I rescued an 8 yo outside stud dog last year and he has never had a single accident nor destroyed a thing. He is better behaved than my 8 yo house dog.

It must be a Great Pyrenees thing to some degree. I also had a pyr that had to go from an outside dog to a mostly inside dog for medical reasons in her last couple of years and she adapted as if she was always a house dog.

Abby is a good example of you don’t get the dog you want you get the dog you need. Your more her pack than the animals vs Toby is more drawn to animals. An injury is no good of course but I don’t think Toby would adjust as well as Abby to being inside.

Much as we all love Toby, not sure he would do it. And look at her being so good with medication, or the snacks when you watch TV !

I think Abby Dog is coping really well with being an inside dog for the first time. She's enjoying some of the perks like a snack with Morgan, and a home cooked meal served by Allison,. She has very impressive housebroken skills, and is taking her medicine like a trooper. I don't think she looks depressed. It helps that you guys are being upbeat with her. Let's hope she gets outdoors soon, though, all recovered from her injury. Kitty Lil is looking more worried, though. How long will she have to share the house, after all?

Morgan, time and time again I witness your integrity, patience, and attention to care of your animals. All my hats off to you. We have one senior cat and he needs pills, shots, daily saline injections, and deep brushing. That's just one animal and you have a farm full. Blessings.

Oh yeah he cared for her so much that she ended up with an infection. The moment she was wounded a vet visit should’ve happened and she should’ve been contained in a clean area. Working dog or not this dogs life got twisted due to it’s owner not being responsible enough to care for her properly. Sure he gave her some anti fungal medication and “tried” to keep it clean. Did it work? Obviously not. Would’ve saved money and the dogs happiness had it been treated by an actual Veterinarian when it was noticed. Poor dog.

@polyculturefarms1796 You can say that if you’d like. I’d say having a good vet on hand is farmer 101. I bet if the cattle was hurt he’d call one out before trying to fix it himself. It’s simple an animal gets an injury you get it to the vet and you keep it confined somewhere clean until you get the green light. It’s really not difficult.

@@Terryrock-3307 Yeah, Pablo and Lil were the first livestock barn cats. Then Lil got hit by a car and almost died, Her hip was torn up badly so the Vet said she can't be an outside cat anymore. This happened three years ago or so. Very upsetting to Morgan and Alison.

❤ Abby Girl seems to be a bit conflicted. She behaves wonderfully indoors, but she really wants to be outdoors with the farm animals, especially with Baby Bea. All of a sudden, Lil Barn Cat now shares the house with Abby. That's quite an adjustment for everyone. ❤

Lil Barn cat is very territorial. I mean she must know the barn cats have to come inside when it's below freezing, but Pablo doesn't seem to like being inside, much less sharing territory with Lil and the girls. I guess Lil feels she might be replaced by the other animals inside.

With my first LGD we started him out with the chickens right away and he was always outside. When he had illnesses it was super stressful for him to be in the house, so with the next one we started him out inside. Doing the same with LGD #3 now.

You should get her a doughnut instead of a cone. When our dog was sick she much preferred it because it was soft and she could drink easier 😊 We also had a bowl flipping issue she didn't quite get the hang of it 😅

I think that’s not possible with the wound on her front leg. It looked like she was licking the bottom of the drain with the flashlight cone. Might be what caused her to start limping again.

I’m touched by how much Abby loves you and her life on the farm. When you were driving her to the vet, I saw how she rested her head on your shoulder. The love in her face was so deep. She wanted to stay outside. She misses Toby and the other animals! You think you don’t have children, but you do have them. They just aren’t human. They are all the creatures on the farm.

I am a huge Abby fan. When I saw the title of today's video, I nearly jumped out of my seat. "Finally, I get to see how Abby is doing!" The Abby POV tour was fantastic, and it was so good to see that she is getting better. I pray it continues. When it comes to responsible pet ownership, you and Allison are role models. And Abby has been a good house pet including her being automatically housebroken! She is so blessed to have you; and you are blessed to have her.

I am amazed that she seems to tolerate the "flashlight" (love the stickers) and being inside. I do realize substantial editing may have taken place, but just looking at her body language she does not look stressed. Abby is a smart and well-trained dog. She may sense that she needs rest and 100% trusts her human.

Abby not wanting to leave Toby/outdoor living is definitely a testament to livestock guardian dogs vs house dogs. LGD or outdoor dogs, when treated properly, are just fine being left outdoors and thrive while doing so. But, like this situation, may need extra care. I got my husky a soft cone after he broke the previous plastic one I had for him. Sadly he's got a cancerous mass on his leg that I have to keep continually wrapped and if I'm not around, he has to wear a cone to keep from eating the bandage. The soft one I have for him now has clear plastic parts in it to help with peripheral vision. It has helped keep him from smashing into things more. Sweet Abby-girl; hope her leg gets better soon!

Glad she's on her way back to health. It's terrifying when our pets are sick, because we're responsible for them, and they have no way of telling us what's wrong. To them we can do anything and they look to us to make them feel better; it's heartbreaking when you can't just wave a wand and make it stop hurting.

There was a time, years ago, when if a person asked me if any cat or dog should live outside, I would have said it was cruel and detrimental to their health. However, Morgan, your wonderful treatment of your animals by giving them a job but ensuring their health, welfare, and companionship with you has radically altered my former views and inspired me for how I want to raise barn cats/guardian livestock dogs someday when we buy a piece of property. It's always hard when your good friend isn't well and cannot do the things with you that you love the .most!! Even her bbf Toby was happy to see her! I think they understand as well more then we know when something is wrong. And Morgan you know you've done a great job with your dogs when. I hope and pray that she gets better soon. It's impressive the way she just lays down and sleeps when you leave her alone. I thought a dog trained to the outdoor life would chew and break things in distress at having to be kept indoors. She's amazing! Morgan please buy her chew toys, lots of them. You can buy some bitter spray also with which you can spray the legs of chairs and other wooden furniture and other things she would chew on. Keep her occupied.
