Your concerns are justified but the uncertainty is in part because the direct was bumped up by a month so should have come out later when I think more of the final plans will be agreed or closer to agreement. I think much of what has been said is also corporate speak, not a lie but not the exact truth either. I think they fully intent to remake all three games and have a publisher in final talks. I also think that footage is either a switch 2 or a more powerful console version than the current switch. It's going to be ok, Sky is too loved and too important to Falcom they won't let us down.

I'm probably not alone on that one. Platform wise, I am PC guy, I've played every single one on my steam deck and I hope they keep coming. I would just note that even if they said nothing, I do not belive for a second they did not build this game for switch 2, even if they release it for the old one. They should have been more prepared before announcing it I think, but maybe they run out of time and had aready agreed to this date with nintendo. I kinda do the same but I think casting stability is still even important when you play like that. Foe exemple, whenever a character pops up off screen with only a text like "Young man : Hello" (which Falcom loves to do), it's not the same if you have no clue who's speaking or if you recognize the voice of a character you love or hate from the previous games.

@jclosed2516Ай бұрын
Well - First of all, I understand the concern about the hardware not being up to the task. Let's face it. It's old hardware. However, the game being an in-house development will probably beneficial. I think chances that the game runs fine (enough) will be better than with the previous outsourced development. I think the main reason the localizer is not chosen yet, has something to do with the possibility of using the original translation. That would make the time needed for a localization considerably less. However, chances are that Falcom is still negotiating about that, and they are not (yet) at the point that they can comment on that. One thing to consider is that when Falcom does the Western localization's themselves, the possibility is high that both the Japanes and Western versions will be released at the same time. The voice acting can be a source of concern. However - Nothing keeps Falcom back from hiring the same voice actors as the other Trails series. They even can use local studio's and send a supervisor/voice director to keep things "on the rails". Sure - That's expensive, but do not forget that Japanese voice actors are not really cheap either (the good ones at least). I don't own a Switch, so I would love to see this game released on the PC. It would be a terrible shame if the game would be Switch exclusive. That is one of my personal biggest concern. If they let Durante work on that port, I am sure it will be good. Lastly - Something completely non-related to the Trails series. In that same presentation that showed the Trails In The Sky clip, there was also a announcement of a new release in a series I simply love to play. I am talking about the Atelier series, and they announced a new game in this series, named Atelier Yumia. This is a real "traditional" game, and nothing like that gacha garbage that was released lately. I really looking forward to this game.

I'm sure it'll come out on PS and PC same day or later down the road. What I'm REALLY worried about is if this game will get an English Dub or not. I always wanted a remake of the older Trails games so it gives the games a chance of having a full English Dub like the Cold Steel and Daybreak games. Always wanted to hear the VA's voice their character's origin games and with this Sky remake I might get that chance which for me is more hype than even the visuals and QoL lol I felt the same way as you with Tokyo Xanadu. I really liked the game but finding out it wasn't getting a Dub bummed me out so much I depressed for a while cause it's a game that would've stood side by side with Trails as my favorite Falcom game. Here's hoping the new Tokyo Xanadu game Falcom is working on will have an ENglish Dub when it comes out here to the West. I'm crossing my fingers that that game and the Sky remake games get an English Dub for the best possible experience. Either way, we have to wait for more info regardless so it's better to just keep our eyes peeled. Anyway we have Trails Through Daybreak II to look forward to early next year so that's hype! ^_^

Hello, i think there is another alternative besides XSEED or NISA, and the switch exclusivity could be the reason of it. In the best "timeline", Nintendo could be backing up Falcom. While NISA did a very good job on the latest releases, having the support of Nintendo could be a game changer for Falcom. First, is the visibility that Falcom games lack, a lot. I'm a long time player but never heard about their games until many years after the release of Ys VIII. Also NISA translations are great, but they lack other languages like French or Spanish. I'm not even talking about dubs, just having other languages for subtitles could be enough for a lot of players. As a french player, i saw countless times people saying : "game is not in french, not buying it". Plus, the game looks too good to be working on Switch, so maybe what we saw could be footage for the "Switch 2". Having Sky 1st as a lineup title for the "Switch 2" could be an absolute banger. Nintendo had already done something like that for other games like Octopath Traveler that had a temporary exclusivity for the Switch. I may be dreaming, but doing this could be a turning point for Falcom with the Sky 1st remake, like Atlus had with Persona 5.

