I'll say it 1000 times if I have to: The music is what really makes this series into a masterpiece. And it only gets better from here!

15:15 while Mitty was cursed by the abyss, Nanachi received a blessing, due to reasons. 41:20 also, did you notice that Nat finds Riko's mail baloon in the same exact spot where she found Reg back in episode 1? :)

Oh boy, I cant wait to see what you think of the movie! Dawn of The Deep Soul is fucking awesome. Bondrewd is my favorite character, if you can't tell. Not for edgy "he's actually right" reasons or anythiny, but because he's genuinely fascinating, terrifying, and steals every single scene he's in. And his theme goes fucking HARD

Nanachi didnt do experiments on them, those are just cave raiders she tried to save but didnt make it.

Nanachi took the samples of poisons from those cave raiders who already attacked by toxic monsters, but I think she didn't try to help them, she just did some life extension process to see how deadly the poison is, she is cold for any cave raiders.

@@下田洋介-w4z maybe 🤔 its not explicitly shown but i guess that could be implied by what she says. I always interpreted it as her bringing home an injured cave raider and trying to help them out, but not being able to save them in the end, so she puts them out of their misery.

@@Fyjgtughiohg7ij Nanachi is cold for cave raiders, she even tried to do nothing when Riko got deadly poison, she doesn't have motive for help cave raiders, why she did first-aid for them is just because she wanted to find out the materials of "Mitty killer", that's it.

@@Fyjgtughiohg7ij I will add to what w4z is saying. Nanachi tells us directly that revealing herself is a risk. It’s unlikely she’d provide medical help to these strangers only to let them leave, especially since they now know not only that Nanachi exists and what she is, but also exactly where she’s located. Nanachi’s priority was to end Mitty’s suffering, not to ease the delvers' pain. Rather than ending their suffering right away by killing them, she kept them alive so she could learn from their suffering to try and find a way to help Mitty. Nanachi really only had 3 options with these injured delvers: leave them to die in the Abyss where their deaths would be meaningless and help no one; to save them and expose both herself and Mitty; or to make use of their suffering to work toward a greater goal from her own perspective, trying ending Mitty’s suffering. Being the pragmatic type Nanachi is, one option was far more likely than the others. Through this process, Nanachi was also gaining medical knowledge and perhaps could have saved them, but doing so wasn’t in her best interest. The only reason she could act in such a seemingly cruel way was because it was all for her treasure, Mitty; unfortunately, everyone else mattered less by comparison. Reg and Riko were different, though, because Nanachi saw herself reflected in Reg-a desperate soul willing to do anything, just as she was for Mitty. Nanachi's choice is well reflected in some actions of other characters we come to know. A particular Bon-daddy comes to mind, and this is likely no mistake as a narrative beat. He also aims to 'make use of things' trying to give an otherwise pointless death greater purpose and meaning. A quote comes to mind: "Some of you may die, but its a sacrifice I'm willing to make."

Riko is 12 years old. Altough the show has some questionable scenes, I think the characters don't see the situations the same weird way as we adults 😅
@golden--hand8 күн бұрын
Honestly most of those scenes are rather justifiable because they are innocent. It is only perverted if your eyes take it that way. Reg doesn't even comprehend or understand; and for Riko, its a realization that Reg is more then JUST a robot, and a turning point in how she behaves around him. If you'll notice, Riko has never cared about 'displaying' herself with Reg around. Its not cause she's some exhibitionist, its cause she doesn't view him as a male person, hes been a pet or a tool up to this point, it's like the exact same thing as how people don't care if they get changed in front of their pets. This event in this episode, though awkward, served a purpose and was when Riko started treating Reg more like a person and understanding that being that way makes him uncomfortable, and afterward she makes an effort to be more aware of that. That kind of thing happened like, 5 times or something between Reg and Riko in the first season, but not once during the movie or season 2. The people who get stuck on thinking its disturbing because, ugh kids, and think nothing more of it then that are honestly missing out on a lot of nuanced character development that it can add.

