The fact that the turrets fire whole bullets is basically the reason why you don't immediatly die ^^

Not only that, but they're launched out via a spring mechanism instead of with an explosive propellant.
@SebastianWeinberg7 ай бұрын
@@TrashJack3000 This makes a lot of sense in-universe, since the originally planned lore behind turrets was that they started out as vending machines/dispensers that were a little too… _enthusiastic_ in dispensing their products to customers - and instead of _fixing_ it, Aperture just repurposed them as turrets. While references to this idea were eventually cut during development, the game files of the first _Portal_ game still contain unused voice files for the turrets that say things like "Preparing to dispense product…", etc.

I love the "Perpetual Testing Initiative" because the joke has been made so many times in so many forms. It's like the problem with the "Pan-Dimensional Gargle Blaster", a take off the fictitious Hitchhiker's Guide drink. In theory a drink which shunts all the hangover and negative stuff to an alternative-universe version of yourself is fine... until you realize that if you're the sort of person who would drink it then so would about every other version of yourself and probably at the same time as you do. Similarly, if Cave Johnson has no problem with making other Cave Johnsons pay to research and build products which don't even work properly in their home universes... it explains a lot about what we're seeing in this one.

The first video, "Perpetual Testing Initiative" was added into the game after release, when Valve created the level editor and added the Community Test Chambers into the game. Before that, it was _technically_ possible to create your own maps with the official Source Engine map editor, share them via online modding websites, download other people's maps and manually install them into the game folder - but it required a lot of technical knowledge and skill on your part. Now it was conveniently part of the game in a streamlined form, and they made that video as an in-universe explanation for the existence of community-created test chambers. I believe this is where the Steam Workshop originally came from, which gives game developers a convenient infrastructure for supporting mods and other user-generated content.
