I bet the Tangerine is more useful in its current configuration. Maybe a canvas top and a windshield and a front winch could be added for more recovery work.
@ritterkeks

a windshield - even just perspex - is a must. especially if the driver in this case is not even wearing sunglasses. very easy to get injured - a stone or an insect to the cheek is dangerous enough, let alone straight to the eyeball.

There *HAS* to be some kind of draw bar setup that can be made for that wrecker to make the braking less of an issue on the vehicle being towed.

I wonder if a adjustable bar (pin and holes) and two ring hitches one on each end. Then a pintle hitch in the receiver of each vehicle that would stop it from smashing into each other. Along with the winch holding it up

Around 1:55 to 2:00 I noticed that both of Tomtom’s passengers were holding on to the roll cage rails. Might I suggest to put some sort of loops from the one where Colby has his hand to the a pillar one. To reinforce the corner and provide a hand hold.

@joecat101
@joecat101 4 ай бұрын
You need a solid link from the back of the wrecker to the towed vehicle. I have an idea for it. Utilize the pintle hook. Make a 2 piece sliding square or round tube with holes drilled to make it length adjustable, add the pintle hook to attach it the the wrecker. Than make a couple adapters that can strap on to the diff, or bumper & one to go into a 3 in hitch reciever on the towed vehicle. No more damage, and no need for braking or an anchor vehicle.

Back in '99 I rebuilt my Dana 35 after a trip to Moab and broke the ring and pinion. Had to drive out of Pritchett Canyon, and back to town in reverse. Right after I rebuilt it, tried to chirp the tires (like an idiot) by popping the clutch. Heard a bang, so I got on the freeway to head home a couple miles away. Tire and axle shaft flew off and left me grinding my way to a stop on the side of the road riding on the backing plate. Still remember watching my axle shaft and tire role past me! Fun times, needless to say a Dana 44 with Superior axle shafts and a spool solved that problem forever!

Just think how hard this would have been without that wrecker. That's the best thing you have ever built.

You’ve heard of utility trailers that can be used for just about anything. That is what the Tangerine reminds me of, a small utility vehicle that can be used for just about anything (within reason). Think in terms of the old 1960s era Ford Bronco.

Just a tip I learned a long time ago when you blow a brake caliper you can take the brake line off slide a nail in the line re-install line and it will plug the line so you'll have the rest of your brakes

Great job to all that was a very difficult recovery. Matt, you did a great job on using how to get out you did some practicing for later down the road. Matt and Jaymie I would like to wish you and your family and employees a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

A couple small pair of vice grips on the brake hoses will help you in those situations to get you partial brakes going again with minor risk of further damage.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why an operation like yours does not have 100's of straps on that tow truck? You may not need them all the time however when you do, YOU DO NEED THEM.

There should be a rubber brake hose that feeds off to both rear wheel cylinders. Clamp that hose, and you'd get front brakes to use. (for future info)

Hello. I'm really impressed of how you made this through, it's impressing to see how the hole crew is so well coordinated, and the built of that wrecker is for sure outstanding and is one of a kind. What a job!

this was likely one of the most technical rescues ive seen you guys perform; multiple rescue tow vehicles with multiple people assisting. i wonder how much you charged this jeep owner for the rescue?

This recovery reminded me of why I was so cautious when I went exploring on the back side of Moab. I always went solo and I would have to be my own recovery specialist.