My biggest concern is them adding systems that don't need to be in the game, like the bond or romance systems that plague the majority of the games. I hate gimmicks that make me feel like I need to play a 60-100 hour game multiple times like I don't have a life and heck playing RPG's multiple times is always boring without like 5 to 10 years in between playthroughs. I'm super excited and super hopeful about this game (and worried that I'll be disappointed). But for different reasons. 1. I agree with the voice acting and I would absolutely prefer the same voice actors for consistency. But a big one for me is how the voice acting and art portray the story. Trails games have always been somewhat limited in the way characters could artistically express themselves. 2D Trails brought the characters to life, so I am concerned that the focus of this is more on the art and less on the writing and Estelle's story. Which would drastically impact the player's experience. I liked the jump to 3D in Cold Steel, but that definitely made the characters feel different. Case in point, Olivier in Trails in the Sky versus Olivier in Trails of Cold Steel. Olivier in ToCS was notably less fun. 2. I'm worried that I don't have more information. How modernized is this Trails game going to be? Is it a faithful remake (like the orbments, items, re-readable chests)? Frankly I prefer the modern combat of Trails games, but I love the Sky trilogy enough to where it isn't a dealbreaker. That said, it looks as though this game has a few ideas of its own. Of course I want to support the game, but I love the Trails series as a whole. If this is a significantly different game with subpar writing to the original, I'm not sure I would care to buy it on switch. And, as others have posted--it would be a crime against nature to only have the 1st chapter of Trails. 3. I loved the pacing of the Sky trilogy. It had plenty of flaws, sure, but it's easily the best Trails games in my book (gameplay was improved in future entries, but the writing wasn't as good imo). 20 ish hours to beat a good game is *awesome*. Going 3D means this game may take longer in a way that isn't very engaging. Again, my main concern is that the game loses some of its magic to make the graphics better. In terms of the video--I'm not as worried about fps drops and switch hardware. This game looks nice, but it doesn't look as nice as Cold Steel imo, in part probably because it's being made for the Switch ^.^ I agree that I prefer playing it on different hardware. The game intends for players to collect a bunch of different stuff--a trophies system on the Playstation or Steam really make the collections feel all the more rewarding. Still though, I love the Sky trilogy to death and if the switch is what makes that a reality so be it. The publisher worry kind of goes over my head. The writing is important, but the way I see it, it's easier to just copy what's already there than to make up crappy writing. If they cut stuff from the game I'll be pretty mad... I want more for sure. I don't have my expectations that high, but if this game delivers, I'll be thrilled.

@HalfpennyTerwilligerАй бұрын
I've decided to play the originals first (I'ml still buy and play this one if it's good) My reason number one is that I don't want to wait for them to remake all three games. My reason number two is I'd like to experience the gameplay evolution of the series and I'd love to see the pre Crossbell combat for example.
@chuckhaynes9166Ай бұрын
I don't really care. I already played it, loved it and I may eventually pick up and play the remake, it's not really that important to me other than maybe supporting falcom. I understand there are people out there that just can't play an old game, but are all in on trails and anxiously await something they can actually play. I think that's ridiculous, but everyone has their tiks and many gamers suffer from that particular one. I hope the game scratches that itch. I don't think making something "new" necessarily makes a better game, and some of the attributes of older games are considered "outdated" for the dumbest reasons. It wasn't long ago that game devs were saying that isometric turn based games are outdated and undesireable...then Baldurs Gate 3 told them to shut up. I'm fond of FC's old style and complex magic system. I also like it's art that even they seemed dissatisfied with. I dont really like what Joshua and Estelle look like now, but I tolerate it. Simpler wasn't bad, and as red blooded as I am, it was nice that at least one female character in trails wasn't obsessed with her own body. That stuff I "worry" about...as in I'll worry by laughing about it.

