I could listen to this content all day! This is a great design, a nice silhouette with a great industrial look. you captured the idea that this ship is something people use for work. its interior is likely plastered with "lock out, tag out" posters and papers describing changes to union regs. I love it.

LOVE the transporter design. May I recommend for your detail greeblies trying HO scale detailing parts such as brake assemblies and hatches and doors plus diesel motor cooling fans, which make great looking thrusters. All good model railroad shops should carry them and they are inexpensive. I got this technique from the late Greg Jein he used it on the mothership miniature he did for Close Encounters.

I really enjoy watching your videos and your creative process. If you wanted to go about painting your own logos or lettering or numbering, how would you go about doing it? Just found your channel. Picked up so many tips already (three vids in). I aim to build a warship from the Warhammer 40K universe. Quick question. Is the Weld On the same PVC/ABS glue available on a well known shopping site that is listed as used for plumbing/plastic gluing jobs? It is a Weld On item, just has a different name to the one you are using. Cheers.
@charlie18722 ай бұрын
What is your recommended alternative to the weld-on 3 adhesive? Thanks
@Sublight_DriveАй бұрын
I'd say first my choice would be plain CA glue, though if you're looking for a cement I know Tamiya and Testors make plastic cements that work well.

@NicholasKonradsen2 жыл бұрын
oh wow, how is the weld on doing in terms of sticking on those random greeblies? usually i hear a lot about having to use superglue on other plastics.
@Sublight_Drive2 жыл бұрын
Since all the greeblies I used on this kit were from actual model kits, they're the same kind of plastic as the styrene sheets I used. So, it worked just fine. You're right though, that if I'd sourced my bits from other places, I'd need to use superglue or some other bonding agent.

@Sublight_Drive6 ай бұрын
I couldn’t tell you. I’ve looked up what exactly the chemical is in weld-on but their official info doesn’t say, probably because it’s proprietary. That said, the main reason I like weld on is because I can buy it by the pint🍻

What application do you use for drawing the templates? Is it just done in Word or Paint or do you have something fanicer?

Oil paint in mineral spirits, which is a pretty staple oil paint thinner. I suspect if you added water it would get clumpy and weird.

Have you ever tried laser cutting the pieces?
@Sublight_Drive2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t. I feel like lasercutting might mess up the styrene, it starts to warp at pretty low temperatures, relatively speaking.
@phongdacbiet2 жыл бұрын
@@Sublight_Drive ah yeah that makes sense. I've used a laser cutter for architectural models in school but we cut paper/wood. But then you have to deal with burning and scorch marks. I just picked up a cricut machine though and I'm also curious if that would cut styrene nicely.

Out of curiosity, how do you safeguard your lungs from the weld on solution? Can a paint half-mask protect you or do you need to go stronger in the mask category?
@Sublight_Drive2 жыл бұрын
Good ventilation, mainly. I have constant airflow in my workspace. I’ve got cloth and n-95 masks that work fine for paint and plastic, but I think I’d need considerably more hardcore ppe gear to make any difference re: weld on fumes.
