btw, from a technical perspective, the reason rethinking voxels has such nice shadows is this: the shrimple texturepack uses a simple shadowmap technique. this requires one rendering pass and is fps-friendly. any surface that isn't "visible" to a light emitter is shaded in shadow. so the light emitter is from a single point. this is the reason all the shadows are HARD shadows with no soft edge. however, in real life and in game, light sources have a surface area, they're not a single point. so as you get further away, there is a gradually decrease surface area of the light emitter that can "see" the surface, so you can notice that shadow edges get SOFTER as you get further away from the subject that the shadow is being cast by. a simple way to approximate this effect is called "percentage-closer soft shadows" and is a technique that rethinking voxels implements. you can notice that shadows get softer the futher away it goes, and its a clever sampling trick that's used. however, this does require you to sample the shading from an area around the shadow so it has an FPS cost.

@DarkmegaGaming26 күн бұрын
@@HannibalBeerus73 and thats the thing, "vanilla" is lacking for me. Doesn't matter how nice it looks. So making that point is moot. It might aswell be an art installation. You might say I've ruined the base game for myself, and you'd probably be right

@@lietuviserikas maybe I'm clueless, but with the amount of mods I use I often use the more conservative or low level presets if shader comes with them, but the amount of fps consumption is still visible enough to see a difference in how often I get a potentially destructive lag burst and such. in shrimple, play with the setting "penumbra" (I recommend something like 70%), it makes the shadows dissipate the farther it goes, makes the game look a little softer instead of the really sharp shadows everywhere BTW I highly recommend using the modpack fabulously optimized. I give up with this nonsense. After wasting an entire weekend trying to get this mess to work, I've come to realize that even if you were to download the exact version mods, as well as their dependencies, some of these mods simply refuse to work together. Perhaps you should specify that beforehand. I've never felt anger whilst modding a game before but after trying everything from modding for different versions of minecraft to swapping between forge and fabric. ngl- lowkey i kinda hate that the implication here is minecraft has to look realistic to be immersive, something needing to be realistic is a fundamental misunderstanding of what immersion is and it annoys me when people insist that's what makes immersion work. Immersion is about getting sucked into the world you're presented with, it's about having a world that- while it might not obey the laws of our world or look anything like it- is consistent in it's own story and design in a way that makes you feel like you're part of it while you spend time with it. i think minecraft is already immersive honestly- tho some of the old mobs need to be updated to have animations more on par with the new ones so the animation is consistent- but aside from that when i play minecraft i feel fully immersed in it's quirky and strange little survival world. Minecraft's immersion is near perfect for what it's going for. this isn't immersion- it's frying your computer to make minecraft look and feel like a completely different game (and also give people with motion sickness nausea with that camera mod). now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with wanting a mod-pack like this- but calling it more immersive is insulting to the vanilla game's art direction and intentions

make an update version of making Minecraft the scariest possible. I think it will do great with all the dwellers and herobrine mods out there

little tiles is also an amazing mod that has made my playthrough much more immersive

I'd like to see a whole gameplay with this. It would be so interesting to look at, even though your pc would problably blow up.

we all know the human eye can only see at 30 fps, so tanking your framerate with shaders is a very smart way to make it more immersive

For mobs, there is also Mobs Refreshed resourcepack that also has a version that supports Fresh Animations

Dude, I couldn't imagine even attempting this with my laptop. I had to pause the VIDEO to get it to load properly LMAO. Also, imagine this in VR. I would be tweaking.

Rethinking Voxels is probably in my opinion the best Vanilla+ Minecraft shader, but it really shines without resource packs, in the main game it goes to a whole another level.

rethinking voxels, the newest version that's compatible with distant horizons, does have dynamic handheld lighting. it has to be enabled in the "lighting" settings though.

Got this in my recommended recently. I haven't played Minecraft since like 18.9, as that's when Minecraft REALLY began to slow down. No updates, let alone game changing updates, for such a long time, servers were beginning to lose players, and many people like me were getting too old and busy with life to be playing Minecraft. I remember some time after I quite Minecraft they released 1.9, The End update I believe, but by then it was too late. I've occasionally seen from random thumbnails of videos I don't watch that there's been a TON of updates since 1.8.9, but I sort of feel like I can't go back, simply because of the amount I missed, and how different Vanilla Minecraft is. Also, I feel like it'd be kinda depressing, going back and trying to get accustomed to essentially an entirely different game than the one I know, but that might just be me.

It's funny because Minecraft is one of the most unchanged games. It honestly won't take more than 20 minutes of watching videos/ reading the wiki to be caught up lol. Even the main complaint about Minecraft is that they add almost nothing in their updates

Even turning down lava lighting, is truly feels real due to your computer overheating

Fun fact! If you set lava lighting to trace and then go to the Nether, your PC will emit a really immersive simulation of the Nether's temperature!
