You have no idea how on point this idea is for me! I have a DIY store so plenty of plywood scrap for this, and I've literally just been talking to my gf about if what we would want to put on our last wall - tile strips or wood strips, but this I can do myself with all the materials at hand! Really impressed by how this turned out:) Keep up the great/inspirational work! Who cares I'm 2 years late on this:P

I'm a tile guy by trade and a woodworker at heart that has just found his motto - 'the best wood is free wood'!. Thanks for this simple, cool look. The (as we call them in the U.S.) subway tile style is still one of my favorites after all this time :)

I love the sideways thinking. It looks awesome! It feels like a strange choice to me because it took way more effort to do, and that surface profile is going to make it inconvenient to clean. I thought we use tiles in kitchens because they're hard wearing, heat and moisture resistant, and relatively easy to clean. Bigger tiles means fewer grout gaps to clean. Then you go and add them back in!

Leo Jackouski I would say this is more art than function. I love the idea and the creative use of wood that would normally be scrap.

Hi Laura, I've been following you for some time now but I never dared to post a comment. I just wanted to thank you because you're proving with each of your videos that we girls can be makers, create things with our hands, love getting them dirty and globally do things that men """normally""" do. I find you so inspiring and given that I love crafting, DIYing and working with my hands, you're always a great source of inspiration because you're so creative, it's amazing! I wish one day I'll have your talent, you're a great motivation! Thank you for your content!! Tchüss aus Frankreich!

The tiles came out great! And even better since they were FREE! I'd say about 95% of the wood I use to make stuff is free wood from craigslist, a dumpster, or found on the side of the road. I love your idea Laura!

I love your thoughts and ideas out of the box and new. This may be one out of a hundred that I'm not as excited about. I'm not sure if its because of the love and look of glass, ceramic, & porcelain, water and fire resistance of other tile or my limited thoughts of where wood should go.

You're using plywood (glued together layers of wood sheets) as a backsplash behind a sink and a stove top. Water and fire (heat) usually don't play that well with plywood. I would not expect these to hold up very well over time especially with things like boiling water from the hobs putting a lot of steam and heat into the wood directly behind the stove causing lots of wood movement possibly wrecking the glue bonds in the wood. The effect is very good and it looks nice. But I would be interested to hear your thoughts on if you have taken the durability of the materials into account in your design? It might be an idea to look for another more appropriate material to use for the backsplash low down in just these areas so the entire design is more durable. Would be interested in your thought process on this. But do keep up the videos we don't seem to see enough of them these days and your style and editing work is top notch.

This reminds me of rustication on Mount Vernon, George Washington's home. Creating the look of stone, the siding was beveled pine tiles. While covered with a thick coat of wet paint, a layer of sand is thrown on. Honestly, I prefer your fresher approach.
