What pisses me off even more is when non car people then tell us that we should just go to a race track if we want to drive fast or spirited... this applies moreso to the self-driving car and ICE car ban discussions about people who rightfully point out that cars are a hobby to many people and by banning the act of driving or discouraging the production of fun cars, hobbyists are screwed over. Insurance will fuck you over if you tell them you want to take your daily or weekend car to the track. If you want to be super legal about it you need a car to tow your racing car, not to mention a helmet and other safety equipment installed in your car. Then there's the matter of driving to your nearest track on a day when you have time to go to the event being held, and paying the fee. I drove nearly half a day just to go to my first autocross event! as far as I know, my "local" track doesn't host anything but track days and races, which my WRX is certainly not eligible to participate in. If they did, I'd try to go there more because idgaf about watching races, I want to drive! But yeah people think that we can just "go to a racetrack" whenever we want. It is quite literally cheaper and easier to just send it down an empty road at night when no one's looking.

I call it the suburban cancer cell. it's the same shit that devours farmland and wilderness while making the city infinitely worse because everyone who visits bitches and whines about a lack of parking. I live in St. Louis where we haven't had a racetrack since the 90s, and its current site is now a residential development way on the edge of wentzville generating far more traffic than the racetrack could ever hope to. the suburbs ruin cities, now let's spend the next 50 years undoing the damage

I went to a track once, it was 3-4 hrs of driving there and back, I think I was there for 4-6 hours. All for not even half a minute of seat time, I only got to do 2 runs, both of which I bodged horribly. People who say take it to the track don't have a fucking clue how difficult it actually is to do that under the BEST circumstances. Don't even get me started on building a car to regulations to get on a track with actual corners. And then you still have to get a racing license for wheel to wheel. They act like it's golf where we can throw a set of clubs in the trunk drive 30m to a course, walk in, pay, have our fun and leave. Then on top of everything they're shutting down what few tracks we have/have left to begin with.

@@moussamiller4812While that is true, they still end up forcing special procedures for takeoffs and landings. Often times, they'll have noise abatement takeoff procedures where the aircraft holds the brakes and maximum thrust until the engines have spooled up, then release the brakes and then have to takeoff extremely steep, sometimes so steep that it's pushing the aircraft to it's limits, and then around 1,000 feet, they have to level out and reduce engine power and quietly leave the area before being able to climb like normal. The most extreme of these is KSNA in Southern California, which is often regarded as the steepest commercial airport takeoff in the world. I've flown out of there before, it is quite intense.

In Formula 1 you had a lot of innovations over time regarding the powertrain, making it more efficient, hybridization and so on. In Formula E it is pretty much a higher density battery, more powerful and lighter motors, higher charging/discharging rates... basically a few iterations ahead of the tech that you can buy already, so nothing dramatic like, I don't know, charging batteries from exhaust gases.

Meanwhile, they complain about street racing taking up their taxes, and the property value is going down due to the local economy crashing when they eventually win and shut down the biggest part of there economy. This issue happened with DFW Airport near where I live. Build an airport in the middle of nowhere, people build a city around it, and complain about jet engine noise after choosing to live next to thunderous turbofans paradise. We should move for a legislative movement to protect racetracks and promote them since otherwise there are safety issues as well as give tracks "We were here first!" rules. I am doing a youth and government bill on that next year.

Hate left lane campers with a passion, they think the PASSING lane is "the fast lane" and that fast exclusively means 5 mi an hour over the limit, like the majority aren't doing 20 over nowadays bc limits haven't changed in half a century but cars have. Which I wish Bladed would do a video on that, maybe draw awareness to all the issues it causes, like massive speed differentials, ie. what actually causes accidents NOT speeding, but the fact that grandpa will do the limit no matter how ridiculous it is or that everyone else is doing 20 over. Or the fact that god forbid you be doing 25 over and get pulled over the ticket is going to destroy you bc you aren't doing 5 over, you're doing 25 over. The best part is, the same assholes on the radio saying "sPeEdInG kIlLs" are the same ones profiteering off of not changing the limits(Which would in fact makes things safer, bc of aforementioned speed differentials being the real issue) to follow THEIR OWN GUIDELINES on setting limits, which is an 80% rule, bc 80% of us 99% of the time just want to drive at the maximum reasonably safe speed, almost like we want to get where were going in a timely fashion, while not having an accident. Crazy.

