I’m sure that lots of people will tell you this, but the way the dress is made is designed to suggest removable collars and cuffs. This was common as this allowed for changing and laundering of these items more often. The same as men’s shirts.

I actually wound up doing that on Saturday, when I had to run to Joanns after an event. I just had the pantalettes, socks, and dress on, and got two compliments in the store. Lol

I need like.. a whole pattern for this. I would so cosplay Kirsten! I just got her in the mail today. She was discontinued before I even found AG as a kid, so now as an adult I found one in great condition for a reasonable (compared to $2k on eBay) price. I have bangs and want to cosplay her now 😂💖

I would suggest braiding the ribbon into the ends of the braids & tying it off that way. It's a bit more secure and it would be the traditional way of doing it. I know it's also the way Mexican Folkloric dancers work ribbon into their hair.

I wound up rewearing it this weekend, and got them much more secure, I waited till I had the wig on to loop them up, and that must have been the magic trick!

The medieval way is to sew the ribbon into the braids and hair by using a large yarn needle for the ribbon.

I really like the contrast of the gingham bonnet and striped apron with the calico print. I also adore the embroidered pocket. That’s super cute. I recently told my mom about watching a you make cosplays (I had to explain that, lol) of doll outfits to go with dolls, and she couldn’t believe I was watching anything involving dolls. I have quite a phobia even in my 50s, lol. I assured her I don’t look at the faces. I just focus on the explanation of the clothes. I got an eyeful of the doll from one shot at the end which gave me a shiver, lol. I just learn a lot about sewing and patterning and construction from your videos. You’re an excellent teacher. By the way, Dora is absolutely gorgeous and seems so sweet and loving. I’d love to give her pets 😻. Wonderful result! Well done you.

My fav parts of your videos are Dora. Dora and her begging for attention was super adorable. The dress turned out fantastic!! I did notice the collar issue at first like that was def not making it look nice, so im glad you were able to get it fixed and it looks much better on the final dress.

I made mine. Tbh, I find they are not nearly as comfortable/helpful with chubrub as bike shorts. I actually buy the cotton leggings from Old Navy and cut them off a few inches above the knee and wear them as bike shorts under all my dresses. Very comfy!

Maybe try the ligthest blue tint on the apron? Should cool down the red without making the white read anything other than white. Also that is a super cute outfit.

Good call on the collar, Kirsten's neck is 3x wider than yours so not a surprise the proportions came out a bit wonky, and I can't deal with tight collars either. Also I can't get over how cute Kirsten's bangs look on you. Oh and for keeping the braids in place, maybe put the ribbon through the braid where you need it to stay, maybe above a clear elastic? I'm guessing that's probably how they did it before elastics, I use yarn braided into my own hair to tie it (Morgan Donner did this too before the buzzcut).

the dress looks lovely, collar issue, I think the issue is that the opening for the neck comes Above your Collar bone, if you attach the collar normally, but cut that opening lower in the front, that choking issue should go away.

Your Kirsten Cosplay is beautiful! There are directions out there for how to do Kirsteńs Hairstyle. I don’t know if this information is on the American Girl Website, or some other website, but, I know I have seen them. I wish I remembered how it was done, looping those braids and securing them, but it was some time ago when I saw those directions.

Thanks! It's actually really easy to do her hair on the doll - you just tuck the ends up. But my wig has some layers to it, so the ends wind up being very long (and wig hair is heavy). I was able to secure it better when I wore it this weekend.

I think the issue with the collar was the neck hole was to high in the centre front. Dip by 5/8" would be more comfortable and retain height.