I hate to burst the bubble here, but it absolutely is the writers fetish, even if the characters don’t “see it that way”. I read the manga and at the end of each volume he has to put at least one uncomfortably sexual illustration of the kid characters every time with their nipples out, in compromising situations and stuff. Love the series itself but one of the main reasons I’ll never recommend it to a friend.
@golden--hand3 күн бұрын
@@zade8586 Look, I'm not necessarily defending the writer. But if you are being objective, the way its written is not about sexualization and the scenes DO add to the narrative in the anime; and although harder to defend, in the manga too. Nudity in itself doesn’t automatically mean something is sexual. How we interpret these scenes can often say more about our own assumptions than about the content itself. In the anime, particularly in the first season and the movie, most of these moments can be understood within the story's context if given a chance, and I believe none seem purely designed to be exploitative and if anything are designed to make you uncomfortable on purpose. Or to make you uncomfortable when you honestly shouldn't be. Honestly, I believe a lot of the 'worst' parts seen in the anime are literally bait meant to make you think its worse; but have a benign explanation. And I honestly think there is a thematic reason for it. But that would be getting into some of my theories on the deeper themes the series aims to center on and the overall messages of the series. More importantly, how the characters in the story respond to or experience these moments matters a great deal. That depiction and the intent behind it are crucial. Sure, maybe there are traces of the writer’s personal influences that seep through, but the real question is whether the scenes themselves add meaning or depth to the story. Context is everything. If a scene serves a narrative or thematic purpose, that has to be considered alongside any discomfort it might provoke.
@zade85863 күн бұрын
@@golden--hand I don’t necessarily disagree, but when it’s blatantly obvious that these depictions of young children are genuinely a fetish of the artist, it’s hard to then say that all of the scenes with those depictions are innocent EVEN IF they aren’t overtly sexual situations. Like do you see what I’m getting at? Since we know the author likes that shit it puts a bit of a sinister shadow behind all of the scenes and their “purpose”. Do some of the scenes add characterization? Yes. Could you have achieved the same characterization in a different scene without it having it be about his dick? Also yes. I don’t think it’s mutually exclusive but in my opinion it’s just important information when considering the intent behind the scenes. I find it hard to argue that they aren’t inserts of his fetish to a significant degree, regardless of if he’s reworked them in a way to have some sort plot relevance. Their existence is more than suspect.
@golden--hand3 күн бұрын
@@zade8586 I mean, I think we could debate this back and forth. But, even with your perspective still in mind, because of the core messages this series is about, it's still relevant even so. Its about human nature and the human condition, good and bad; this can extend to the author who actually is writing and illustrating it. The interpretations of people viewing it. Its ALL a matter of context and perspective; the intents and interpretations all all valid. None of us know what the 'correct' way to live is and morals and laws are all a human construct based on our poor attempts to collectively decide what is right or wrong in a universe that doesn't care. Its all still relevant. This writer is just at least honest about it. Where as other shows apply their fetishes for no reason, or pretend they are something they aren't. This one is just realistic and finds a way to blend these themes into their overall message in a way that IS meaningful. I'd still be selective who I share the experience of this show with, sure. But I'd still be willing to debate and justify the weirder scenes for the value they add over other anime that is often not justifiable at all. I understand what you are trying to say, and I’m not even trying to argue against it. But some people (not necessarily you here) sometimes amplify this issue, not necessarily to engage with the series’ broader themes, but to reduce it to seemingly try to make it out as something purely objectionable or unworthy of appreciation. As if to assume that enjoying the show, or trying to justify it, or not being overtly put off by its more controversial scenes, means implicitly endorsing any problematic elements or aligning with the creator’s personal interests. Again, many of which I don't even think should technically be controversial in the first place. I really think that approach oversimplifies what’s happening. The series isn’t just about shock value; there’s often more going on beneath the surface. The creator seems aware of how people might react to certain scenes and, at times, even uses that awareness to play with expectations or satirize the very elements being criticized. These moments can add layers of meaning and make us question our assumptions about the work, or even about human nature itself. So while I agree that the content can be divisive, it has genuine merit more often then not. It’s the kind of series that invites different interpretations and can lead to valuable discussions about what art should or shouldn’t do. Even if we don’t see eye to eye on everything, I think we can at least agree it provokes thought and conversation.

Counter argument. Regardless of who the writer is or what they think; arguably some of the 'awkward' moments are some of my favorites even if they make me uncomfortable. I really appreciate this series ability to display raw, realistic, takes on humanity; considering its kind of the whole point of the series at its core. Things other media shies away from this show confronts and I'd happily argue 90% of it is justifiable and fits the story and narrative, like, its actually relevant to plot points or character development or is otherwise used to show humanity's reflection in a realistic light; for good or bad. Where as other anime will do 'fan-service' for literally no justifiable reason at all, in this series it usually adds 'something' much more often then it does not.
