Hi I am using kelp for basket but would really like to try to make it stronger and make leather. Is there a link or page where you share the process more in details? Thanks

Hi!! Sorry due to IP reasons I can't share my process but I have shared lots of other resources on my website, also some resources for making bioplastic from seaweed. As for kelp, a lot of indigenous people will sew it wet and then let it dry and harden, and treat it with oils to improve the flexibility.

You could make a plane out of that. Kelp leather on a metal or wood frame. Well, at least a model plane.

it's a bird! It's a plane! It's a...dank seaweed creation? Haha in all honesty, I am doing a residency right now where I might build samples like what you're describing :)

@@KathrynLarsen the typical material for model airplane coating is varnished rice paper, and I figure kelp would have much the same properties. Kites would be another possibility. Tried varnishing kelp?

@@appledane julia lohmann has, actually! I suggest taking a look at her work, you're definitely right that this would be a good rice paper substitute :)
