Its funny that you do better on a moderate power. I been throwing all chatters and jigs on a med heavy extra fast. Ive tried multiple different style rods but have just dedicated that setup for them only. I can feel the structure and can tell that from a bite and the reel is an 8.1:1 and i got braid. Havent had many come off yet. Havent had thr combo long but its definitely great for these baits

Excellent points! I’m a big chatterbait guy and I throw them all year .The only suggestion I have for bladed jigs is to try a MH glass composite rod. I found this to be the perfect balance of backbone and flex at the tip.

Is the chatterbait just a new age replacement for the old style buzzbait or are they supposed to be completely different lures ?

are chatterbaits good where there is a lot of timber like sunken trees?

Great video. The chatterbait has been super consistent for me. I've found the Jack Hammer to be worth the extra money as the blade will get up and spinning much faster than the cheaper versions. Because of this, you can fish a Jack Hammer slower because of the blade resistance which makes the difference when the bass are picky. It also seems like it has a tighter thump than the others that the bass can't resist.

I got bit for the first time last night on a CB after fishing with one for about 6 hours over the spring. Still haven't brought one in yet but I think I'm close. I'm gonna try coloring the blade next time I go out. Nice video.

Thanks for the videos! Just started fishing a month ago, caught a fish soo far on everything but a chatter bait ! I try everything just nothing has worked yet, I caught my PB Monday on a 5” 297 senko , bass was 4lbs 8oz not bad for a guy who’s only been fishing like 40 days now

What you were saying about the chatterbait about ripping once you feel vegetation then you get eaten right after. that’s what I do with the spinner bait also and have same results! Very fascinating!

I bought my first Chatterbait 5 years ago in 2019 I had never heard of a Chatterbait at that point saw a whole row of them at my local Cabelas and thought they looked like a bait that could work in my lakes that vegitation is 90% of the structure that holds fish Bought a few in 3/8 and 1/2oz in colors I knew worked with spinnerbaits Never thought at that point to use a trailer Didn't actually use them much if at all in 2019, 20, 21. Then I decided to give them a good try in 2022. Even bought a dedicated 7'3" baitcasting setup made specifically for Chatterbaits spooled it with 12lb Yo-Zuri co-polymer did OK with Chatterbaits but just couldn't put down my confidence baits to really give them an honest try then starting in March of 2023 started fishing with them on purpose a lot and enjoyed a lot of success but not anything that rocked my world Until I watched a Matt Stefan video in February of 2024 on how to best fish a Chatterbait what colors to use in pre spawn spawn and post spawn and started per Matts advice putting trailers on my Chatterbaits Used a 3/8 and 1/2oz black blue sparkle flake chatterbait with a 5.25" Zoom Super Fluke in Avocado red beginning in the 1st week of April again per Matt Stefans advice using varied retrieval speeds and short pauses OH MY GOOD LOARD did I catch the bass lots and lots of bass like nothing I ever experienced before during the pre spawn spring and caught my biggest bass of the year so far on a black/blue sparkle flake 3/8oz chatterbait with an Avocado red Zoom Super Fluke trailer Then turned my sons onto fishing Chatterbaits but now it was late pre spawn and chartreuse and white ones with Sight Fish 3.8" abd 4.5" paddle baits were the killer bait Then I tried Zman willow chatters with 4" paddle baits and my sons and I were in bass catching heaven On a trip to Ohio this year it was barely post spawn and my boys wanted to go to Cedar Point AP and we went fushing day before and day after the days they spent at the park and we just drove around and found public boat docks and insore areas of Lake Erie to fish and started with rattle baits and murdered the bass and sheepshead then rattle bait bite went cold moved to Chatterbaits again murdered the bass and Sheepshead Found two small inland lakes directly attached to lake Erie no small mouth but my sons and I absolutely murdered the largemouth using first Chatterbaits then when the Chatterbait bite went cold went to smaller Willowchatters with 4" paddle tail baits and again just murdered the bass talking 15-20 bass each of us from lakes less than 5 acres in size we actually had people fallowing us trying to find out how we were catching so many bass when so few others were catching anything We got very lucky hit it just right that the weeds in these little tributary lakes were 70-75% still 1-5' below the surface perfect chatterbait and Willowchatter environments had bass bight so many boot sections off my trailers I almost ran out of trailers unfortunately I didhave any stinger hooks or trailer hooks or we could've caught A LOT more bass My best day was fishing a marina rock border shore made up of bolders 1-2' in diameter and watched many many bass come up and inhale my 3/8oz Hammerhead Chatterbait My biggest bass of the trip and it tied for my biggest bass so far of 2024 I watched fallowing my 3/8oz chartreuse and white chatterbait and I stopped it about 25' away controld its decent so it fell on a big flat rock the big sow bass came up to my bait I just jerked the bait to give it a little life and she inhaled it as I watched set the hook a good fight with multiple jumps later and she was released Chatterbaits are absolutely deadly in my lakes especially if you work them with a very erratic retrieve

For play with lures in bass fishing, a fast action on a medium heavy or above power of a rod is never a good idea. The tip of a moderate action medium heavy rod is still more powerful than an extra fast action medium light rod. Good content as always!

The big mistake I see people make fishing a chatterbait is just casting and winding it straight in. That will work sometimes but 95% of the bites I get throwing a chatterbait come on a pause or immediately after a pause when the bait starts moving again. I fish chatterbaits very erratic. Stop and go, sometimes pop the rod tip. I use my reel handle a lot to make the bait change direction, pause etc.
@KrakenBass7 ай бұрын
Solid tip. Thanks for sharing. I love the idea of just usuing your reel to change the cadence
