I had some luck with the cap at the top left by the connector by snipping the legs, removing the body, and then going at the pads from the bottom left. It was all a bit pukka radish. You should put some soldermask on the burn mark, the substrate can sometimes be conductive when it's burned. 21:38 Daaaaaaad

Nice video Kip. I love restoring Game Gears. Glad you tried and enjoyed using the hot air. Next time be brave and put the SMDs on with hot air, it's so rewarding watching them jump onto their pads. One last thing, as you use Retrosix, why not design a shell print using your mascot and logo. They only cost a fraction more than a blank shell and you could even give it away in an upcoming episode - as you hinted at last week. Keep up the good work and you can never do too many Game Gears.

Yes I watched the full video it was pucker radish. You should try the hot air for installing those smd caps, it's pretty easy. The only thing I might have done differently is to attempt to clean the sound board with some white vinegar but I'm not sure how well it works on dried cap juice.

Hi Kip would you like to have a go at fixing a Xbox one controller with no power? I may of accidentally pulled some of the wires off of the main board when I took it apart to see if it was something I could fix. I was going to sell on eBay but I thought I’d offer to give it you, as you might like a change from game gears 😊