Yet if they are private ones... Its very common for them to be closed. In Poland a brand new shooting range was closed before openning as home owners decided against it (suddenly) when it was week away from being finished.

Suburban sprawl is a huge problem in the states not only for racetracks and car enthusiasts but it’s also challenging the “Land of the free” argument because if you can’t walk or bike on the land you have the right to use, it ain’t really free. And suburbs are only cementing that fact even more with how we end up with poor land use decisions that will eventually take over all the race tracks and all we will be left with is huge 8 lane roads where hell be damned if you want to walk or bike to work or the grocery store or in this case drive your car on the racetrack without it being overrun by an HOA picket fence neighborhood with overpriced houses.

We're now halfway through February and 2 of the 5 motocross tracks have had their licenses revoked and they're trying to shut down one of the rallycross tracks too. Funnily enough 1 of the groups that got the first motocross track shut down came out and said it wasn't their intention and are now helping to reopen it although with more strict regulations. Back in the 90s there were over 100 motocross tracks in the country so over 90% have already closed throughout the years, I know 1 rallycross track that was very popular in the 80s shut down and is now being used by a driving school and occasionally to train first responders

Cities should become more pedestrian and people oriented, and nkt car oriented. Car guys will benefit from it too as less 40yo moms that hate driving will be on the road, and racetracks would make more sense as an outlet or sport, as you don't want more cars in the city

They also need to be accessible and have enough variety to fit the desires of every enthusiast. I do not want to take my WRX to an oval track or drag strip. I want to take it to a winding mountain road where I can experience it's immense level of grip. But I can't afford to go if I will have my insurance policy dropped over even *mentioning* this to them in an effort to be as transparent as possible, nor can I justify the trip if it is several hours away. But if people needed less cars, then that would free up land where new tracks can be developed. The problem is though, I suspect that if public transport got to the level where it's the 'defualt', then suburbia would expand to the point where outside of city limits it would either be vast farms or cookie cutter neighborhoods.

We have a major issue with street takeover guys now, since nobody has an outlet. Also, with those private places, it costs at minimum, $1,000,000 to buy a property or use their cars for $2,000 for two hours on track. It sucks for the community worse than not having it, you shouldn't have a massive paywall to drive a car at your limits.

This problem is several times worse for rc car hobbyists. it would seem like you could just take them just about anywhere, but thats not really the case, as, depending on where you live, a lot of places that seem ideal end up being preservation areas, so even if it is legal to drive them off the trail, its probably not the best idea. Since rc cars don’t really contribute to the economy, specialized tracks are few and far between, and are constantly being torn up and replaced with tennis courts. In my opinion, some of the most fun you can have with an rc car is driving it around a skate park. But here’s the thing, most of them are indoors, and either don’t allow rc cars, or are too full to risk driving. And, get this, public parks rarely have skateboard areas, AND the ones the do have them are constantly tearing them down too, so even the skateboarders are getting fucked over, so what are we supposed to do?

Just a little something to add and maybe help with the algorithm: I know of an old drag strip here in my town (apparently founded in the 70's) that was closed in the early 90's to be turned into a bus parking lot at a bus station. You can still see the dark marks where the old gassers and pro-streeters used to do burnouts before each run. A friend of my friend's father even still has an old first generation VW Gol that he turned into a front-wheel drive dragster... I don't know the whole story, I only found out about it recently... it's so weird to think that my town has already had some form of motorsport at some point in its history...

The same thing happens to airports and the airline always wins because they were here first and not all these house. I for one would love to live near a racetrack and watch cars race from my window or back porch. This whole thing is pretty much karens trying to take away our fun and enjoyment in life. If they can't be happy then they just have to try and ruin it for everyone else

What also helps: airports are seen as more utilitarian. Their benefits are very obvious to anyone, even non-aviation enthusiasts.

