Overall, I like this build a lot. The cotton ball rapids were a little too heavy in my personal opinion. They covered up a lot of the detail underneath and I think dialing it back slightly will let all the layers be visible. "The PL Premium was hard to sculpt through after it hardened." My suggestion for the future would be to do the terrain sculpting in two stages. Stage one, temporarily affix the multiple layers with something like masking tape and do the majority of the carving away of big chunks. Then you can permanently glue them with the PL Premium and any fine detail sculpting should be faster and easier sense you don't have to carve the big chunks out.
@HodgePodgeHobbies8 ай бұрын
glad you liked it! i totally agree looking back at it I wish I had dialed it down a bit more, lost a lot of detail in the rocks, definitely gonna change it next time. and you are so right about that! that would have saved me a lot of pain! thanks!😅

I was thinking about elevating the quality of my gaming streams (I stream Warmachine and Shatterpoint) and the next step now would be improving the quality of the image. Nice video, but a much easier, cheaper and far more realistic looking way would be to buy a woodlands scenic rock mould(s) and some casting plaster, cast them (very easy), and stick them onto the edges of the same styrofoam sheets. Doesn't need a 3d printer, or expensive resin, is very fast to do (can demold in approx. 15 minutes), and looks better too. 3D printers are nice for details, but using them to make landscape is just incredibly inefficient in both cost and time.
@HodgePodgeHobbies8 ай бұрын
thanks man! and all good points about a classic and proven method! one small correction is that the rocks were printed in pla instead of resin, and for 3d printing im just impressed that it looked comparable, its just another tool to add to the many options of terrain building and that's the great part!
@looleeland9 ай бұрын
Paris of plaster?
@HodgePodgeHobbies8 ай бұрын
Woops, I suppose the brand name is actually "plaster of paris" but it's just wall compound, the stuff you use to fix paint chips on walls 👍

you want alcohol based pigment. Adding acrylic pigment is like adding water to resin (a no no)
