There's a cool little documentary on YT about the restoration of that recording console. They tracked down the original designers and Abbey Road studio engineer to run the restoration, sourced new-old-stock parts where they could and actually spent months working with local manufacturers to build new parts to the original specs for stuff they couldn't get off the shelf. It is one of the most over the top electronic restoration I've ever seen, resulting in a restored console that's pretty much identical to its original "new" condition it had when it was first installed at Abbey Road.

You don't get rid of the serial number unless you don't want it identified. I'm not talking from experience. Pure common sense. Any collector is going to ensure a serial number is legible and intact, for resale, or just for collector's purposes. If that thing is gone, someone has said, I don't care anything about proving this is a proper Gibson. I want no trace of it back to where it belongs. It's probably a guitar stolen at a gig.

Regarding the 2008 Standard the article mentions that they took someone's best offer in it. Chances are that guitar just sat around for a while and got its watcher count over the months from people hoping for a price drop.

The great thing about those Ibanez bridges is that they don’t fall off when you remove the strings, and unlike most Les Pauls, you can’t accidentally raise or lower the bridge height

I’m currently building my dream strat with five pickups in it. Two invader humbuckers and three single coil hot rails. All gold hardware with locking tuners. Adjustable brass nut. Adjustable tension trem lock system. Roller saddles. Will finish it with a sealer and some red mirror vinyl for the top and black carbon vinyl for the back. I may do top binding. Also building a tele as well.

It's an illustration called The Ancient of Days by the 18th century London poet and artist, William Blake. Very popular in the 60s and 70s.

I really dig Les Paul guitars, but what Gibson calls a “AAA” top or however many “A’s” they give it typically don’t come close to what PRS or even Kiesel puts on their everyday instruments.

That's a bad Gibson inlay on the head-stock. I wouldn't call it an inlay because the wood isn't cut away around the lettering. The wood is cut out as a hollow shape and the name has to be glued or epoxied in.

The plain top is the kinda plain top I’d want as far as plain tops go it’s perfect to me I honestly think it’s the top on it. If it weren’t for the headstock repair it would’ve done been snatched up. I can’t be the only one who thinks it’s about as good as a plain top gets ?

Austin, you're certainly an expert on Gibsons but your knowledge of art is somewhat lacking. The naked lady standing on a seashell is a reproduction of _The Birth of Venus_ by Sandro Botticelli. Painted circa 1483, it is currently housed in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. As for the "lady reaching down," that is a reproduction of an engraving called _The Ancient of Days_ by William Blake. In 1794, William Blake, a British poet and illustrator, published a book called _Europe a Prophecy,_ which contained 18 plates (illustrations); _The Ancient of Days_ is the first, known as the frontispiece. Only nine copies of the book are known to exist, including one housed at Cambridge University in England. BTW, it's not a lady, it's a dude called Urizen. Blake invented his own mythology and Urizen is a god representing reason and law, though he is also a bad guy. He is shown on a flaming disc in a black sky, reaching down holding a compass with which he is measuring the void.

To me them super modified guitars with the horrible art work is very specific to the person that had all that garbage done, I don't think they'll have much luck selling those, especially at them prices, I just shake my head and laugh, same with the ancient mixer board, I don't care if God himself was recorded on that, it ain't 2.5 million dollars worth of anything lol, even if I was a billionaire that thing ain't nothing but a big boat anchor man ..

"Orange makes guitars?" Hey, one thing I learned in 1994 was that Marshall built both amplifiers and guitars themselves. The first musician I worked with long-term had one of those for his first electric guitar. It looked like a Stratocaster copy, but it had the Gibson-inspired hockey stick headstock. I think we all agreed that it cried "really cheap", even to me before I even knew anything about guitars.