It can be the same way with railroads. People move in near railroad crossings where trains sound their whistles/horns to alert people they're coming, and then complain about the noise. Then they petition the local council to make the crossing a "quiet zone", council agrees and forbids the railroad from doing blowing the whistles/horns, leading to an increase and highly likely potential of people getting hit by trains which are much quieter today than they used to be. Many survivors often said that they didn't hear the train coming.

I live in southern Utah, and around Saint George, there was a much more celebrated car culture than there is today. They used to have a runway up on top of this plateau overlooking the city, and they used it often for drag racing. It used to be more of a retirement community way back when, so there were all manner of nice old cars that loved to show off there. They even had a boulevard take over event each year. It was great. But then Saint George became one of the fastest growing cities in America. Now there’s nonstop reckless driving from all walks of life everywhere you go. Lots of rich people with nice cars or motorcycles act stupid wherever you go. I wish they had a track or local strip still for them. The closest place is vegas, but that’s four hours round trip of just driving to go do it from Saint George. The only thing you can get today is the occasional 4 hour car show, where nothing of note really happens

The race tracks should try to get a allodial title for the property. Then it makes it harder for the government to make them move or take their property.

This happened at Imola circuit in Italy also, it has almost been closed a few years ago for noise complaints of a bunch of people that had just build an house close to it. Right now only F1 and major events can be hosted but it is never open to free laps of normal people

Lowkey i would like to see some of these communities deal with street racing as a protest against shutting the track down. If you allow for compromise, many young people would greatly benefit from having a local track to safely push their limits and have fun. If you want to stop street racing, then make it easier for people to drive their cars fast in a safe environment. I would love to go to NFS ProStreet style race weekends where people can race against eachother with whatever car they got in the garage. And quite frankly, sim racing doesn't scratch that itch for me anymore.

Sim racing does get very boring very quickly. (Unless it's modded Mariokart of course lmao)

@@Tornado2409 I can appreciate it as a tool to get used to driving maneuvers and training but the g forces, body roll, pitch, yaw, and the general fact that what's happening is real and not simulated makes actual racing so much more sweet. After having played racing games for years because I was too young to have my license, and now having my license... I don't ever want to go back.

So glad you covered this topic. All that closing tracks does for me is make me want to find the loudest, most powerful, most pollutive car I can find and go annoy the hell out of the people who had it closed.

Ong this sucks. Used to go to a place called belle Clair that was a small dirt track with my grandpa. Made too many memories for it to just shut down.

Where I live some rich beach house owners got the local government to put something on the window of the lighthouse (on the land-facing side). The actual people who lives there then complained and the government realising they had a point whent back on their decision and said: “if you dont like it go live somewhere else”.

I appreciate the mentality that you treat investors and businessmen with decency to assume there is no deliberate lack of consideration for the racetracks. I'm far more sure that the country clubs and developers know that the general public will not do their due diligent research and know the race track is there, and eventually they can force the race track to shut down and hijack the area. The general public already see us as horrible people and want modified cars to disappear and tell us to "find other hobbies", when most of them have no understanding of real passion for anything. They have no idea what it is to lose a passion, nor do they care.

In the region of Sweden i live in first we have Mantorp Park a track previously used for F2, F3 in the 70s and 80s but people moving the seem to have a problem with it being there. My town of Motala during the 90s we had Mxgp 250class today the bigg class, but because of noise complaining and we wanting the inbreed sport of folkrace it also meant they salted the track and then got the factory teams angry after their bikes started to rust. That was probably the start of my town getting rear-ended by the world, Electrolux, Luxor, Dometic, ABC computers, 30min north Husaberg

Palm Beach International Raceway closed down a couple of years ago because they wanted to turn it into a shopping center or some other bullshit reason. Never mind the fact that Pratt & Whitney is literally across the street building/testing jet engines louder than your grandma on her wedding night.
