Seeing how you check for square with the triangle ruler made me think how much more convenient a set of small 1-2-3/setup blocks would be for you. Maybe consider getting a set, they are not terribly expensive and have helped me a great deal with keeping things square during glue ups. Keep up the incredible work!

That’s a great idea! I do it by eye about as often as I actually measure, but that doesn’t always work as well as I’d like. 1 2 3 blocks would definitely be easier in those tight little corners.

@roelantverhoeven3716 ай бұрын
I love it when sci fi space ships are referred to in traditional naval terms, the dreadnought era in SW and most others.... but in this case the age of sail! a 3rd rate ship of the line would have been a two decked (sometimes 3) ship with 60 to 80 guns. ships of the 4rd rate would be considered frigates from 1750 onwards. USS Constitution was a 4th rate with her 44 guns. HMS Victory a first rate with 104!

This one came out looking great! I recently tried to use my cad software to remake the Morrigan Class from The Expanse, which gave me a newfound appreciation for how hard it is to make 3d models of things that only appear in 2D. Although my Morrigan Attempts have thus far been unsuccessful, it has given me new insight into the difficulties of 3D spaceship modeling. Yours looks truly fantastic, so keep up the good work! -J

REALLY great job, can I suggest next time you could make some holes to insert some rods btw the pieces, so to strenght the bond. P.s. some time ago I saw some plasticard printed as graph paper, this one could help you a lot for your wonderful works.👍
@Sublight_Drive2 жыл бұрын
I did actually consider this, but I chose not to for two reasons: First, I was unsure how to get the registration precise enough on the holes, and second, because it’s hollow, any rods down the middle would only be making contact where the pieces are being joined, anyway. In the end I made a judgement call and decided that between how little it weighs (

Well now you gotta do a bigger one! A neat way to get orthogonal projections is use Microsoft 3D Viewer and a 3D model. I'm doing your technique with a ship from Elite: Dangerous. Between custom lighting/shadow colors and a background grid, tracing is a snap.

I like the music in the intro first segment. It's a bit of "we have Boards of Canada at home". The Assembly segment music only came out of my right speaker, which was very distracting. The rest of the audio came out of both, so you probably accidentally moved the music track to a mono track or something. Edit: the track in the Painting segment is also a mono mix for some reason, but you have it centered, so it's better.

I have no plans to sell templates for any ships that aren’t 100% my original work. Sorry! Rights aside, getting the templates to a point where they’re presentable as a product is a lot of work, and works best on designs where I have reproducibility in mind from the start.

What sort of clear coat do you find best?
@Sublight_Drive2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t found reason to distinguish between brands at all. I usually use a satin coat because it’s what I have, and isn’t as intense as a gloss coat. I imagine a matte coat would take better to being painted on, if you’re doing multiple layers.
