I never heard of Joan Davis or this series. Thank you for posting!! 😂 She is wonderful

As should be very apparent here, Joan Davis was a talented dancer as well as the funniest comedienne ever to grace the screen. She could also sing.

I am so glad you have these online. About 6 or 7 years ago, this show was on about 1am here every night. That's how I discovered it - I'd stay up every night to watch it. I was saddened when they took it off the air. So I'm excited to be about to find it on KZbin! Jim is great in his role. It's sad that most people only know him as Mr. Howell and don't realize just what a talented, accomplished actor he really was. Thank you for sharing these with us!

Yes, Lovie! Jim Backus also did some great vocal characterizations on Merrie Melodies/Looney Tunes cartoons, and, of course, was famous as the voice of Mr. Magoo!

Yes Jim Backus needs to be credited for his work on I married joan.sadly I married joan is seldom seen on TV unlike Gilligan's Island which is why he has suffered an unjust fate to be remembered for solely Gilligan's Island

That jitterbug dancing Joan does in this episode is just another one of her acrobatic and comedy dances she has done in her career over the years which can be seen is many of her old films......she's the best!

Thanks so much for all your support. Have you looked at our Joan retrospective on the Joan Davis Channel page? It chronicles her very first appearance in "Way Up Thar" to almost her last in the Pilot "Joan of Arkansas." There was an additional pilot "The Joan Davis Show" which is available for viewing at UCLA Film/TV Library. Thanks again.

@@ciroandsteven2407 The famous Joan Davis "skid routine" she has done in films and TV episodes has to be the most clever and funny piece of comedy I've ever seen. In the Joan Davis "My Swiss Hilly Billy" number from a film in 1937 shows her remarkable ability at humorous acrobatics doing the routine several times. PRICELESS!

You know guys, whenever I see these gems my eyes get moist at what inflation has done to us. When I was in 7th grade back in 1964, lunch in the school cafeteria was 35 cents, a cone of ice cream was 5 cents, an Aurora monster model was 89 cents a jar of peanut butter was 59 cents and a trip to the movies (lodges!) was 75 cents. Would anyone like to join me in a good cry?

When originally broadcast, IMJ had a few different openings, some were like what you see in "Career," some had a bird's eye view of Joan through the kitchen window going into the refrigerator (sponsor GE), and others had a few scenes from the particular episode the titles preceded. Look at "Model," and you'll see an actual original of this type. We have recreated this type of opening to perhaps spark a memory of the episode's content. The "Wedding Cake" titles came later, in syndication.

Hey, hey, hey! Take it easy, will you, boys? There's only ONE cook, ONE waitress and she just happens to be both! You can't expect her to work the way you expect her to work if you're going to be jerks about it and not give her the time she actually needs! Wait! Or would you boys like to get up off of your bony rear ends and fix the rest of your meals yourselves? Now give her a break! And as for you, Judge Stevens, don't you think you're overdoing it? Your wife is dying in there and she needs help, YOUR help! And you know she needs help! Don't just stand there, help her! Either tell the boys to lay off of her or put on an apron and pitch in! I don't care which, but do something! Drop...the damn...act! I know this is only a sitcom, but that's how I feel. I'm on Joan's side.
@robertfiller86344 жыл бұрын
I felt like that watching it; however, afterwards I thought about it and realize it was done to highlight Joan Davis' comedic talents which are beautifully on display as she is worn to a frazzle trying to keep up with the demands put upon her.....something like Lucille Ball stomping grapes or at the chocolate factory.
