Hey. I'm going to jump in here before all/any of the following is said.... yes it could damage the Aluminium poles, yes it could tip, no you shouldn't twist straps, yes I should have just hired the proper kit, yes I should have use the 3T scaffold method, no I didn't have correct PPE, yes I am sad my mallet broke 😂..... but apart from that, it's amazing what you can get done with some common sense and working with caution 😉👍

True, but we have all at some point put on our thinking caps and found an unconventional method to get something done. Then when it works, the feeling of satisfaction and glee is awesome! Keep it up. Cannot wait to see the raising. I am “loving the giddy as a school boy” grin and enthusiasm you have o this build. Just what we need during these times.

YES! Good old 'Common-Sense' EH? ......... Sadly it's been subliminally 'Drummed OUT!' of many Construction workers these days thanks to the EVIL 'Health & Safety Gestapo' imposing £FINES for using it :-(
@catabaticanabatic38003 жыл бұрын
Can you define "common sense" please? If you mean "I think it is ok,therefore it is", you are sadly mistaken. Truth be told, the much vaunted idea of common sense is a very dangerous concept. It has killed countless thousands. Less people die or are horrendously mutilated every day in workplaces now that "common sense" has been debunked. The 70,000,000 people in Britain all have their own very personal, very different version of this mythical "common sense. It keeps A&E professionals very busy. Work safe buddy. Your family depends on it.

Hi, setup looks good and will be bullet proof a small tweak on the counterweight. I would consider having your counter weights pinned so that they can’t slide in the direction of your crane. As soon as there’s tension on the strap the frictional force will disappear and the counterweight will start sliding towards the crane and the whole thing will start tipping. Good luck!

STOP panicking Tim your rigging is fine, Put some tension on that back strap,If you have the headroom, put your chain block, on the end of your hoist then your slings onto the hook of the chain hoist, then you can lift it with the hoist to your almost in to position and tweek it with the chain hoist to your final position it will work a treat. I have used this method all of my life on all shapes and sizes it works a treat

You probably can't state that it is inherently safe as using components (tower) for a purpose not intended BUT your logic is sound and seems to work. If I had one concern it is the moment acting on the verticals on the tower where the lift clamps on... Guessing this is designed to clamp to 50mm steel scaff tube not an ali-tower... Worth checking this periodically for distortion I would say. I'm not an engineer btw but some experience of lifting ops in the entertainment industry. Also if you can bridle the long beams further you will get better balance, as long as you have the lifting height. Watch out for wind! Looking forward to seeing the results 😊

Loving the play with different video styles. Really needed a nice relaxing feeling video after today. You might be able to recover that footage, I used TestDisk (open source tool) on Sunday to recover video files from a 500gb SanDisk Extreme Pro (USB-C NVMe storage). I had the partition table go horribly wrong but was able to recover all the files after a little work. 500gb is only 25 mins footage for me, but it was critical footage!

I work with mobile cranes and I've definitely seen worse attempted on site. You are well within the WLL of a 1t sling with a bite round . (800kg , reduce sling capacity by 20% if you donit as you did.) Aa long as you get the centre of gravity a single sling will do. Its how steel erectors do it and it gives you more manoeuvrability of the beam. Glad to see that you did a risk assessment to begin with🤣

@gerardfarrell31353 жыл бұрын
I agree fully. Id prefer a tradesperson with out the qualifications and instead an intrest and love of their work. All too often youngsters are thrown into a trade because their not academically well enough graded. The exam system in Ireland & UK (im irish and have also studied in UK to masters level) are archaic and unrepresentative of the persons ability. I spent many years training as an engineer in both countries and indeed working as an engineer in both countries and world wide, and ive left it all to work with wood full time. Anyway, you rock on an keep doing what your doing. Your work is brilliant 👍🏻

Wrong in so many ways mate, but worst of all is you know it and then proceed anyway. H&S is not there to stop the job, just to stop the cowboys. Don't see you cutting corners elsewhere, on building regs, tools, materials etc so its a real shame you are encouraging others to take risks likes this - just see the comments here.....Big fan of your channel and style, but this is dangerous. BTW you shouldn't be using any tightening fixings or clamps on the tower - the manufacturer has designed it with clips and or thumbnails only so you cant crush the tubes. I'm sur plenty will pile in telling me to back off, but your safety is at stake and what you are showing and therefore advocating is just wrong. Please reconsider - you are so much better than this.
@TheRestorationCouple3 жыл бұрын
I’d have to disagree. Only danger was damaging my scaffolding, which having tested and then used as planned was clearly not going to happen. The risk of a beam falling off a genie lift or any other of the suggested methods would still have the exact same outcome to whatever was below it. Safety comes first I agree, but lifting a 80kg wooden beam in a controlled way is not really pushing the limits.
