Super cool, man. Floating island built into the board is such a good idea. Fantastic work.

Why do you spray it with IPA before the glue? And what concentration do you use?
@keep_making Жыл бұрын
@@Fatherhumble it helps the glue get into it. If you don’t the glue can just sit on top and you’ll be lucky if it even binds the top most layer. The ISO makes sure it gets into all the grout or flock and solidifies it

Looks great but I cant see those floating islands lasting long before they break off.

Like this build, but I'm not sure why you bothered with XPS foam. You didn't use the foam for texture on the ground or the islands... it could be built of any foam type when using plaster /modelling compound everywhere. Additionally, if you don't stick the floating islands in to the base, just drill down through the XPS and into the chipboard, you could change your island layout easily.

For the islands I did use XPs for the majority of their bulk which keeps them lightweight and easily shaped. But for the boards you’re right, this was a commission, so usually I just use xps as the base to keep everything light but because I used wood to reinforce them here, it made it pretty redundant

I am new to making boards and out of curiosity what would you use other than XPS? I do like the look of the plaster rocks but what would make a better base to put them on?
