I love Joan's version of Bette Davis with the cigarette!

Richard Reeves, Elvia Allman and Kaye Wiley who appeared in this "Joanie" episode, also appeared in numerous "Lucy" episodes. Elvia Allman is a favorite of mine. She usually played a single middle age woman who spoke perfect English in not just in Lucy and "I Married Joan" episodes, but other classic TV shows from "The Golden Age of Television". Elvia Allman's most famous role on television, was the no nonsense forewoman in the candy factory in the "I Love Lucy" episode, "Job Switching.

For those accusing Lucy and Joan of "stealing" from each other, I doubt it had much to do with the stars themselves, and it's unlikely to have been looked at as stealing. Television shows of the '50's and '60's shared a lot of the same people behind the scenes, so it was only natural that some plot ideas turned up on more than one show. I notice that Al Simon, one of the producers of "I Love Lucy" in its first season, went on to be one of the "I Married Joan" producers for two of its seasons. Marc Daniels was a frequent director for both shows early in their runs.

Richard Reeves also appeared in numerous "I Love Lucy" episodes. He had a gruff Brooklyn accent. Richard Reeves died in 1967 at the age of 55.

I have this on a VHS tape that I bought in the 1990s that contained the pilot, this and the business executive episode. They deleted many of the parts where Joan tries on different dresses that are either too big or too short to the women at the dress shop on that tape so possibly the episodes are the syndicated episodes since they have the Weiss Global logo at the end.

drummerbraves Yes, Weiss Global issued edited prints. In some cases, like this one, we were able to find the additional footage and edit it in. Thanks for watching!

I hunted this episode down because I'm trying to find whatever I can on Connie Vann (sometimes spelled Van). She had an unexpected death in 1961 after playing characters often shown as unfortunate, most memorably the non-social "poor Grace" in The Long, Long Trailer" with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Today we'd call the character Grace autistic spectrum, but poor and pathetic was the portrayal then. Thanks for finding this. The research on the short lived Ms. Vann continues.

We made a typo on Jane Easton. Sorry. The skinny shopper is actually Connie Vann, and yes, she played Joan's housekeeper/maid named Carrie in episode 2, "Career." Jane Easton was a model who was also in "Career" as the petulant "Magic Mop" girl in the commercial segment. She appeared as a nasty model in "Model." Richard "Dick" Reeves was the burly attorney. He appeared in "Joan's Haircut" as Butch Henderson and "Dancing Lessons" as the burly dance hall thug. Thanks for watching!

Did the 2nd shopper, Jane Easton, in this episode also play a housekeeper in either the pilot ep or one of the first few eps of "Joan"? She looks familiar. Many of the support cast also appeared several times in the earliest Lucy episodes; un this ep the tall burly attorney in court when Joan interrupts court played a thug type character in sev. Lucy eps. & others of that tv era.
