Joan Davis was a well established comedic actress when she starred in "I Married Joan." She found success in Vaudeville, radio and films, having worked with the likes of Eddie Cantor and, Abbott & Costello. She was cnsidered the prototype for Lucille Ball. In 1961 Joan died at age 53 from heart trouble. Two years later a devastating house fire claimed the lives of Joan's mother, daughter and two grandsons. The fire was believed to have been the result of smoking in bed..

In every way that really counts, Joan Davis is one of the most attractive women to grace our screens. Folks will say she had a face for radio, but Ms. Davis was a physical force of nature on the screen with few peers as a physical comedienne. Her impeccable feel for comic timing had few rivals. She was a natural on-screen, creating palpable chemistry with her opposites in comedy such as Lou Costello and Jim Backus. Taken from us too soon, Joan Davis is a beauty of many dimensions captured for the ages- and sometimes flat on her face, but never flat on delivery.
