Facts! I'm local out of Ohio on some company account. I work with 5 other black drivers, and i'm the only white one. We're getting blamed for everything and most of us have been driving 6-20 years. "Your drivers aren't sliding their tandems, your drivers are smoking in the truck, your drivers are going too fast, you guys need to pull out by 8am so we have room for other inbound loads..." oh it goes on. Our manager already doesn't like em but we have to "keep the peace". Apparently, Becky the office staff that deals with our manager is very sensitive and has complained already that our manager is too hot-headed. This is a new account mind you because Ryder bailed on em before our carrier took over. Since this particular account doesn't have any yard dogs, we get to be that as well. So, you want to go local? Better count the cost.

Why do more work for less money?
@mmartinez3578Ай бұрын
@Farrell0208, that's the problem, because 1 company you went to hurt your feelings by asking you to do something you blame all local companies yeah ok. Not all companies pay the same.
@Farrell0208Ай бұрын
@@mmartinez3578 okay let me give you some actual FACTS So you can speak from FACT, not tryhard feelings. Here in Tucson AZ, local jobs on Avg pay $20-25/hr Most don’t pay OT because trucking is federally exempt from having to pay OT after 40 hours. 25/hr at 50 hours a week =$1,250 I can go OTR and get .64 cpm and at a 2500 miles a week (which is a short week), make $1600/week. So please answer the question, “why work harder for less money” Or is that too lazy of you? 🙄 So YES local jobs for the most part DO pay the same. That’s factually how markets work. It’s called being competitive with one another. If one employer significantly increases pay, within 6-12 months most of the other jobs are going to do the same. Food service jobs and fuel hauling jobs are anomalies. Not everyone is going to be able to do those jobs. They pay MORE for the level of work being done or risk involved to do the job. Not every town has a Sysco, or Fuel hauling job. Sometimes all you’ve got is Bobs Trucking, shuttling trailers from a shipper to the drop yard. No one has ever asked me to do “too much” labor. Please speak for yourself and no one else. In 12 years I’ve pulled doubles that I’ve had to put together and breakdown myself. I’ve pulled tanks I’ve had to load and off load. I’m far from afraid of manual labor. Idk why you feel the need to speak for others to make yourself feel better about what you do. Local jobs don’t “scare me away” it’s when OT dries up. Or a company loses a contract and hours get cut. It’s all a trade off. It comes down to what do you want to trade something for. However factually, statistically speaking, OTR does pay more than MOST local jobs. Don’t argue me on it. Fuel hauling and Sysco are not the be all end all of local jobs. You want to work harder for less money for the sake of being home, that’s fine. Don’t put others down for not doing what works for YOU especially when someone comes to you with FACTS. Go be a tryhard chest puffed out “bro” somewhere else.

If you're a successful driver, it's because that's what you're supposed to be doing. If you're not successful, this is the wrong job for you. Period.