If they dropped the OG trilogy on modern consoles WITH a physical release? It'd be a day 1 purchase. But i still think the game (gameplay wise) looks a bit dated. I love the visuals of the original series, but they dont want console players to play the games apparently. Thats the only reason i don't play the originals. I will say that i think the idea of remaking the old games in the daybreak engine? Thats just as good of an alternative in my personal opinion
@chuckhaynes9166Ай бұрын
@codysvlogdays yeah, I dont mean to come off as overbearing. I think any game can be updated or have a quality of life upgrade. In fact I love Persona 3 reload, and think it's a very high quality game...I really enjoyed it. But I do think something was lost, and what a new player that couldn't play the originals, loses...can't be regained. It's not the most important thing in the world. For me personally, I would like someone to experience FC the way I did, and that's the motivation to push people to go at it in order and with the originals, but I understand that a lot of people simply can't do it. (Edit, hit send before finished) the console thing being a prime reason. It is hard to justify the cost of developing for a top console without a full remake, but it does leave people out in the cold. But that's why I support this, even though I won't get anything out of it personally
@Stargazing_night_skyАй бұрын
@chuckhaynes9166 I would absolutely love to experience the original games if I could because I can see how the games evolved. I do see what you mean about something being lost though, but if this is the only way I can experience the original game? I don't mind playing it as a remake personally. Best of both worlds is we get remakes of the original 3 games AND the original 3 games ported as well but I don't see that happening. Still though, if the remake makes enough money and they remake the original trilogy, it's possible to get remakes of zero and azure which I would really like. So I am fine with the remake route they are taking. Again though, I 100% understand where you're coming from

I also have trepidations, but some of them for different reasons than yours. For the publisher, I don't really care who it is as long as they localize it in the style of Xseed. I might be in the minority here, but I would much rather localizers take some liberties to give the game more character than to do a more faithful translation like NISA does. They don't need to go full Working Designs, but I thought Xseed did a better job with the localizations than NISA. I'm also concerned about the possibility of the game being a Switch exclusive because for me, Trails is a PC series, but I'll buy it and play it on Switch if that's the case. Hopefully it gets a physical release.
@Erpy80Ай бұрын
I'm not sure if it's even going to be re-localized. It appears that the game pretty much follows the original script, which means a localization is already done and re-inventing the wheel (while also adding at least another year to the western release cycle and drawing inevitable comparisons to XSeed's script) would feel like a waste of time and money.
@jmporkbobАй бұрын
@@Erpy80 We know they're at least adding some allusions to future games, so at the very least there will be new text to localize. Will most of the main script be changed? Surely not. Will some of the main script be changed? Highly likely. Will NPC dialogue be changed? Almost certainly. And if some of the track titles on spotify are anything to go by, Falcom cannot and must not try to translate them in-house.

The things I worrie about are both dependent on the publisher. It is the game being dubbed or not. And just as important. I want a good pc port. Ph3 has made the trails games some of the best pc games I have ever seen. But if falcom self publishes or any one else then nisai doubt Ph3 will hendel the port. Which I would find awful.
@jmporkbobАй бұрын
Yeah, PH3 not working on the PC version is my biggest worry of all. There is at least one avenue for hope here though. The Switch versions of Zero/Azure made by PH3 were used by Falcom for the Japanese Switch versions, and also the Japanese PC versions of Daybreak, Ys X, and Daybreak 2 have flipped from being given to Clouded Leopard to being given to NISA/PH3. This at least suggests that there is a bit more trust between Falcom and PH3 than may appear to be on the surface. Also in an interview from around June, Durante said he is working on a PS4 port that he couldn't speak on details of. It's certainly a big stretch at this point so I wouldn't bank on this yet-but if Falcom hired PH3 to port Sky 1st to PS4 and PC alongside the initial release or shortly after, but the announcement is set to be at a later time, then that would truly be a best case scenario. There's nothing really stopping Falcom from contracting Durante themselves if they have been impressed by their work (as they should be).

