That rock garden behind the old courthouse is a memorial for the 2002 Mitchell Jail Fire. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitchell_jail_fire

2003 If you refer back to Chicago Times or New York Times or Orlando times it is all up and down the East Coast when it happened but it was May 3rd 2003

I am local you can take my word for this or you can not.... or you can come see it and I can point it out either way it's sad that you can't even get past without trespassing the intersection you mentioned Helens and the rock garden!! Was the previously where the jail was located untill 2003 May the 3rd Google it if you want to It discuss me. And very disrespectful for the familys that anywhere from The New York Times did the Orlando times can't get the date straight it was May 3rd 2003 neither will anyone else local forget that night. It was just 8-good old boys doing weekends and as far as I know I know for a fact that there was no hardened criminals! Among the eight that passed away that night..... they say due to a faulty sprinkler system facts it has not passed inspection in yours before 2003 not even up-to-date fire extinguishers side note but they ride around now in brand new vehicles and you were in the capitol city sadly and I'm glad we don't currently, and I think that we can never have a jail due to insurance reasons and I'm not sure about that so to make you aware. Once again this is not for sure on my end maybe not having another jail is not a fact that's what I've heard how can you even put a value on one person's life+ to add in the fact that you can I put a value on anyone's life a person. I have new all my life.. his uncle was one of the eight victims because the jail was set on fire I can't prove that but it is pretty obvious but his uncle's mother got Alfred 28,000 for her son... his son Edmond that passed away his son found out about this and was educated he got like a six figure amount but some of the other victims families I know as well... and there was a couple of them got offered I know one 600,000 and 750,000 turn on the 28,000 policy they was going to actually bury him as well! Pay for the funeral and give them the rest Everything's changed management positions except for a couple but if you look up the job of a sheriff oh yeah by the way you miss Bowman High School middle school now but my dad was the last graduating class. before the old Mitchell High School was built. If you want tourism and enjoy Galleries and stuff it's became a retirement town and the county can ride around in a brand new truck that cost $40,000..... not to mention that they just recently bought a $4 million investment..... was a Hosiery Mill that made pantyhose! But they're not going to put a jail in there they're holding cell consists of what's at the courthouse.... the old one is haunted and it always was before the jail fire LOL but haven't been in there in many years. And those brown trees are bushes in front of the courthouse don't know how many times they've reset those.... that's where the eight men laid and they can't even recognize that... the county can't even have a memorial for that but can pay upwards of how much ever they want because they all Drive new trucks cars SUVs and speaking of looking at the meaning before the sheriff is he runs the jail and make sure everything's in line and gives the deputys orders----- and 10s to the inmates wait a minute what inmates we don't have a jail😢 To house inmates so therefore we shouldn't need a sheriff..
