I'm running a very similar setup. Full delete, no swivel flaps, new turbo cartridges, and a stage 2.5. It's an absolute beast! Someone put a different muffler on mine before I got it. I don't know what brand. It looks generic and is smaller and more round than the factory suitcase. I'm not going to change it because it sounds really good and was well installed. I just don't know what it is. Every time I fire it up on a parking lot, everyone looks around to see where that sound is coming from. No one thinks it's the slick little Bimmer.

What was your biggest mistake? Do you have a 40D or just a 30D? What else did you do to the engine? Did you delete the EGR as well? Swivel flaps? Did you upgrade the turbo? or just deleted dpf and bigger exhaust pipe?

DPF/EGR/SCR delete. Swirl flap delete. Tune. That’s all it takes. I also replaced the harmonic balancer for reliability. Tuning is personal preference, but I definitely recommend Sutphin for the trans tune. I’ve owned a deleted X5 for 4 years now, bought it to commute to work and love it.

I just bought myself an 09 335d sedan and i can’t wait for a full delete but NY may be a challenge to pass. All i know is they do obd as long as check engine light is off i guess i wont fail.

In AUS it's ilegal to delete the DPF it makes your car unroadworthy due to emissions , and yours sounds like a semi - trailer .

A properly tuned and deleted diesel runs cleaner than one with all the emissions scam devices. Devices designed to reduce efficiency and drastically reduce the life span of the engine. A deleted diesel is much more roadworthy in every sense of the term. Fewer emissions, far less fuel consumption, much greater longevity, much higher reliability. His X5 sounds glorious. You need your testosterone levels checked and get out of the Socialist Republic of Australiastan.

Ok, sounds like a truck & a great way to attract the attention of the police. Just rolling past them, they'd know it's been modified. Not sure about the US, but here in Australia, if anyone gets busted having removed/deleted DPF or any other emissions control, you face huge fines of up to $25,000.

Winter diesel takes a hit on MPG, but I was averaging probably 24 MPG before and now in the summer with a mostly 55 speed limit I could do 30 MPG.

Factory tuning for some reason, if you drive it in manual for a few minutes and then shift back into auto it’s smooth

But if you will let run your engine 5 -7 minutes before drive shifting will run smooth. just give 5-7 minutes to idle before drive on cold, diesel like that to start driving when engine a little warm up

I don't consider it a problem, just a smell to get use to. Growing up in a rural and agricultural area you get use to it. It still retains the factory rear muffler.

With a good tune, there should be very little diesel smell. I think we are all just so used to petrol smell we don't notice it on most cars anymore, but diesel is less common so we notice. Diesel smell is far better than burnt catalytic converter smell. Ammonia and rotten eggs, mmmm. 😋 So much better for the environment. Biodiesel actually smells great. Smells like fresh French fries. Everyone will want a burger for some reason when they ride in your car.

No check engine lights on if you a proper tune when removing exhaust components. The fault that popped up was from a tire pressure monitor sensor.

Only a little puff at wide open throttle. The only way to get turbo sounds is from removing exhaust components.

@@GrindMyGears I have a n54 and the m57 both turbo you can get a charge pipe and bov (blow off valve)for the disel not 100 percent sure if there’s one for disel but that’s a way to to not really pollute and get those turbo sounds

@@Centralcoastwraps831 you can install a catted down pipe in place of the DPF but the SCR still gets removed and it is not any better for the environment. The catted down pipe really only helps with the smell. Some people don’t like it, but I don’t mind the smell.

But Thor speakers or Maxhaust exhaust speakers.. you keep your clean car and everything intact without ruining it by chopping off good components but get the great engine sounds and can control how loud it is That’s what I’ll have to do cos I don’t want to cut off my muffler either cos it might not pass MOT inspection and might bring out dirty smokes
