I think the thing that makes it feel voyeuristic is that the pleasure depends on making another person do something against their will (or at least depends on the actions of another person). He equally respected Caroline enough that he wanted HER to be in charge if he died, but also cared about Aperture living on that despite the fact she wouldn't wanna be in charge with him gone he tells them to "make her", which tells me he highly valued her intellect. Though he does seem to lack the awareness that she may choose NOT to be in a machine NOT because shes humble, but because she just may not like the idea of having her brain or whatever moved into it, though I dont think he sees it as a "make her do it because I said so"/in an "evil" way but, more akin to "If Aperture lives on it HAS to be HER in charge and in my place (in place of himself in the machine if he cant get into it before he dies)". If anything, you can blame the scientists more than Cave himself at this point. He's at deaths door already. Either way, seems GLaDOS likes Cave alot, and despite her not knowing about Caroline in her current state, she respects him with what little memories are seemingly coming back.

I feel like the reason GLaDOS isn’t anything like Caroline despite being the same person is due to the computer being designed for Cave. It’s possible her consciousness wasn’t able to make a connection to her new self and she was constantly angry and frustrated. But it shows they began building GLaDOS in the 1980s and her lockdown occurs in 2003. She was under development for nearly 20 years before she killed everyone. There is actually a cut dialog from Caroline telling Cave that she doesn’t want to be put in a computer.

So many times you stepped out of that elevator and went right back the way you did before. And all I could think was, "Please, go the other way, Meg." 🤣 "I was just overthinking things." Yes, that is maybe the most common issue the first time you play through Portal 2. We've all done it. A lot. Also, the puzzle where you have to make a runway, then bounce into the angled portals and make two bounce pads after is one of my absolute favorite puzzles.

I pretty much took this first puzzle as an opportunity to paint the entire map. KEKW I also found the goo parts fairly funny. I think it is just a relatively cartoony element in a fairly realistic environment? The Cave Lemon rant is so great. Yeah I can see the Cave Walt connection I also searched every inch of that elevator shaft, You made a 3000m shaft with about 100 different portable surfaces, and no secrets? It just feels like an area where you'd be missing something. This whole last set of puzzles/sections is VERY vertical. It really makes you use physics and use your mind in a different way. Honestly I think I like evil dictator Wheatley, such a good mix of evil and stupid. I took Wheatley's "tone" to be mostly be like drug addiction/relief, but I certainly hear the creepiness now. The logo changes throughout the game are so cool, but love the Wheatley rebrand. I actually really like both types of tests, it almost feels more rewarding to solve the ones that don't have an immediate clear "end", but I do also feel more comfortable in the actual test chambers.

"She'll argue, she'll say she can't. But you MAKE HER" - this is the scariest line. There were supposed to be another dialogue recorded between Cave and Caroline when they were arguing over all of this. But it was so horrible that left voice actor of Glados in tears and they both together with J.K. Simmons refused to voice this argument.
@Rocket1377
@Rocket1377 Ай бұрын
I think that was a wise decision. Artistically, it's probably better left to the imagination or simply implied that she is seeking revenge for what was done to her. Making a villain too sympathetic is a mistake.
@subject_n

The actors refusing to perform is confirmed to be a false rumor. Really wouldn't reflect well on Valve if it was true imo (besides, J.K. Simmons has previously acted SA scenes) The lines are there, they're not *that* graphic but they state that Caroline was forced to become Glados. Since they're cut, they don't represent the canon lore, just something to speculate about. (writing again since I think my previous comment got removed for linking a source)

I think you hit the nail on the head at the outset of Chapter 8. I definitely see "The Itch" as an addiction metaphor more than a kink thing. Wheatley acts like he's taking a hit after you solve each test. I don't think you're wrong to feel uncomfortable; the voice acting definitely gives *a certain impression,* but I've always interpreted it as an addict taking another hit and chasing the high.
