This is a good video of our town. My wife works for the town. That is her blue Dodge Charger you can see just to the left of the Municipal Building, starting at 8:06 in the video.

I think the first church you showed was (one of) the first First Baptist Church buildings. I don’t think they own it anymore, it used to be a place where people would sell produce and rejected groceries. The bottle company now has working antique vending machines that you can buy soda from with quarters! Really cool addition and it’s pretty popular around here. I agree that we need more restaurants in town I think they would be successful especially if they’re good😁 great video, it’s really cool to hear from people that don’t live here🥰

Thanks for this video! I grew up around this part of Caldwell County and it's nice to see these towns preserved for the most part. I hate what they did with the library in Granite, it used to be in the main white building with the window displays and planter boxes to the right, but they closed that branch down and opened up a children's library in the old Flick Video down the street. It's nice to see somebody who cares about these small towns. We're losing a lot of our local history and community identity here in Appalachia.

You’re welcome. I love our historic town centers. They represent who we are as citizens. And too often these days we let them fall into disarray, choosing the big chain and franchises over our local independent business owners. Granite is a beautiful town. Thanks for watching and sharing your local knowledge 👍

Next to the drug store is Huffy’s sandwiches and Ice cream. And just out of town center is Granite Falls Brewing Company. They also serve sandwiches. Most restaurants were near Hickory Blvd (321) It would be nice if they could get more in the town center.

I was reminiscing as you were doing your tour of downtown Granite Falls. I grew up there until my family moved when I was 10. My grandmother still lives there, so I have been back through the years, but it's been 20 years now since my last visit. Some of the businesses are new, but the drug store, furniture store, and of course the mill have been there a long time. My grandfather worked at Shuford Mills, and my grandmother was a 5th grade teacher at Granite Falls Elementary. My great grandfather was principal of the school for many years, and my great grandmother was an English teacher at the high school. The old high school is across the street from the drug store. It was a small town when I grew up in the 80s. Its sad now that people want get to experience that way of life again.

Granite Falls needs to greatly improve from the roads to getting more businesses here. All the old ugly buildings are nothing but an eyesore.

I think the bypasses hurt a lot of small towns. Thanks for posting.
