I Made Yakuza for The GameBoy!
Yakuza is one of my favourite game franchises of all time, so I decided to make a fangame for the GameBoy! I've seen a few people who make "GameBoy" games and it ends up being entirely clickbait, so I decided to take this concept, and do it properly. This was a bit of a challenge given all the limitations at hand, but in the end I'm super proud of this little game, and I hope you enjoy it too!

0:58 lmao that takes me back to early 2010’s KZbin of people placing random gameplay clips over stock images of the PlayStation Vita (called “NGP” at the time) 😂 Random fun fact about the Vita: there are Japanese-exclusive “Companion Apps” for Yakuza 0 and the original Ishin on the Vita, where you could play some of the mini games from each game, do Arena Battles (Y0’s app) or those Dungeon missions (Ishin’s app), and transfer money/items over from the Vita to a PS3 or PS4 copy.

7:05 OK, gotta nitpick: Kiryu theoretically doesn't kill. The "death" sprite should be them on their knees, or maybe doing a full kowtow begging for mercy. That'd be fun. Otherwise, love the pixel art and 'demake' music!

The amount of work that had to go into this 12 minites of content is insane. building an entire gb game, building a minigame in side it and only metioning it for like 30 seconds, and then creating an entire ad for the game... and im not considering editing so much work, but I am very grateful to be the one who can just sit back and relax and consume it. grade A content

Fair enough yeah, I was debating super early on if I should have a top-down overworld, like a "tiny kamurocho" and then it'd transition to street fights at points.

The gameboy yakuza series was really good, although when they turned into an rpg during the gba era it divided fans. I still like the shift in gameplay but it was pretty jarring after 3 yakuza gameboy games and 1 gba being focused around real-time fighting. However I heard the new DS Yakuza takes that RPG element and improves a lot of rough areas. I heard they even bring back Kiryu which is very welcome. But if anyone misses the old gameplay style, there are plenty spinoff's and another series made by the original team for the gba. I haven't played it yet, but I think there was an exclusive to japan game called "Yakuza DS : The cart with no name" which many have said is really good.

Well if Yakuza was on the gameboy, I can see it just be like a more downgraded Rent a Hero for Genesis, or something like Yu Yu Hakusho Dai 3 on the GB, or a mix of the two. But that might be to complex and a long project to do. But awesome work.

This looks so cool, especially the final segment. This made me start to imagine how a more fleshed out version of the game could go. Exploring the streets of Kamurocho on a top-down perspective like Pokémon, then getting into the 2d combat when facing enemies, kind of like Zelda 2, but on the streets. Of course, I didn't consider the limitations of actually making the whole thing, but this was really fun to watch.

I'm curious how an original Zelda style would work. Smaller sprites but an open style map. A to Attack, B to Block, A+B would be Heat, which would essentially be a Screen Flicker and wipe out enemies or just deal massive damage to every enemy on screen.

I’ve had a similar idea to this for a while. Except it’s supposed to look like a Genesis game, you explore the world in an old school Pokemon Chibi style and the combat is similar to Streets of Rage

I dont think there'd be any problems, as far as i know, sega is super lenient with fangames, especially Sonic ones. Nintendo is more notorious for taking down ones tho lol.
