since switching to the light phone II, I have been very curious about the remarkable. My macbook is way too harsh and the distractions are too abundant. I love the idea of simplifying my tech, so looks like the remarkable 2 might be for me. Thanks for your review.

Nice video. If you write like you talk, your novel is going to be great! Balanced, calm and nuanced 👍🏼

I love using the ReMarkable 2 type folio for weekly writing projects ... 4,000 words. But I would be eager to see your video progress on transferring the text to another layout program ... Word ... Scrivener, etc.

Awesome to hear. The RM2 is great. The transferring text is definitely in the works. Hope you'll tune in 😃

Although I do not (yet!) have a remarkable or e-ink tablet, I have always loved physical thesaurus' and dictionaries. I think it's similar to my love of notebooks - having the tactile experience of turning the pages and searching the screen, I just love it! I also get a feeling of community in a way I don't quite find with using an online thesaurus for example - it feels like I'm really reading words someone has chosen to include, whereas there's a sort of disconnect for me when looking on the internet. There isn't much that brings me more joy than a good pocket dictionary!

Thank you for the video!!! How’s the book going?! I've discovered that, there will be nothing like a Lap or desktop. The rM2 or the paper Pro is fantastic for brainstorming, outlining, and maybe (MAYBE) pantsing yourself through a rough draft, but sooner or later during the process, you'll find yourself going back to a writing software. The Boox devices can have a Word or Google Doc (not a Scrivener or Plottr) but if you are already using something like that, it'll be much better to do so on a proper device like a laptop or desktop. In my opinion, the rM2 and Paper Pro are notebook or paper replacements and we should not make the mistake of thinking that it should do more than that. Cheers from 🇲🇽 !!!!

Definitely lots of pantsing with the RM2 and RMPP. The digital syncing integration works well enough for laptop editing after bringing it into my Pages app. The proverbial 'STOP' when importing works well for my needs. With my book (which is on chapter 38!) it helps me bring in the meat of the writing and less of the filler fluff. The RM2 is for writing/typing, margin edit, annotations and highlights. All of the real structures are developed after the import. I have looked at other devices, but there might just be too much of an ecosystem dichotomy that removes the effective pantsing.

I’m looking at the new Remarkable Pro, because I love the color option, but I am not sure if I can justify the price
@Yekie

The price is definitely a slowing factor in my decision to purchase. I'll be waiting and watching for important software updates. There could be more features developed that might justify the added color bonus.

Seems like the lack of autocorrect would be a benefit. I know some people like writing on typewriters for that reason. Also supposedly John Steinbeck wrote his novels in pencil. Apparently writing by hand is even better for some kind of cognitive reasons.

Love a good typewriter. People are definitely on both sides of the fence in regards to autocorrect. I've heard both sides, and can relate to both, but I find it is situational. How do you feel that you want to write? How does it feel to not want to write? Why not just write for the sake of writing and figure it all out later? I find myself in the last camp mostly. Everything will fall into place eventually. Thanks for sharing 😁

You can turn down the brightness of a screen until it looks unlit but still bright enough to read
@Yekie

This is a good tip! It doesn't translate across all devices unfortunately. Different panels have different nits, and technology OLED/LCD/ETC which for me causes eye strain over time. I really enjoy the E-ink devices for the lack of actual illumination (certain devices like the RM2 don't even have a brightness setting), and low refresh rates.

I have a Remarkable 2 and I thought by now I would have the keyboard/case as well. But watching other people type on it, I've decided it's not for me. I usually type with a keyboard on my lap (something this can't do) and I need to elevate the back of the keyboard when typing on a desk. This keyboard sitting flat on the table would ruin my wrists and forearms. Do you experience any of that? Good luck with your novel!

Totally understandable. My husband has had similar issues over the years with various tablets w/accompanying cases, docks, etc. I have been fortunate enough not to experience the same. He's even exclaimed "How can you sit like that?" I'm not sure "how", but I have always moved/adjusted frequently when sitting. The RM2 is fine for me, even when sitting crosslegged on the couch. Thank you for the support!

Great and important video! With this "infinite" pages update 2 years ago I don't see how its possible to write a whole book unless you make every chapter a new Notebook and still then its amazingly cumbersome to back reference something. We need actual pages and Remarkable Team were numbskulls for removing it and giving no alternatives.
@Yekie

You are spot on, every chapter is a new notebook! Currently on chapter #32. I have found my rhythm in the chaos that is the simplistic layout of features on the Remarkable 2. In my personal experience, it has been surprisingly easy so far. The UI is so simplistic; that it actually changed the way that I write. Not good, not bad, just different. How refreshing it has been to approach writing that is simply, different. Unattached to any style, preconceived rules, margins, space, etc. Yet, it is still just my writing, musings, mind maps, creative and uncreative expressions. My emotions filtered into something that can make me, you, or anyone possibly feel, something. On a side note, yes it could use some improvements, but wow! What a time to be alive, how lucky we are to have access to these tools, and tech. Thanks for checking in 😊

Absolutely, it's amazing that we get choices. The e-ink community is very knowledgeable, and helpful in this aspect. Maybe I'll do a video about that next. Thank you! 😄

It’s is definitely an investment. I’ve been a user since 2020 and all though it cost more than now, I don’t regret the investment and the use of my rM2 and e-ink all together. Mercari and eBay share great places to find excellent priced pre-loved devices.
