and moving symbolically, so the thing to do would be to examine the boss' actions.

cont. And judging by the fact he sounds like a broken record and moves about like an automaton I'd say that the commentary is that the boss is only putting on an act that's expected of him (the Fezzywig role of giving a Christmas party). The fact that he later starts "Keep the Home Fires Burning" which devolves into a non-resolution chord instead of its tonic chord also serves as a hint as "something's off key, as though he doesn't truly believe this sentiment.
@luisruperez19213 жыл бұрын
I also think that the fact that he has to repeat 3 times "fellow workers" and they only aknowledge him when he secreams it shows that he doesn't have power by respect, only by fear, on his workers

What’s going on is the nurse wrote MERRY CHRISTMAS on his belly, he has dreams about his memories but also in the dreams, his friends or family talk to him like they know he’s gone, most of the time he knows something is very wrong with the people in them, like that “liberty and justice” guy.

Commenting on how the boss doesn't really give a damn, is my best guess. He's fulfilling an expected roll of playing the "Fezzywig" role without actually being one. In that light the party isn't so much about actually giving his workers time, as it is about him being concerned about how he looks and what is expected of him as "the boss", and when filling out that role, he only fills it out in the barest of minimum--repeating the minimum ad hoc instead of living the role. My best guess.
@Brendon1019873 жыл бұрын
I feel like the point of this scene is that after joe has spent so long inside his own head not knowing what is reality and what is a dream that his memories are failing him so while he remembers these things, his brain is so scrambled and hes lost his mind so much that the memories are heavily distorted and extremely odd.
