❓ Do you plan on reading the rest of the series?
Probably not. I rated this book 3 stars and can see how the story would be appealing to its demographic, but I’m not interested in continuing!
❓ Will you read The Infernal Devices instead?
I’m considering it since I heard it’s much better, but it’s not a priority at the moment.
❓ Do you know about the fanfiction drama with Cassandra Clare?
I vaguely know about it but haven’t looked into deeply because there was way too much info and I’m not trying to read an entire 2nd book on top of City of Bones. I’m not interested in the drama and wanted to talk about the COB plot only, otherwise talking about anything else would have made this video even more painfully long. I’m sure a bunch of people will info dump the story in the comments anyway lol
❓ Can you comment more on the iNcEsT and how cRaZy it is???
I’m very neutral with this plot twist because I grew up reading shoujo manga, which commonly has problematic themes and therefore desensitized my brain. I try to be open-minded with kinks, but I think it’s weird that incest is so romanticized when there are many victims in real life who have been harmed by this. This topic should not be promoted in stories geared towards a young audience, especially when it’s not even relevant to COB other than for the sake of angst and drama. Authors have been cancelled for much less but Cassandra Clare seems to have gotten away with it which is kinda weird? It personally doesn’t bother me, but I wonder (objectively speaking) why people aren’t more upset by this. Maybe if it had been published in today’s socially aware climate, the internet would have made more of a fuss.

@@mcarts4722 let's be perfectly honest, the show did the characters SO much better than the books ever did lmao. the show actually gave the side characters (aka everyone who isn't clary and jace) a personality and the lgbt rep was wayyyy better done too because cassandra clare is just a cishet white woman who fetishizes gay dudes and doesn't care about gay people aside from that. the show did the gays justice and actually included more lgbt characters than just malec as the token gays in an all-straight cast. they also left out Alec's gross biphobia from the books and all the slutshaming and "I'm not like other girls" garbage that book clary frequently said about Izzy and other female characters.

If i remember everything correctly, he's the high warlock of Brooklyn. He was born in malaysia sometime i think in the 1400. A bisexual icon Alec's eventual husband. He noted for being extravagant and helpful. Some of his most notable actions are: fighting alongside shadowhunters in multiple wars, casting spells to help certain people ( ex the spell that made clary not see shadowhunters) and mentoring other newer warlocks (tessa). There was a show based on shadowhunters and i really suggest looking up some malec (alec and magnus) clips. The actors chemistry is great.

I read these books when I was a young teen and so, when the kids went to the club I was like "I'm a book nerd, I've never been to the club before, I assume it'll be dark and full of drugs and sex" and never realised that kids going to an all ages club would look like a middle school disco - you've opened my third eye with this context. Age is an important factor when writing characters. It is what makes a story believable. If a character is in a situation they are too young for, it takes readers out of the story. The same applies if a character is too old depending on the situation. I am curious whether certain YA authors may actually be intimidated writing their books for an adult audience so they direct it to a younger demographic.

They'll write their stories with these situations in which a child or a teenager would never find themselves, but an adult certainly would - like going to a nightclub with one's friends. I guess I'm just sick of the forced focus of these amazing (or even just decent) stories on immature characters with no life experience, but adult fantasies always have erotic elements to them that I might not be interested in reading for the given setting. It's a catch-22.

@@BoredomBee Unfortunate. Personally, I enjoy romance but when it is part of the plot and not used as something to "flavor" the story. I tried reading mystery novels but there were too many romantic situations and I was like "if I wanted to read romance, I would read the romance genre - not a genre which is supposed to be about investigation, deduction, and using one's wits." But yes, there does seem to be a problem where people forget children - even if they're teenagers - are still kids. I don't know when this shift in YA happened. I remember reading Tamara Pierce's series and although there was "romance," it was always focused on the development of the character as they aged.
