I feel like resisting temptation goes way beyond sex. Is about not disobeying, not going against hierarchy, against god and stuff like that. You cannot have a personality, identity anything. Way before I even discovered my sexuality I already felt like I was being wrong and it was too hard to do things as people told me to. I mean, I understand what you're saying but I think sex is just one thing among a lot of others you're not allowed to do while raised by church or conservative parents. Sometimes we get to the point where we end up performing sex just to get somewhat free from the pressure, it's not even because we want to, but because the prohibition is so intense that having sex feels freeing in a way.

In this movie its actually a metaphor though. Andy's attachment to his collectibles represents his inability to take risks and experience life. its not about the fact that he owns a bunch of toys, its that they are all in their packaging where he has never even been able to enjoy them. Of course IRL there's nothing wrong with keeping your collectibles in the packaging if that's what makes you happy, but it serves a purpose in the story outside of "haha he has toys, what a nerd"

Carell's character does not seek out sexual and/or kink materials. Trying to pretend that the majority of online kink material does not appear on pornographic sites is nonsense. He doesn't watch porn, he doesn't go to porn sites, he doesn't know what kink is because those are the most readily accessible sources of kink material. His entire concept of interpersonal physical intimacy, sexual or no, is from what he gleans from conversations with his friends. This man *cannot give informed consent to kink*. He can *barely* give informed consent to sex and even that is a really murky subject because he is shown in the film to have not received adequate sexual education. Every asexual person in that room commented on it: even they know how to apply a condom. There is no way to justify jumping directly into kink with this character, sorry not sorry. He can't consent, he doesn't know what it is and what happens during it and what could happen during it.

I'm not ace, but even watching this movie as a teenager going through puberty, I thought it was really sad how they showed him having a full enjoyable life, but apparently it was all meaningless because he's never had sex. Like the joke was supposed to be "Haha look at this NERD painting his little figures!" and I was just like what is wrong with enjoying painting little things? They never showed him as feeling like his life was lacking without sex. It was only once he started getting peer pressured that there was something wrong with the way he was living his life, and that just makes those coworkers shitty friends.

As a person who is asexual and doesn't have any asexual friends, it was really comforting to see a group of asexual people in this video series of making LGBTQIA+ watch movies. At times, it can feel like I'm the only person in the world who doesn't particularly care for sex and it also doesn't help that there is such little asexual representation in the media so watching this and just seeing other people like me was so reliving and made me feel less alone. I really appreciate this video series and get so excited whenever you make a new one. It's such a comfort series for me!!

For example, you may experience like a month, a semester or a whole year without feeling any attraction towards another person. For some people you may not have a sex drive at all during this time. For others you may feel the need to orgasm but not need someone else for it. The diference between the three would be the frequence and which phase is more lasting for you. (Alosexual or Asexual)

And the sexuality is about the attraction to other people!! I think there is a specific name for the having or not having sex drive thing but I don't remember it right now.

The prefix a- means the absence of, an absence of sexuality understood purely in terms of physical.. fornicating. We now understand sexualities go beyond the physical act of having sex but the definition still stands. Attraction is understood as something transient, outwards, dependent on the target, not the source. Sexuality can and often is fluid but it's changes are connected to person's identity and inner world, rather than presence or absence of the right person. I think a lot of people who struggle with mental health have experienced periods of low sexual drive that could lead to them identifying as asexual (at least for that for that period) even if person they are/were attracted to is still present in their lives. For some people it takes a long time to realise that they are asexual and their previous sex experiences were results of different pressures and needs.

I am really enjoying this KZbin. I worked on the rigging crew for this movie and was on it for months and months, but the way it works in Hollywood is I barely know the name of the title or the name of the movie and maybe it hadn’t even been named yet. But then as production showed up a few months after rigging on La Cienega Blvd. a defunct Best Buy that became the Electronics store people would show up with a badge that said 40-year-old virgin and I laughed, because I didn’t understand why somebody had a badge proclaiming themselves, in this case it was a teamster. That he was a 40-year-old virgin. I was like what’s the problem? Course he thought I was an idiot because I didn’t know the name of the movie that I worked on. But so often in Hollywood when working on films and television. You’re there for just the day or the week. And you don’t know what production you’re working on until you look at your paystub.but thank you for this. It was awesome.

