Or just generally starts questioning their purchasing decision. Batman was inspired largely by Zorro, who is "typically portrayed as a dashing masked vigilante who defends the commoners and indigenous peoples of California against corrupt and tyrannical officials and other villains." And Batman is pretty much that, but for the fictional urban city of Gotham. And I don't know many people who don't like dashing vigilantes fighting for justice, even if they're broody. At least thats how Batman was originally portrayed, I know different writers/media have played around with the character.
