As someone who makes chainmail jewelry, to save your wrists, get some bend nose pillars. Also there's a ring you can wear that makes openning the rings easier. They will make your adventures move along faster and more comfortable 😊. Bravo on your first piece.

I was going to recommend the jump ring ring as well, I hope she sees this! I have no idea how they are not more popular, it also makes jewelry making generally so much easier!

As a chainmaille artist: welcome to the club!! When you get more comfy with euro 4-1, it won’t be that hard to jump to scale maille. Which I think is right up your alley… :3. The scales go in the euro 4-1 as some of the “rings” of the sheet. If you’d like to see a pattern for a bra piece (or extend it for a fitted shirt), I recommend the ring lord’s pattern. They do a good job with explaining the constrictions and expansion sections for their pattern. BUT!! I love that you’re getting into maille. Check out aspect ratios for weaves if you wanna delve deeper.

I have quietly squashed my desire to make chainmail for many years. You have inspired me to give it a try.
@bunhelsingslegacy35494 ай бұрын
For opening rings, my favourite way was to have an adjustable wrench in a vise and grab the ring with pliers, slot it into the wrench and twist. I also crocheted pliers handles cozies when I was getting close to blisters. I also make the 4-on-a-ring but then I connect them into a string so I know how long I'm making the thing, make a lot of strings the same length, then connect them together, it works better for my pattern recogntion brain. And as someone who makes and fights in steel plate armour, the best way to incorporate it into general wear is one piece at a time, maybe the gorget or some bracers. It would have to be a real emergency before I'd try to sit in a car in full plate. It's just too pokey and pinchy, even hugging your friends gets potentially dangerous if they're not also armoured. When we do costume armour, we tend to make it out of aluminum because if we make it in steel it''ll rust all over the wearer (no fun at all) who will generally not be wearing the thick cotton gambeson we wear under battle armour, and making it in stainless is heavier and also harder to work if you're going for fine details. We did figure out that with duct tape and the English Wheel we could do some interesting texturing that can come out like a jacquard pattern.

The first and second outfit are the prettiest in my opinion the second has nice color break up and both look nice to go out in. And everyone around you would probably wonder how they could get as cool as that. You do rock the chainmail. I've never really knew how it was made so it was nice to learn from your video. Really loved this video lovely work

The 2nd styled outfit is probably my favorite! I'd love to see you do a little ruching on the sides of that negligée. I think it would make it more wearable for your style and also make it fit you XD The story that the outfit made come to mind was like "Lady Knight who has been captured by misogynist villain who forces her to wear frilly clothes because WoMEN cANt Be kNIgHtS" or something like that. For the red Cherry Bomb fit, I think if you swapped the boots for some chunky black loafers and knee high sporty socks (either red or white), it would give the sportier energy you were missing. Probably my second favorite outfit!

I actually wouldn't mind making a chainmail thing. Although...my first concern is how to make attachable/detachable pockets for said chainmail thing, lol. I'm thinking sewing a little pocket-pouch out of fabric, and then making a little chainmail sleeve that the fabric pouch sits inside comfortably and is attached to at the opening, and those jump rings at the top of the pocket are also how the pocket would attach to the larger chainmail clothing piece. (And the reason there'd be chainmail around the pocket rather than just at the top of the pocket is just because chainmail is stronger than fabric, so having the pocket be reinforced would mean that it can carry heavier stuff. Might have it be just a chainmail bottom to the pocket and then a ring around the top, with chains connecting them on the sides, but full chainmail would be stronger.) And then if you don't feel like having pockets with the piece, just take them off and jump-ring the opening closed. But...really...who wouldn't want pockets? And of course, if you want *more* pockets, just open up more pocket gaps to attach more pockets to. Yes, having pouches that attach to the outside would be more practical. ... Why not both? ALL the storage space! (I *might* be a little of a pocket maniac, lol)

the four in one will be a bit harder with such a large aspect ratio, the best for a four in one is 4.0, lauren does a 5.0 (16swg 3/16” AR5.0 specifically). i also like to use chainmail joe, same as this video (you can see the logo in the top corner when the ring website is shown at the beginning), lauren uses the ring lord which used to all round five star reviews but all recent reviews i’ve seen have talked about their quality having gone down awfully in the last few years with rings missing chunks so they close in an oval shape and holes in scales being way off centre. i’ve found maille super easy but my friend found it terribly frustrating. her brother is now also obsessed with it so it’s not genetic
@phantasmicshenanigansps147711 күн бұрын
Just a little helpful tip, when I'm making maille I like to work on a square piece of EVA foam so I can pin my project down as I go, thus keeping everything from moving around

I've find that doubling the rings on the edge is the easiest way to clean an edge and prevent it from flopping around too much. Cant wait for you to discover scale mail
@sallyhazeldance4 ай бұрын
I never thought you would do that. ...Patience... For the first time you choose the best technique. And you did a pretty good job! For round, triangular or pointed forms I recommend the 3 in 1 technique. When you want to make your chainmail pieces lasting very long, use riveted rings.

This is amazing! Every piece looks so good! I have also ventured into casual chainmail territory, but I didn't really make it practical enough to wear out regularly 😬 My rings were tinier I think, making it a lot more effort to make and also heavy (nice for the weighted blanket feeling you mentioned, less nice bc it constantly shifted when I moved) - I did find out that the gorget goes nice over a sweater (as long as it's not tooooo oversized!) I will def try my hand at the crop top with the *_kilos_* of rings I still have left over!

(He was very impressed with how fast you got things down.) Also like.. You starting over from scratch half way through a project is The ChainMailler Way. Like magic cards, I find random chainmail projects everywhere in my house. I mean our 6 year old daughter who is just a magpie masking as a human child has a lot to do with why they're all over my house and not where he works on things.. But you know.---She comes by it honestly with me as her crow-brained artist mother..)

Absolutely love your style and quality of craftsmanship!! 😍❤️🔥🫂🙏👏🎉 You nailed this quite well right out the gate! I’ve always wanted to make my own pieces, but after watching a buddy try to make his own, and give up after having only a 8”x8” square because he felt like it was taking forever (he used it afterwards as a Pot Holder hehe)…I back burnered it to wait for the perfect time to try my own hand at it hehe. 🤷♂️😁 I think your design inspiration for that split skirt would look amazing and super sexy on you! 😍❤️🔥🔥 Much like your Intro Outfit! You should definitely try your hand at it! Though I feel like getting some of the adonized colored rings would really take it to the next level, as then you could achieve patterns, ombré esque fades, borders, etc…. PS, as a fellow crafty weirdo Maker from a rural town…let your Freak Flag fly loud and proud!! They are already going to be judging/looking anyway, that’s just small town life, but you can mold the narrative and blow them away with your awesomeness incarnate on Maximum Shine!! 😍❤️🔥🌞❤️🫂🙏🤘😁🤘