Im ngl, im not worried. Sky saga was my least favorite, although I did like SC more than FC and the 3rd i youtubed the story cuz it wasn't on console. Zero/AO are superior, cold steel is great. Its just sky saga is very much generic anime without the depth of the crossbell cast, or the benefit of the worldbuilding the cold steel games got from 5 games. That I thought they were ok. But didn't like the combat either. Plot twist i'll admit at the end of FC was unexpected tho. Now im SAYING that, because i feel they can add a crap ton of stuff in a remake, including sliding in some things about the erebonia/calvard politics we got in later games. Oh and exception to how I feel about sky series is Kevin, he deserved his own game. While I liked Estelle and Joshua, Kevin was better than both as a character. He's basically vash the stampede, but more hardened.

Every game is on PC. The 1st ever release was just for PC. It's more a PC series than a playstation series :) I believe this game is running on Switch 2 not Switch 1. There is 0% chance 2nd chapter will not be made. They've already created all the Liberl locations/characters. 2nd chapter uses 90% or more of the assets from FC. So it would be crazy wasteful to not put out 2nd chapter when it's basically already made. It would make no financial sense. Either way this will sell very well.

My fear is more so that Nintendo may have shared tech resources to Falcom to make this game that is why they have an exclusivity deal for it. So if that is true we won't be seeing other releases for consoles anytime soon or in the worst case scenario it would stay stuck on the switch.
@aprile1710Ай бұрын
@@Snzn_7 Not gonna happen
@Snzn_7Ай бұрын
@@aprile1710 it's less likely. But again it depends on the nature of why it was revealed on Nintendo in the first place and why it is only confirmed for Switch at the moment. There is a valid concern for exclusivity since it is possible that Nintendo might handle or help on localizing the remake plus I feel like Nintendo shared their tech to make the remake look the way it is and how the game seems "specifically" made for the switch. Also I did expect the Evo versions to release on PC even if it's only in Japan but then again those were lock away with the Vita.
@aprile1710Ай бұрын
@@Snzn_7 There's nothing specific to the switch or their "tech" in this game. You are just imagining things. In fact I believe the Japanese trailer actually says "Windows" at the bottom. I believe this was running on Switch 2-like hardware or a PC which is why it looks better than Switch games usually do. That said Falcom games have never been demanding to begin with. They are not going to take the entry point to their biggest franchise and lock it to a Nintendo platform. That would be counter productive. And if Nintendo were involved the game would have gotten a lot more attention in the Direct than it did. It was almost an after thought. Falcom does not do exclusives.
@Snzn_7Ай бұрын
@@aprile1710 I mean the trailer did show the hud being mapped with switch buttons, if it was on windows, then it probably should have been mapped with keyboard buttons. So its more so running on a switch 2 hardware. I am puting out the idea of Nintendo helping with the tech is more so due to the difference of shading style and how different they did plant foliage in the game which looks like more like how the TotK environmental shading and foliage look like. Yes this could be done by falcom alone, but usually whenever they use a new style with their own tech, they usually test run it and integrate a portion of it in a game before "fully transitioning" on utilizing it, like how they did in Reverie when they are making the new engine for Daybreak and ys x:Nordics. SO if the new tokyo xanadu is done with the same style as the sky remake then that would mean, falcom did all the tech for the remake. But if it looks more like the visuals for Daybreak, Kai or Nordics then its highly possible Nintendo helped in making the remake.

