I heard if you slide your card between your butt cheeks and squeeze extra tight for at least 3 minutes. Then carefully remove and place in a $15 cigar humidor you paid $100 for is usually the best way to mitigate all forms of card damage and is virtually undetectable by PSA. Other than the card smells like ass sweat.

Yeah, the issue is the card care is actually masking damages such as surface damage on the holofoil. Its deceptive. As grading techniques improve and other grading companies emerge with higher quality scans that detect this. A card can go from a PSA 10 to unable to grade or Authentically Altered which would substantially impact the value. In theory you could defrauded 100's of thousands if its like a PSA 10 first edition charizard. You immediately enter substantial legal territory, not just civil.

@OpossumBud I think at some point in the future, there will be an inflection point in the hobby where slabbed tens simply aren't trusted, especially ones with old cert numbers. There's some speculation that older slabs with dust in them are actually card care product that has dried and fallen off over time. It'll be interesting to see how the market reacts to this and if this actually becomes a major concern amongst collectors. I'm extremely hesitant to purchase vintage holo tens and have somewhat thought of 7's/8's as being a safer buy since they have a bit of patina that sorta proves they havent been altered by card care.

With fakes, resealed, etc, etc.. I think card restoration is very low on the list of things collectors should be concerned about it or will ever be impacted by. People who crack slabs to grade up are typically the same money bros that restore cards 🤷‍♀️

I work in a prison we have different types of lights that can see chemicals on paper. (To detect k2) if we can do that on shit paper and photo pictures. they can do that with Pokémon cards

Yeah... not disclosing that kind of stuff is a bit scary in that it starts letting compromises in card conditions. I mean, I'm not looking to sell my cards, but I don't want to buy something mint, only to find it has streaks on it. Cardboards are fragile items that cannot be restored. Like trading cards, its a shattered glass that will never be perfect once being put back together. Better to get a filthy trash that you can keep than to pick a shiny junk that wont have a value at all

Before I watch the video I was leaning towards cleaning can be like a restoration process but then your arguments made me kind of think the other way. if I was buying a classic car or an art piece I would want to know if it's original or if it's been restored. Cuz that would drastically affect my opinion of the price point too. And asking myself if I picked up a card and later found out it was cleaned, for the price I paid, I probably would be upset. Cuz in my opinion that it's not really original. I like where you stand, cleaning and Restoration is probably fine if You hold on to it. But if your intentions are to sell it, it should be disclosed.

I care if I buy a card that has been splooged with unknown chemicals which hides and masks damage or could potentially damage the card over time. Any card that is secondhand raw or graded recently is making me second guess whether I want to buy them for the personal collection. Been seeing quite a lot of vintage holo wotc cards on Ebay with absolutely flawless holo foil but have noticable wear and tear on the edges and corners.

I could see if ppl were cleaning sub $50 cards then that could cause an issue. But a vast majority of people who would be buying anything worth $200+ in a 10 are money bros. If a money bro gets stuck holding a bag then what’s the big deal? A majority of ppl who collect for fun aren’t buying $200 cards. And if they do it’s once so they can have it in their collection forever. And if you’re collecting the value shouldn’t really matter. This is why I've been hesitant to buy anything higher end on the secondary market for the past year or slightly more. I bet almost every short term thinking idiot has bought and used that crap on a bunch of cards. Who knows how many splooged copies of cards are circulating out there now. There is no way this won't become a major problem down the road. I'm almost 100% certain something will happen to the physical appearance of splooged cards over time.

it funny how now it a problem for the grading companies after they been doing it over the past few years and longer, people add a chemical to a card not knowing what it going to do to it. Kurt got a plug and psa never change that Victor Wembanyama card they graded to altered when the guy there said thanks to Kurt and his cream. plus, it just an opinion, what a card grade is and only good for that day. I get people are going to protect grading. since they have given these companies thousands of dollars. people who are grading have no idea or the equipment to tell if something is on the card or had something add to it. there is no standard in the grading companies at all it about how much they can take from you, especially from psa charging a percent now trying to predict what your card going to sell for by giving you a high grade that the biggest scam.

I think saying there are very few who came into the hobby then (2020/2021) as a collector is pretty off base. Gotta consider age ranges, the new kids, the folks who started watching vids about building a collection and thought it was cool, I mean you have your real breaking nate fans who see his library of binders and think damn that'd be a cool project with my kids etc. Even with that I'm sure you aren't wrong about a boom in money chasers. If people send PSA 10's to BGS and demand a 10 back or don't crack, BGS won't crack it unless they are nearly certain it will get a 10. Never once had them crack something and not match the demanded grade.
