To get a car like that in the UK with that power and space you could only spend big amounts of pounds, but down here that was a standard family urban car before the SUV pandemic hit us. You're famous for finding reasons not to keep a car, so who knows how long Betty will stick around. But: I have seen you posting things on Twitter, not understanding what you were on about. Guess it was Betty. What a lovely surprise seeing the old girl again. A very welcome surprise :) I'm SO looking forward to the upcoming series on how she ended up with a UK numberplate. Congratulations on getting her here in the first place. ..and for the nothing it's worth: When you panned from Betty to the Oltcit having Betty as part of the collection made 100% sense to me.

As a Holden man, I would have loved it if you to had driven a Commodore around NZ and then brought it over to Old Blighty instead. In the long run though, it is good that you got Ugly Betty as there are quite a few Commodores and derivatives already in the UK (with Vauxhall badging) and I seriously doubt if there are any Aussie AU Fords there. Maybe a quick check with the DVLA might be interesting. Just be careful not to do much driving when there is salt on the roads as most Aussie Fords suffer a lot with tinworm. I bet you are glad she is a six and not a V8, given the price of petrol in the UK. I hope Betty serves you well. Just tell the guy next door that Betty is an Aussie Sierra, LOL

Wow, I never expected this! I'd have burst having to keep this secret for so long. It's great to see Betty back on the channel you must be over the moon. Comfy lazy 4 litre automatic with loads of torque - my kind of car. Only downside is it's perfect for towing a caravan (don't tell Miss Hubnut).

Two or three grades of wet and dry, a bucket of soapy water, some t-cut and an old pair of pants are all you need to get those headlights both looking beautiful and shiny again. Well, shiny.

Not a rediculous purchase at all - a brilliant choice actually. These Falcons are bullet proof, - provided you keep the rust mites at bay. I owned a lower spec Forte model AU2 Falcon for 15+ years. Only had to replace consumerable parts namely tyres, oil, plugs, bulbs, etc. Reluctantly had to trade it on a new FXG XR6.. Enjoy your future Falcon Adventures.

Keeping the tinworm at bay might be difficult in the UK though. Road salt is a very real issue for many of us here in Europe.

Betty's paint is pretty ruined by the NZ sun. She will get a lot of rust protection.
@ianmontgomery75343 жыл бұрын
@@HubNut i find that strange. I live in Melbourne (about 8k from the bay) and my AU has been kept outside for most of its life (at least the last ten years) and the only clear coat problem is where i had a guard replaced after a friend backed in to my car. Fortunately even at 22 years old mine shows no rust except around the windscreen.

Welcome to the UK Betty. I see that she still wears your headlining bodge. Will you be able to source parts for her, especially basic stuff needed for servicing?
@TheKnobCalledTone.3 жыл бұрын
Someone like MotoringBox could probably send a care package with about 5 years worth of servicing parts in one hit (filters, belts, HT leads etc). Might even be able to sneak in a spare alternator, starter motor and a few other bits that may not be needed but are good to have on hand just in case.

Wow! The number of times I was thinking that you needed Betty back in your life... just don't chop her in for something else in a couple of months! Wonderful news, Ian, may she reward you with many further adventures and pleasure (with occasional 'moments' of course).
@TheKnobCalledTone.3 жыл бұрын
I don't think the moments will be too bad. If bush mechanics in outback Australia can keep Falcons going with string and spinifex, the occasional bodge to keep Betty wafting around Wales whilst waiting for parts from Down Under shoudn't be a big deal. At least there's plenty of room for a decent-sized tool box (along with a few spare parts and some fluids) in the boot.

That's excellent! I'm glad I helped in an infinitesimally small way. Love the T-Shirt! In my infrequent trips to Wales, I knew I was there when I saw "ARAF" on the road. Never thought I would see it behind a Fairmont! Congratulations and happy motoring. Oh, by the way. to get the car out of the beach, turn traction control off if you can, put it in neutral, give it a few revs and "rock" the gear lever between drive and reverse. If you time it right, you can rock the car out of the depressions the wheels make.
