EVs: *brings more freedom and potential for amazing and perhaps crazy designs* Car designers: Best we can do is egg
@SomeOne_86 Жыл бұрын
It actually doesn't bring bring more freedom for designers. Yes they don't need to account for the engine and base the dimensions around that, but eventually most electric cars will need to be as aerodynamic as possible, and will end up looking like soap bars.
@LAndrewsChannel Жыл бұрын
@@SomeOne_86 "eventually most electric cars will need to be as aerodynamic as possible", why? Do you expect to have an equivalent to "emissions" standards, but for efficiency? Even if that might be the case, at lower speeds the shape of the car doesn't matter as much so, as long as it is not a 2T+ behemoth with the aerodynamics of a brick, a lot of designs will fit the bill and, in the worst case, get a lower efficiency mark like home appliances too. AFAIK there is no legislation to not sell inefficient appliances so why would it be different for EVs?
@SomeOne_86 Жыл бұрын
@@LAndrewsChannel Oh, trust me they'll bring in Empg at some point. Even right now many electric cars are considered very inefficient regarding how much electricity they use. And this will only have a larger effect as more people get conned into buying EV's. Electricity prices are already jumping in many countries, but this is just the start. If the EU's plans become real, and ICE cars get banned from sale, electricity will be at least 20 times as expensive as it is now. Also I find it funny how you're talking about low speeds, when most of these things will be on sale in developed countries where most of the driving is done on highways, at high speed.
@LAndrewsChannel Жыл бұрын
@@SomeOne_86 "get conned into buying EV", ah yes, because EVs are a scam and there is nothing good about them. Do you really think you will have cheap gas and 20x times the electricity cost? At worst an EV will be on par with a gas car when it comes to "fueling". A big chunk of the population of a developed country live in cities so the commutes are short and they certainly do not involve highway speeds so saying that "most of the driving is done on highways" is simply wrong and baseless. A lot of cars in these countries mostly see city driving with occasional highway miles.

It genuinely makes me sad that one day I'll be sitting with my son or grandson on my lap and he asks me "Dad/Grandpa, what were cars like in your time?" And I'll have to show him what's left of my 1987 Chevy Camaro IROC-Z and tell him "Back in my day cars had engines, back then cars had souls. I'm so sorry your generation will never get to feel and experience the pleasure😢"

Yea, honestly doubt we'll go down that road. Once everyone realizes that those lithium batteries will just be sitting in a landfill for the most part, we'll likely reconsider our haste. The average batt only lasts 100,000 miles. Think about that for a second. Also, we should consider what this will do to the lower class. Do you really think you can just live out of an electric car? Who will be able to afford them to begin with? Sure, there are budget options, but that doesn't do anything about the imminent maintenance and repairs that you will not be able to do by yourself. Not to mention the fact that an outright switch to EV would only aid in taking driving away entirely. There are multiple proponents of a total switch to self driving vehicles already. Imagine if every car ever just had the inherent ability, we wouldn't even truly have a choice at that point. At any moment, operating your own vehicle could be taken, not even just some certificate that says you can but your literal ability to do so.

i agree with most of what you said. the most concept cars are getting too much “fUtuRIsTiC” indeed. some concepts are just gonna end up on some meme goofy ahh car lists. they look like bull💩. some i think do look cool, but i sure hope we keep car design how it should be, for instance: the Mclaren 750S. All the lines, it’s just so magnificent. good video as always, keep up the good work bro!

I'm just anti ev in general, honestly. The way they're produced, the pollution that's required and produced to manufacture the batteries as well as the strip mining is just total hypocrisy in the name of being "environmentally friendly", and there's nothing we can do about it. So yeah, I'll be honest, I do as well just love the sound, smell, and feel of gas engines. Nothing will come close, ever. Will it be a hard pill to swallow when gas is eventually outlawed? For sure, but I can say I'll probably try and ignore it all just to pretend it's still all fine, because after all the N74 is one sleek retro design that you can't hate which proves they have the capacity to make awesome modern cars... they just choose to push bs in the name of "the future". Ps. If you're gonna argue about how lovely and environmentally friendly these ev batteries are, leave me out of it, thanks in advance. Also can't believe I'm a month late to this masterpiece...

At least the hovercars in Futurama, which take place in the 31st century, actually look like cars from the 50s or 60s as opposed to bulky, glorified home and kitchen appliances. And not one of them is an EV! Just in case you're curious, the episode "Put Your Head on My Shoulders" has Amy's brand new car run out of gas on Mercury when she went out on a date with Fry.

I honestly don't think the combustion ever will truly die out in racing maybe on the highest levels it wont be present but there will people who aren't racing to win trophies but just for the experience of going fast with loud engines and banging gears.

"The Future looks like the past but it works better." I do like me some crazy-@$$ concept cars. I miss those from the 1980s and 90s. And you could tell if a car maker was serious about making the car because it looks like it would actually work on normal streets. I tend to ignore the crazier concepts because I KNOW those are not going to make it to production.

I agree with the "retro bike designs" coming back into fashion. In India, models of the Czech motorcycle brand Jawa were incredibly popular in the 1970s, so much so that when the local licensee went out of business in the 90s, people were scrambling to get them, even as second-hand bikes. After a gap of 25 years, the brand again came back into India, and when it re-launched, its first model was an EXACT replica of the original, only with a more efficient and powerful 4-stroke engine, going as far as to split the exhaust port in two to get the iconic twin-exhaust look. Even the length and shape of the pipes were carefully designed to replicate the thump of the original as closely as possible.

Yeah, I havent really been fussed on cars until the last year or so simply from not needing 1, but now I am looking more and more into it I just dont see why so many seem to want to abandon the more classical looks beyond knowing its cost saving for profit margins (paint choices, shape, no buttons only a touch screen saving money). I can 100% understand how companies like Morgan and Caterham here are still going strong and have even gotten new competition from others like Pembleton and a bunch of other small startups taking inspiration from old designs or outright buying and renovating them for the modern day/EV market like the Morris JE Van, Citron 2CV in electric, etc.

futuristic in the 80s: you take something that exists and you put random things on it that make some sense and can be justified futuristic now: make everything as simple, sleek, and aerodynamic as possible

Even though this is completely off topic.. it's the same with architecture and design of not just cars. I'm tired of people making barebone glass buildings that look like boxes or curvy shapes with no soul. It's sad how especially as someone from Vegas for example, we used to have resorts full of theme and soul. And now the new ones are stripping all that away. You can still add a ton of new technology but it's sad that everything is turning so bland.
