Long post ahead, but I'm going to use this video as an excuse to post about everything I've learned about Wilson over the past few weeks in a single place, since this is the most recent and popular video about Wilson I can find. In any case, Wilson has the potential to be quite an interesting choice when optimized and planned for, he works really well with a Varg Farm and wants to/can visit the Lunar Island early for a few reasons, and he can make tons of Gunpowder for some cheesy shenanigans, and has a handful of other advantages as well: 1 Log -> 2 Twigs makes Evergreens better at producing Twigs than Twiggy Trees, meaning you can choose to focus on farming Evergreens instead for a superior Log + Twig farm, it makes Bearger/Deerclops give you a ton of Twigs if you think about it in that way. 3 Rocks -> 1 Flint means that Stone Fruit farms now also effectively produce Flint, which is useful for mass producing Cobblestones for making mega bases and other niche items you might need on occasion for some odd reason. 2 Gold -> 1 Nitre allows you to turn a surplus of Gold from a variety of sources such as Pig King, into Gunpowder which is nice to have for your Stone Fruit farm and for certain "other" situations... like blowing up bosses, because it's fun to do wacky stuff like that sometimes, and Wilson is really good at making lots of Gunpowder for a multitude of reasons I'll state shortly, and blowing up bosses that deserve it like the Crab King is really satisfying. 2 Cut Stone -> 1 Marble means that Stone Fruit farms now also produce Marble, which is much preferable to Marble Beans which take forever to grow, take much longer to individually harvest, and all for a low surplus of Marble. This is nice for decorating your mega base with different kinds of floors and statues, and the occasional Marble Suit for a friendly Wolfgang since he can use one without suffering the -30% speed penalty, niche but nice to have when you are playing with a Wolfgang. 2 Marble -> 1 Moon Rock offers an additional method of obtaining said Moon Rocks without needing to do the Moon Stone event over and over again, at effectively 12 Rocks per 1 Moon Rock, which can be situationally useful perhaps if you like the aesthetics of Moon Rock Walls mixed with Ancient Stonework and Thulecite Walls, but primarily for creating the Brightsmithy Spark Ark crafts, those being the Polar Bearger Bin, the Ice Crystaleyezer, and the Howlitzer. All the Gem Transmutations are useful for converting excess Red/Blue Gems from Varg Farms into surplus useful magical items and not just the Iridescent Gem, which let's you skip having to do the Moon Stone event to access the Archives meaning you can rush it early before Day 11 if you like that sort of thing. Varg Farms aren't that hard to make if you know what you are doing, there are simple ones that characters that are not Winona can use that are perfectly serviceable, in fact I would recommend making one as a Wilson specifically for his ability to transmute Gems on top of them also giving Hound Teeth which is the ammunition for the Howlitzer, and infinite Monster Meat too for a source of Rot and extra Eggs. 1 Meat -> 2 Morsels allows you to turn nearly spoiled Meat into 2 fresh Morsels, which you can then feed to a bird to get 2 Eggs instead of only 1 per Meat, useful for making Pierogi and specifically Bacon & Eggs since it is Wilson's favorite food which makes it more hunger efficient as a result. And if you aren't planning on eating the Meat and want it to become Rot, you can double your Rot by turning it into Morsels first, or Eggs for Rotten Eggs which are worth double the Compost nutrients when fertilizing, which is also useful for mass producing Gunpowder. 2 Hound Teeth -> 1 Bone Shard (alongside 6 Rot -> 1 Manure to a lesser degree) is an additional, arguably easier method for making Buckets-o-poop compared to hammering Spoiled Fish which is just tedious. Again with the Varg Farm, you have an endless supply of both Hound Teeth and Monster Meat to make Rot with, making this both a good source of Manure nutrients for farming and also for making Mushlights/Glowcaps for when building your mega base, while also having a tiny bit of team support by helping out a Warly make some Bone Bouillon which is like upgraded Meaty Stew but way cheaper and easier to make not requiring any Meat, it's niche but nice to have access to a steady supply of Bone Shards for this reason, it lets you divert more of your Meat resources into mass producing way too much Gunpowder which, in terms of game feel, feels like a very "Wilson" thing to do. Level 3 Beard Insulation means you can optionally forgo a Thermal Stone with some kind of insulating clothing during Winter to save an inventory slot, while Beard Hair Storage gives you up to 3 more (food) slots to work with on top of that, it's niche but also just kind of nice to have a few extra slots for things. Also, your beard slots let you hold onto meat items without angering Bunnymen. For alignment perks, I think Lunar Innovator is better than Shadow Courtier because of how quickly Wilson can speedrun the Lunar progression from crafting his own Iridescent Gem just from killing Dragonfly. Being able to create Pure Brilliance from 3 Infused Moon Shards is also very beneficial, more so than being able to make Dreadstone from 3 Pure Horror, considering that there are many more uses for Pure Brilliance (like all those late game Brightsmithy Spark Ark crafts) than Dreadstone which has comparatively few uses. This is despite Dreadstone having a second source to be obtained from beyond Shadow Rifts in the form of the Nightmare Werepig, and there being no equivalent secondary source for obtaining Pure Brilliance beyond Wilson's ability to just make some, which makes it a very unique and desirable trait to have. Mostly, Wilson offers the ability to perform progression in a different order that what could be described as the "standard experience" if you wish to do so. Most hardcore players will rush Ruins to get the materials needed to do the Moon Stone event before the first Full Moon on Day 11, but Wilson can choose to rush Dragonfly and skip over the Ruins and go straight to the Archives to start working on Lunar progression right away instead. Overall, most people consider him the "boring generic" character because his upsides aren't really big obvious upsides, they just enable you to do things in a different order and enable you to experiment with niche strategies and different routes. I like Wilson, he seems really fun and underappreciated by the wider community, he offers something unique and that is really cool. EDITS: small grammar and formatting corrections.

Those times you were on a boat, you should have just intentionally rowed too fast. You get water splashed on you and it reduces your temperature.

You can keep yourself cool in summer by using a thermal stone and watering can. Fill the can in a pond, carry a torch on you. When your thermal goes from white to blue, put the thermal down by anything flammable and set it on fire. Then put out the fire with the watering can and continue watering until your thermal turns white again. If there's nothing flammable nearby, drop a twig and set it on fire, then use the can. It's the cheapest and easiest way to stay cool when exploring in summer.
