I Make a Milling Micro Vise

Today I will make a small machine vise.
A vise (American English) or vice (other English-speaking countries) is a mechanical apparatus used to secure an object to allow work to be performed on it. Vises have two parallel jaws, one fixed and the other movable, threaded in and out by a screw and lever.

You'd probably want it with mini lead soft jaws so it wouldn't mar the soft metals common in jewelry

@@commoncents7330 most vices or clamps we use are steel. The trick is not overtightening to the point of marring the metal. Some tools are brass lined to prevent that issue, like you said.

Okay this has to become a series. Mini machining tools. Make a mini magnetic chuck. Make a set of mini calipers. Make a mini ratcheting drill press. Find a tiny motor and make a mini grinder or belt sander that uses belts that you have to cut yourself.

I have never seen the multimeter continuity trick before, that's genius. I wouldn't be surprised if it's common in machining, I just never would have thought of it

@@testi2025 I just checked my Sherline mill because I was curious as well. The resistance from the bed to the spindle is so high that it is basically isolated. It is anodized aluminum on anodized aluminum with a film of oil between them. I guess that is enough for it to work when all the parts stack up.

@@johndoh9121 Nah, I know shops that do that all the time. It's such a light touch that I'd be shocked if that could damage the tool. Plus it was only aluminum.

It’s a lot of fun seeing functional tools/objects being made on the micro scale and not just a molded/cast model..the precision along with the planning needed for these to work seamlessly is underrated for sure..even with a mill or lathe it’s still extremely impressive..great job, hopefully we get some more micro tools here in the near future

Mixing the backwards clips with the normal ones at the start was like dragging a woodscrew over a chalkboard for me. They look amazing on their own, but having them together like that made my brain rebel. Neat effect, even if I don't want to feel it again.
