I was born in Smithfield. I miss that simple life. My brother still lives in Benson. I would love to move back. I miss the small towns. I live in AZ now. I really miss the change of seasons. I agree with you about the internet and kids. What happened to riding bikes and playing outside? Such a shame. Thank you for the tour. You are very personable.

Thank you for the compliment. And I must admit, I don’t think it’s healthy for kids to stay inside as much as they do these days.

@@TimothyFrench I totally agree with you. I would move back to Smithfield or Benson if I had the circumstances. You did a great job with the video! I love your accent!

Every time I hear the name Smithfield, I immediately think of a ham, bacon, or sausage. Smithfield, NC is the county seat of Johnston County, NC. It was so good to see those parents being parents and spending quality time with their children. Maybe seeing that will inspire those "parents" who have opted to let computers and the ills of the world raise their kids, change their destructive "parenting" ways.

I thought the same. Now I’m craving ham.

Smithfield reminds me of the KKK sign they had up until the late 70’s but I guess being a local and knowing the history is a little different or how Greenville used to be called the blackest land with the whitest people but don’t forget to attend church on Sunday. Ahh yes the good ol south.

Howell Theatre was my grandfathers theatre, probably the reason I dont like the theatre today. Too many times watching a movie while he worked in the summer. Glad its still around

Interestingly, I learnt about Smithfield after reading The Slave Narrative of Cornelia Andrews, who was owned by a Doctor McKay Vaden. I wonder if that museum you mentioned covers the town's total history?
@TimothyFrench Жыл бұрын
I would hope so. There is so much to learn in our towns and a lot of them have history museums. Sadly most people never venture inside. That’s why I love to see photos and markers place outside for all to see. Thanks for watching.

I went on a ghost tour in Smithfield around 2019. It was basically a historical tour around the old cemetery on Halloween. Very educational. I enjoyed it but kids probably got bored. They shared a lot of info about enslaved history and I learned Smithfield has one of the oldest black elementary school houses in the south. I drove by it and was sad that there was no plaque outside. I hope they can find money to restore it.
