Mega dose," you say? Well, if we're talking SI units, a mega-dose of melatonin would be 10^6 mg-which, unless you're trying to time-travel to the next calendar year in one nap, seems a bit extreme. But if we're getting technical, a "mega dose" isn't just about sheer quantity-it’s about potential of action. Like midi-chlorians for the pineal gland, a smaller dose might still pack a Jedi-level punch depending on receptor sensitivity. That said, if you’re Finnish, I trust your sleep science as much as I trust your memes and Star Wars takes. Just don’t start calling 40 mg a “giga dose,” or I’ll have to pull out my TI-84 and settle this like a true mathematical Sith Lord.

My experience with 10 mg of sustained release melatonin is like 10% of users: actually waking up earlier than without. I did some digging and it has to do something with the quick drop in levels during the night which makes for a quicker stronger cortisol Spike. So basically I wake up after 6 hours and unable to fall asleep again. Think the industry needs to Make triple layer tablets haha. If anyone has a hack to sustain it longer, please tell me. @@jasononblast I'd believe it, when I was going through kratom withdrawal from 2 ounces a day I was taking up to 100mg. It's probably not a good idea long-term though. Apparently getting sun raises melatonin, but not the kind that makes you sleep your pineal gland produces, but it's more the whole body anti-oxidant. It's the same melatonin, it just works differently, so sun isn't just for vitamin D. That explains why it feels better to get sun versus supplementing vitamin D.
@Forever_Laura
@Forever_Laura 6 күн бұрын
@@brians1793 The sun does actually help in the production of the sleepy type of melatonin. First sunshine helps the body produce serotonin which is then later converted into melatonin 💪
@brians1793
@brians1793 6 күн бұрын
@@Forever_Laura Makes sense, also in the sense that the sun is crucial for circadian rhythm, but that's more to do with the eyes than the skin, but it's important for that throughout the day and not just later. That's why people should minimize wearing sunglasses. I don't recall ever knowing serotonin converts to melatonin, but I did know l-tryptophan does and also converts into 5-htp, which raises serotonin when you supplement that iirc. So the relation makes sense. The sun is so important though for so many things, it's sad that the government has people afraid of it, and dermatologists blatantly fear monger about skin cancer when most of it is harmless and they don't want you to know that. Most sun screen is toxic, as if blocking vitamin D raising risk of worse types of cancer wasn't bad enough, but then recently realizing it does the same for melatonin and probably more than even that.

You missed the most important point here. Taking a high dose of melatonin for 30 days would leave you having difficulty getting to sleep when you stopped using it. This would remain until your body re adjusted itself back to normal

That is not true , there is no negative feedback loop for melatonin , taking high doses actually improve mitochondrial function and will help correct a melatonin metabolism even after stopping supplementation
@EtienneLeBoeuf
@EtienneLeBoeuf 5 күн бұрын
@williamdias3456 The secretion of melatonin is regulated by a negative feedback loop. It may have benefits but as correctly stated by the sleep foundation, an organisation comprising the worlds sleep experts, long term use of melatonin, at any dose, may lead to decreased effectiveness and impact your natural melatonin production. Many longevity gurus state how they have improved their sleep scores yes they have by using a sleep aid. They have used artificial means to improve their sleep scores and have become reliant on these artificial means to maintain improvement. Creating imbalances

Haha you are clueless 10mg is standard dose. Mega dose is in the ranges of 100-200mg to grams of the stuff. I take 100mg to sleep it works great.

Who defines what a megadose is? His definition makes sense, he clarified it so why argue about it? Just share your believe, opinion or experience. Don't argue over arbitrary definitions.
@cajampa
@cajampa 6 күн бұрын
@jozefwoo8079 He can make up and define his own terms. But it would be wrong if other have been in this field for a very long time talking and researching this stuff. And defined what a mega dose is already. And 12mg is not a mega dose of melatonin. = he is wrong. A mega dose start at 50-100mg and goes up to several grams. He is beginner at this and by calling 12mg a mega dose, exposes him as clearly not knowing what he is talking about. I am not sharing any beliefs. This is well threaded topic. He just don't know it. So he makes up his own terms and to click bait people who knows even less than him. He didn't take 40x dose. He took 1x dose. Not very special is it? He didn't want to explore the actual mega dose ranges so he made up that 12mg is a mega dose. But actual mega dosea have actual real life applications. So he is steering people wrong when he mixes up the concepts. For people who actually can benefit from actual mega doses of this stuff.
@cajampa
@cajampa 6 күн бұрын
@@jozefwoo8079 Just to be extra clear what I don't like is that he is mixing up the concepts when mega doses of this have real important clinical applications. So if someone have heard they can benefit from a mega dose and then see this video they can wrongly assume that taking 12 mg will give them those benefits. Mega dosing this is its own topic. What he did was taking a very standard dose. He is confused and he is confusing people, when he mixes up the concepts of a very standard and common dose of around 10-12mg. And the actual mega doses people are using that have their own extended benefits. And yes like he said higher doses have their own possible side effects. But for some people those possible side effects are more than worth it, for the benefits they get in the actual mega dose ranges.

@@cajampa YOU cannot define the terms for others because YOU believe a megadose is more than 12mg. There aren't even recommended daily intakes established for melatonin. The dictionary AND the scientific community define a megadose as follows: "Megadoses are described as the consumption or administration of nutrients in supraphysiological doses that exceed the recommended dietary ration ten or more times.". Depending on the recommendation and the target of treatment (jetlag, insomnia, etc) doses as low as 0.3mg are suggested by experts. As Siim specified VERY clearly (even in the thumbnail), he is taking 40x the dose that the body produces (which is the supraphysiological part of the definition). Now if you want to say that higher doses are better, then by all means please do share (with evidence preferably). Just don't make unnecessary drama over your interpretation of a megadose not aligning with his equally valid interpretation. This is all pretty new science and there is no hard evidence or well defined standards. Just recommendations by certain experts based on general research which might still be debunked later.

@@cajampa you are defining your own terms. Check the dictionary for the meaning of megadose and then check what is generally recommended for sleep. Usually that is between 0.3 and 1mg in many countries. Feel free to share your experience with higher doses but chill about the definitions and it's certainly no reason to laugh at him. There is no one correct interpretation and it's certainly not yours.
