I would recommend installing plums that would kick on when they sence water on the floor. Or atleast have sensors with alarms that go off if they detect water on the floor. What I just mentioned is used close to hotwater tanks.

There's these devices that some visually impaired people use that make a sound when water touches its sensors. They use it for pouring drinks and stuff. Could be used as a last ditch warning if he forgets but I don't think it's very loud

One thing: Buckethead! It's a shop vac that attaches to any standard 5gal bucket, and is extremely helpful for those moments when you flood your house. Whether because of your fish tanks overflowing or my washing machine drainage getting clogged and backing up because it sucks, they're way better than the normal shop vac for stuff because they're affordable and they don't require a specific (and expensive to replace) bin. Just any 5gal or 7gal bucket.

For situations like that water over flow you should get a wet shop vac it would help out allot with water spills especially since your constantly dealing with water.

Also can use a dustpan or a flat plate to scoop out the water. Towel only after the water is very little, or else, happy exercise

hey look learn from this. I own a bait shop and I've left the water running a few times and had the same happen to me. you've got two options, a floor drain or overflows for all the tanks that will drain the water once it reaches a set level. I have since not overflowed since installing the overflow drains. I'm sure there's other solutions out there but those are the two that came to mind. Definitely look into it so you don't destroy that new house of yours lol. I used towels, a shop vac, and a pump with a floor suction head to suck up the water. also put fans to help dry the floors!

Usually a cycle takes anywhere from 1 month to 6 weeks. I always add in ammonia and beneficial bacteria daily in order to speed up the cycle as much as I can. Heaters can also help with a cycle as well. I dose up to 2ppm so I don't have a massive nitrite spike during the cycling process. Add in more beneficial bacteria daily Luke! You got this fam

Luke, Maybe it’s a good idea with the amount of water you have down in that basement to buy yourself some kind of vacuum that will extract water. That way, you have peace of mind if you ever have a mishap again you can quickly suck it up.😂 I can’t wait to see your GF in their new home. Get a good shop vac. Remove the cloth filter and you can suck up water super fast. I had the bottom panel of a 150 gallon break and dump 150 gallons on the floor. Had it sucked up and dry in less than 30 min. Lifesaver!

When you were starting the basement I wondered if you would put in a floor drain of some sort. I’m sure it would have been expensive but we put one in the laundry room of our basement and even though we had to tear up the cement floor etc., it was very worth it. Thankfully you didn’t use real wood flooring. Maybe invest in a wet vac for future floods.

If you accidentally overflowed and spilled that much water I would recommend you to get rubber floor squeegee! I used to worked at food service and when I spilled bunch of water at dish room, it was really convenient to gather all of them to one place.

When a plant that is typically a terrestrial plant is taken from that environment, and placed in water, in order for the plant to survive it needs to grow " water roots", and drop its terrestrial roots. That's why you're seeing the rotting. Eventually this probably won't happen as badly.

Luke I kinda have a problem. So I bought a fish but I am unable to identify whether it is an oranda or fantail but it does have the double rear fins and also the 2 bottom fins. It is white and is about an inch big. Also how do you tell their age?
