First off, wow at your keyboard collection, crazy nice. Love seeing Pulse again, still one of my favorite sets. Also, I LOVE your 3D printed case, the design compliments the keyset perfectly, really, really nice result.

My friend is a big keyboard guy, and I never really understood the appeal until I saw this. Absolutely beautiful piece. Makes me wish I had the ability to do all that, but then again I’d be afraid to ever touch it in fear of damaging it.

Dang! As a "typist" who has had to actually 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 at the keyboard for many decades to remember which key is which, this would confuse the heck out of me

This is very cool! The case design almost gives me Land Speeder vibes, I am sure with you USB-C plug you could almost make an adapter and cover piece to make it more flush. But hats off to you, I am in the process of resin printing a case and "custom" build at the moment

You mentioned trying to fix the cut traces; have you tried magnet wire? I would scrape some of the traces away a bit further apart from where you cut the traces (leaving about an inch in between my scrapes, with the accidental cut in the middle). I have a lot more success when I make more room for myself as opposed to trying to fix the trace where I initially cut it.

Also you did a fantastic job on the keyboard, especially with the sanding!
@MightyJabbasCollection

I have tried magnet wire with other projects but this time I just tried scraping it back a bit and then covering the traces with solder (while avoiding bridges). That actually seemed to work okay but the problem was that I was never fully sure that the scrape was even the problem. I was able to get continuity on both sides of the scrape. I don’t really know enough about how these circuit boards work to do more than simple troubleshooting so I gave up when it got frustrating.

Heatset inserts are not meant to be used like that. You need to model the holes in, so you have 4 or 5 perimeters around the insert to give it the rigidity it needs.
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection Жыл бұрын
That would be a good idea but I don’t really know how to translate the positions of the holes in the PCB to the model

@@MightyJabbasCollection Gotta break out the calipers my friend. Harbor Freight has good digital calipers for under $20.
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection Жыл бұрын
I do have calipers, but in my experience there's enough variance between the measurements on a 3D model and what actually gets printed that it would be frustrating to try and precisely model in something like that. Since I never plan to use this combination of PCB and case again I didn't think it was worth the extra effort
@8BitLife69

@@MightyJabbasCollection How do you think we design things that show up on 3D sharing sites? LOL You should try it, it adds a whole new level of precision. If you're 3D printer is tuned properly, ( which looking at yours, it is not ) there really isn't that much shrinkage. I can model and print within .1mm or less of tolerance.

I knew sort of offhand that you dabbled into keyboards too but it's nice seeing two of my interests together on a channel I didn't necessarily expect 😁 also hell yeah zealios gang!!! I've been dabbling into linears recently but my heart is really about my good ol' zealios 78g board I'm curious about your layout and mounting style preferences. Also you could easily make this into a gummy o-ring mount or o-ring burger mount instead of just a regular tray mount... just a thought 😁
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection Жыл бұрын
I generally like smaller boards. I have a 60% layout that includes arrow keys that I really like (basically it has no right shift since I found that I always shift with my left hand). It’s nice since it lets you use a lot of cases intended for 60% boards but still keep the arrow keys, which I find hard to live without. But 65% or 75% is also good. This project brought me back to the world of keyboards after a bit of a break and it’s interesting to see how things have changed. Lots more options than even a year or two ago. Also seems like everybody wants super smooth linears now and tactiles aren’t very popular
@SeraphimKnight
@SeraphimKnight Жыл бұрын
Tactiles weren't ever super popular to begin with. Despite there being a lot more options as a whole it seems most of the community has converged on 65% gasket-mounted keyboards with linear switches and gmk keycap sets... It's kind of a shame me being generally a fan of bigger layouts,alternative keycap profiles like DSA and tactile switches. I was REALLY into 96% layouts but there's basically no one making those anymore so I've just given up and gone to 75% instead...