I am incredibly psyched for Sky but honestly I don't get the worry about the English dub. For me a lot of times I much prefer subs. Often with anime I watch the sub and it is so much better (actually the fan subs tend to be better than the pro subs) as they tend to tell the story truer to the way they were written. I find that often dubs 'soften' the story and make it less dark which takes away impact. When they try to english-ize a story you often lose what makes it special. When a story is written steeped in a culture I want that part kept as when you try to english or americanize you dilute and change it. A good example can be found in Naruto - the dub absolutely destroys it and it's like a whole different story with the original subs.

Not fond of "Switch Exclusive". I game on PC/Steam. ALL of Trails is available there, and the series started there. I figured that the reason we found out about Sky 1st being on Switch first was because this was a Nintendo Direct, and announcements for other platforms would follow later on. So far none have. And you said that Falcom confirmed Switch Exclusive? (the "at least for now" sounded like personal commentary and not part of the Falcom confirmation). This would be stupid. If the player base for the franchise is primarily on PS and PC, launching exclusive on Switch is a poor choice.
@Terranigma23Ай бұрын
I mean, Sky 1 Remake it's their last "chance" for trying to expand massively their player base. A lot of people want to play Trails, but don't want because of the "outdated" art style of Sky and being available only on PC (even if nearly all PC can launch this game ahah) Some drama happen in Japan because of the new huge price of the PS5. Nintendo dominate Japan now (and will continue with the Switch 2) with 145 million of user (around the world) is a lot. The Sky 1 Remake is more for trying to expand their player base, but for sure also for OG Falcom fan. I don't think it will be a Switch exclusivity. My opinion of NIS is a little more mixed. There was an issue with the PS4 digital deluxe version that prevented it from working the first long weekend it came out. I used a data file from the fan translation to fix it days before a patch came out.

My friend, just calm down and think. Don't wonder why it was only in a sizzle real. Question why the need for the sizzle real. Simple answer: There was no english trailer ready yet. The direct was at the end of August and a bit abrupt for Kondo, so they had no localized stuff ready yet. Probably because they just started doing the localization. Do not worry your head so much about it. We will hear more soon. Also, regarding the game being a switch exclusive, it may be a timed launch exclusive for the Switch 2. Because everyone said that the game runs too good to be on Switch. Which obviously makes way more sense if it is a launch title for the new console. I am seriously questioning why you are all so worried about stuff that can be easily explained. Obviously, I could still be wrong, but these guesses do make sense. Regarding who does the localization though, we will just have to wait. I think maybe XSeed can just do it again, but that is just speculation. I do not think worrying will do us any favors. If TitS the 1st is a Switch exclusive, Falcom can go fuck themselves. They're my favorite dev, btw. I just hate console exclusivity on principle. Also, while NISA may put out a nice collector's edition, if you understand Japanese at all, or maybe just pay attention to social media in the right spaces, you would know their localizations are terrible. If we could find a happy medium of a company that would put out a comparable CE at the same price point, but that doesn't monkey around with the translations by putting in Reddit humor and/or completely changing the mood or meaning of every few lines, that would be the best case scenario. I can't tell you how annoyed I was reading through their BS in Daybreak, which doesn't have much in the way of voiced lines, and seeing so much dubious bullshit, but having no JP voiced line to listen to so I could have the actual experience, and know what was actually said. But that's what being too lazy to learn how to read kanji so you can import gets you, I guess. X-Seed pretty much does the same thing with their localizations now too, so whatever happens on that front, we still lose. At least a little.

@@JustTheGems Yes, that's exactly what I'm interested in too. NISA has a terrible history of taking massive liberties with their translations. The number of times, per game, that I will be listening to the JP voice actor saying one thing, and glance down at the subtitles to see something completely different is inexcusable. Not just a little change here or a tweaked word there, but the entire tone and point of a line butchered, usually for the sake of some juvenile Reddit humor that has no point in being there (at best) or some activist horseshit that the ACTUAL CREATORS do not believe in. Also, do not try to argue what I am looking for is transliteration. That's a terrible strawman, and utterly disingenuous.
