The arrow thing is about when the funnel is perpendicular to the conveyor belt, so you can choose if it is to get things in or out of the container. In your case, the conveyor belt is going towards the funnel, so it will always be an input, if it was going away from the funnel, it would always be an output. When it is like that, the change you saw is purely cosmetic iirc