@@facthunt2facthunt245 Well, as I understand it, it's complicated. No asexuality isn't a "a phase," people grow out of, or something people decide to be or not to be, but sexuality can be fluid. Not for everyone, and fluctuations aren't always so drastic, but it's not impossible to say that his sexuality changed over time. Even within the the ace community, some people describe themselves as aceflux and other microlabels that mean they experience sexual attraction in different ways sometimes. I'm definitely no expert, as I'm someone who has been asexual my entire life, and sex repulsed, but I've heard from other aces and others.

though i don't identify as a man anymore, i did when i originally realised i was, and came out as, asexual. my partner at the time tried to convince me i actually just had erectile dysfunction (because why else would i not want to have sex with him?), and understanding or supportive reactions were relatively rare, at least from my irl friends. my closest friends were naturally much better (and i helped some others realise that they themselves were asexual) but several people told me that asexuality isn't real, or that men can't be asexual. even my own sister thought i just meant i wasn't trying relationships for a while when i told her (she's gotten better since). anyway, now i identify as aroace (and agender), and my queer-platonic partner is polyamorous and demisexual, so needless to say i have a better experience now. but the asexual stigma, particularly towards men is very much a whole thing. loved the video as ever, can't wait to see what other films you think of to torture asexuals with.

Well, I'm crying now. That was unexpectedly incredibly sweet. I'm demi myself, which I didn't know at all in 2005 (beyond having no vocab for it, I wasn't super in-touch with my own desires other than wanting love and wanting people to like me.) I loved this movie when it came out. I was (and am) a huge Steve Carrell fan, because his humor is always founded on vulnerability and understanding. I like that Andy was able to be flawed without having to be "fixed" to find love. The end kind of bummed me out, because I had built up s*x to be a transcendent experience, and my first time wasn't. (I mean, it took years before I could enjoy it with another person, and I've still only enjoyed it with others a few times over the decades.) I know one film can't be everything but, like, it would be cool to have a movie where someone decides, "oh, actually s*x is not for me" and still has a fulfilling life and relationships. I'm a fifty seven year old male who recently discovered what asexual is and it describes me to a t. I've never been attracted to anyone and the one time I dated, I didn't know we were. A friend told me this woman liked to go to movies and I did too so we should go together, which is what we did. I was never attracted to her in a romantic or sexual way. We always paid for our own meals and tickets and didn't do what I considered couple things. Looking back I was never attracted to anyone. My way of avoiding the sex talk at work, worse for me since I work with military veterans, and they talk about nothing else. I just keep quiet, I'm quiet by nature, and they assume whatever they assume. Being in the Marines too I'm sure they think something happened at some point. No one has ever asked me though.

If it helps to know, you are not alone. My grandma has been having conversations with me about Asexuality and she feels it describes her to a t, too. She deliberately got married and had kids because she wanted to be a mom, but when her husband died in the war, she just never bothered ever again with relationships. She's been happy being on her own and has been in my life since I was born. She just turned 75 and is still going strong and happy. :)

My girl Srilatha is asking the REAL! Question 🤣. It was an honest question that I just HAD to google and came across the following! The male body has a system that keeps it from being able to ejaculate and urinate at the same time. The muscles at the base of the bladder contract in order to close off the passageway from the bladder into the urethra- which both pee and sperm share a same pathway. Also, You technically COULD pee while hard but it would take an effort.

I used to have sex on occasion when I was younger, but it was mostly just because it was something to do, especially when I struggled to connect with people or have any interest in them at all. We just rewatched mrs doubtfire, and while it has some upsetting moments, it made us cry. (In a good way) and honestly the upsetting parts seemed diagetic. The movie seemed to frame drag positively (Willaim's character gets a tv host gig educating kids while in Doutfire drag) while exploring how not fitting in stereotypical gender roles can very negatively affect people in divorce. And that in divorce, its important to make sure the kids are taken care of Also wario is an asexual icon so I love to find out he was going to be in this movie. Hate to find out he got cut

It was so relatable with the woman talking about fitting in. "...Yeah...Dat ass... ehhe" I am an asexual man and while guys (at least the ones I interacted with) wasn't nearly as bad as the guys in this movie, it was still fairly often it came up. It could be quite stressful, because not only did you have to respond, but also you couldn't always be the last to notice, so you had to be aware at all times and find a person who fit the definition of generally attractive and then mention it to the guys. I am SO glad that I am satisfied with who I am now and don't have to do that anymore. I usually tell people just that... that I am happy with my life. If they don't like it, well - not my problem.

Well not all Asexual people are like that, though. My sisters and I knew about the human body and sexuality and stuff because when you're about to have a baby sister be born you get curious. Mom told us stuff and we were paying attention in health classes and actually helping keep our sexually active friends safe because of knowing about it. I knew about the anatomy bit despite being Asexual. You can be Ace and know that. The human body is fascinating and weird and I don't personally think sexuality should stop people from learning about it.
