Oooooh NOOOOO! That was such a huge mistake but thank you for posting it and not cutting it off and continued after actually replacing the head gasket & putting it back together pretending like it was all one perfect video with no mistakes. I always tell people, replace all freeze/core plugs. Yet I failed to do that on the cylinder heads for my 91 4Runner 4x4 3vze, manual drive. It happened to be that the rear freeze plug on the right hand cylinder head started leaking coolant after 3 months on the engine I rebuild my self. I swear, those freeze plugs looked fairly new, nice & shiny. It corroded into a pin hole from the inside out. Both heads came off. I repeated half the work all over again & those engines are such a pain on the ass to work on. So I feel for you bro. A very expensive mistake can also be made from recording the work process & talking at the same time. I decided to record my work & edit later adding voice instructions. I just have to put it all together in a neat edited version but I will include any mistakes I have done as well, like the freeze plug mistake I mentioned. Maybe one day I will have the courage to post it but under a different KZbin account name lol. I recorded the rebuild process on my 91 MIata engine; currently recording my 89 mustang 5.0 engine rebuild process. After that will be a rebuild for my 79 El Camino or an LS swap into it. I would first rebuild the LS motor first. But I still haven't had the time to edit or post anything.

Any one who does their own work has had a similar issue. I know I have, it’s worse when someone else does it. I had a shop push my truck off the rack into the parking lot with the trans out. Well the driveline was still connected to the axle and it twisted up in the wire harness, ripped it apart. I was pissed, shop was too lazy to pull drive line all the way. One of the very few times I had a shop do work. I learned to do it myself after that. Harness spliced back together, but it’s damaged.

I did the same thing on a 22RE a long time ago. I was soo pissed at myself. I just towed the truck over to a buddies shop and had him do it. I felt like a dumbass. Sometimes we rush ourselves when we are too comfortable...

Who made your adapter? I used the system that Jeff Kerr Acme Adapters package where I use a modified Toyota flywheel, disk, pressure plate and starter from the Toyota. The clutches are a lot more stout and less expensive than a VW assembly that will hold the power that these engines can make. I did have to design and make a clockable starter that fits the Toyota bellhousing and clears the VW exhaust and turbo setup.

ouch thats not fun. I made a worse mistake by putting a piston in backwards while building my bmw diesel. Had to take the head back off but fortunately the engine was still on the stand. I have no excuses. There were no distractions and i was taking my time. I spotted the problem while looking at pictures i took of the engine that night. It was an expensive metal head gasket and i reused it but put in another set of head bolts

haha shit happens man! it happens to all of us :) we learn from silly mistakes. Can't wait to hear it start up. ps just a curious idea, what do you think about putting a PD130/150 (pump duse, individual electronic injectors) cylinder head on it? I read it has stronger internals, gives better fuel economy and will make the engine look so much cleaner. I don't know if the wiring harness is the same tho. It would be a cool idea to see you do that in the future :)
