🌿 I MADE A PALUDARIUM FOR MUDSKIPPERS | TERRAQUAMAN

🌿Ciao ragazzi!
For the longest time, I've wanted to make a saltwater aquarium. But saltwater can be intimidating, so I decided to start with something in between brackish water! In this video, I’m setting up a brackish aquarium for mudskippers, unique amphibious fish that thrive in environments between freshwater and full marine conditions. I’ll go over the setup, water parameters, and everything needed to create the perfect home for these fascinating creatures.

You should try saltwater macro algae. Also, if you make a bigger tank in the future, consider getting mollies since they can also do brackish water.

This is a fantastic little build, but mudskippers should be offered mostly mud with a tide. I've been reluctant to get mudskippers for this reason, as I can't provide it. I'd advise you go join some mudskipper groups and see how it's done.

Mudskipper. The name eludes to a important part, namely mud / clay. A lot of species need it to burrow and mud helps them regulate moisture. Sand on the other hand could irritate their skin and gills.

I don't think that the freshwater bacteria from the filter sponge will survive in brackish. Brackish tanks take a ton of time to cycle, in my experience more than freshwater and saltwater. The lava rocks looks good, but it's probably sharp for mudskipper. And they also should need mud 😢. Apart from that it looks cool! Anubias, java fern and java moss won't survive over 1.005 long term. Some plants I keep in my brackish setups are: Bacopa monnieri Ruppia maritima Salomus valerandi Cryptocoryne ciliata Elocharis parvula You can also use brackish chaetomorpha if your water us over 1.010 sg

Yes, you're right! Freshwater bacteria don’t fully survive the transition, so cycling a brackish tank takes extra time. I’m keeping an eye on the parameters and might seed it with salt-tolerant bacteria. As for the lava rocks, I made sure to check for sharp edges, but I’ll keep an eye on them! And don’t worry mud is definitely in the plan! 😁 Thanks for the feedback and the plant suggestions!
