It's time to forget about normal mode. On hard you have lower heart drops but more rooms overall. That means more keys/bombs/etc. Not to mention final goal is all completion marks on hard

great to see you found the alt path! without spoiling, there is a "side quest" that you'll need to complete throughout the path in order to open that red door you saw after finishing the mom fight, tho i'd recommend getting to 879 coins on the greed donation machine beforehand since the first part of the quest can be much more difficult otherwise. all the relevant stuff happens at the 2nd part of every chapter (downpour II, mines II...) so you don't have to worry if you don't happen to have a key to the downpour on basement I, or 2 bombs for the mines on downpour II; however you WON'T be able to go to mausoleum if you cant open the door on mines II so make sure to do so (there is a door to mausoleum on depths I, so while you can enter from there, dephts I happens at the same time as mines II so that implies that you're not doing the quest anymore). an important thing to note is that you need the mirror on downpour II, so bombing it will lock you out of the quest (funny how immediately trying to blow it up is such an instictive reaction xD)

Ok so about the "alt" floors : First of you need a key to enter the downpoar this can be done on the first or second floor, then you need to walk into the white flame but be warned this turns you into the lost and you will die from one hit of damage. Then you need to enter the mirror and in the mirror "dimansion" you have to go back to the item room where you will find the first pice of the "knife" then you kan walk back trough the mirror again and now you are done with that and once you face the boss on that floor you will now see a new door. This door needs 2 bombs to open and now you are in the mines. In here the first floor is normal but on the second one you will have to locate and press some buttons too unluck the railtracks in the minecart room on that floor in there you will find the second pice i wont spoil what happens here but once you have the whole knife and finnish the boss on that floor a new door opens on that floor it needs some hearts to open just walk against it 3 times and youre trough. And from here you are on your own buddy. good luck xD

So on these 'alt' floors, item/treasure rooms always have (at least) a choice of 2 items. You will be able to see what one is(if you don't have that floor curse), but the other item is always unknown. It's nice to have for when you don't like the first item, or when you are just feeling lucky

Beyond Mom's foot, it (usually) really does not matter if you have a half empty heart - everything does a full heart damage, so a half heart is exactly the same as a full heart (until you pick up another half). In fact, it's actually beneficial to have a half heart there for polaroid/negative triggering on half a red heart remaining, since it won't trigger when you have just one full heart left(and you are still one hit away from dead) You wasted a lot of bombs here to get that half heart filled up every time

So, that was an "Alt" floor, it has its own side quest with new final boss, that is how you can get to it: first of all, on downpour 2, you should jump in a white fire to become a ghost (Character The lost), and then you should go in the mirror and take knife piece 1 in treasure room, but be careful because while you are a ghost you can die at one hit (you can get a holy mantle effect if you donated 867 or something like that coins in greed), then, i will give you an advice, do a full map clearing at mines 2, there you need to press three yellow butons then jump in a minecart (the rest is up to you (i don't want to spoil what there will be)), and after you take knife piece 2 you will get a knife orbital, after beating mom's foot in mausoleum, throw knife at the meat door, there will be a mom's heart and after killing it you don't need to do anything special, just go to the next floor and you will see).

Since you've found Dark Room, you should try to complete it before doing anything else. Then, after you beat it, try to beat the first floor in under a minute. After that, bomb the first room in the first floor, and you'll get something special. Keep the special item, and DO NOT DROP IT. Proceed to boss rush (having the item makes the boss rush timer infinite; you can take as much time as you want.), and grab the second half of the something special. Take this completed gift to the Dark Room, and find an odd patch of dirt on the ground. Try to dig this up, and you'll find someone new.

Azazel is a good character at the start but it tends to be pretty bad for late game areas like the dark room and the alternative path you just went on for the first time. Having to be on enemies faces to shoot is worse than having normal tears, usually.

you might know this by now but that white fire you saw on downpour II turns you into a ghost with no hp but unlocks the holy mantle at 879 coins donated to the GREED donation machine (i dont advise becoming a ghost without mantle unlocked due to being one hit at all times) but if you enter the mirror as the ghost you enter the mirror dimension which is the same as the regular one but some enemies are flipped back up (the enemies you could see only the reflection of) and you can defeat the boss for a second item and the treasure room has an item required to fight a new boss 👀

on the mines II floor if you find three buttons around the map they will activate the rails to a room with a minecart in it, itll make a glistening like noise when completed, you can then hop in the minecart and itll lead you to somewhere new where you can get the second (and last) item to fight that new boss.
