Why they going this far into the past?? I miss og assassins creed fuck... at least make one some time after origins... what’s the point of making an origin and then goin back to when the creed wasn’t even established?🙄👌🏼 Shi what happened to Ubisoft Montreal.. they had somethin real... you right tho, jus something about being an actual hooded assassin in a urban city hits... learning about the ancient civ in a older civilization of its own.. the parkour system was best even then

Actually I understand the story better after having played Odyssey and Origins. The first one explains the connection with the Izu and their relationship with humankind, the second explains how the Creed is created. For me Bayek is descendant from Cassandra, when she sends her son to Egypt, to descend herself to Hell (Hades) and raise to Heaven (Atlantis) to find the answers. It helped me to understand why these artifacts are so important for Abstergo and the Order, and the immense power they hold. For me the best about Odyssey, besides graphics, etc, is the option to make your own choices; actions and dialogue have consequences, rather than only one storyline.

*Patrice Desilets (Assassin's Creed Creator), stated:* Desmond was to appear in six games. In the 5th games, Desmond have mastered the ability to look back in time of his DNA however he will it without relying on the Animus (like Subject 16 but mastered the bleeding effects), Desmond can travel back in time on how to stop the end of the world tracking the clues left behind by "the one who came before". Throughout 5th game, Desmond sees the neccessity of having a Templar along side the Assassins. Having "free will" to give people the freedom they wanted, and having "control" to maintain the world from hurting others. The Templar and Assassins both witnessed Desmond's beliefs, commitment, ability and skills which made them believe: Desmond, is the new world order. In the 6th game, Desmond managed to united the Assassins and Templar to save the world. Although, there are minor group of Templar (loyal to the old Templar order) believe in the death of many to rule the new world order and against Desmond. These minor group of Templar is following someone's teaching of "those who came before" but not sure who, possibly Juno. They (the united Assassins and Templar) declaire Desmond as a Grand Master of both party. They defeated the loyalist and stopped the armageddon. After the 6th game, the rest of the series are just suppose to be about tieing up loose ends like: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Rogue, Unity, etc., are just a side plots.

The whole story really went off the rails after Desmond died imo. There’s no overarching story anymore. It’s not that Desmond was this awesome character, but he gave us a connection to the modern day. It felt like every installment propelled the story forward.
@scottmemelord6130
@scottmemelord6130 Жыл бұрын
Honestly the original plan the original writer gave before Ubisoft fired him sounded so much cooler than what we got. There was none of him dying or that stupid sun apocalypse nonsense. (EDIT: Okay maybe there was, it just mentions some non-descript apocalypse apparently that both parties were supposed to team up to stop. lol.) Instead, Desmond was meant to master the bleeding effect and basically become the ultimate assassin. Presumably then he was going to rebuild the modern assassin order and presumably defeat the Templars in some way or severely weaken them. Would've been so much cooler than him just frying his arm and dropping dead and then essentially being forgotten. People thought the modern day story was bad before, without Desmond I was so utterly disinterested in what was going on it was painful every time I got pulled out of the animus. Like you said, Desmond wasn't this super amazing character but he was way better and more interesting than people gave him credit for. Not to mention he WAS the main character more or less, like it or not and it's not surprising the series got really lost after removing him. You can't just remove the protagonist and expect the story to carry on. EDIT: Read another comment on this video apparently it was supposed to turn into this Marvel tier plot where both sides teamed up to save the world and declared Desmond their leader? I think I liked my idea better tbh. lol

It's refreshing to have two witty, not that troubled main characters. However, the story was the most replacable I have ever seen in AC. So do I. I cannot help from not thinking about how great AC could have been if they continued with a new modern day character to battle Juno and try to prevent her return as a messiah. How it should have been a female character as Eve, with Desmond being Adam, who would find Eve in the Animus as commanded to Desmond by Clay Kaczmarek, and with the other Assassin Cells try to prevent Abstergo's Project Phoenix, restore the Assassin order with the help of the Initiates who would fill their ranks, fight against a new plot of Abstergo for total domination (complete surveillance, biochips in every person etc.). I really do believe that AC4 should still exist as it was but with a bit better Modern Day. For example, the Abstergo Employ to have an identity and to play him as third person, and to be an Assassin Informant planted into Abstergo Entertainment to discover Abstero/Templar Secrets, and the realization that Juno's digital consciousness has really been set free and is lurking the digital world. Or even better an Erudito Agent. And AC4 should serve as a link between Desmond's Saga and Juno's Saga. But just imagine how amazing it would have been if AC Rogue was released with a better story in 2015, instead of 2014, continuing the storyline of the Abstergo Employ/Assassin Informant, leading us to the information of the Project Phoenix and how Abstergo Industries have been compromised by the Instruments of the First Will, who would bring back Juno in a new body and present her as a ressurected messiah, and then bring rebirth of the Precursors with their ancient DNA from the Blood Vials (like those of the Observatry), while also genetically enhancing Humans to become like the Ancients as well, giving birth to a new human race. So basically it would be a issue of Transhumanism, while also of Slavery, which would be the fate of the unmodified Humans. Then the Abstergo Employ/Assassin Informant would discover that Project Phoenix is being developed in the Abstergo Facilities and European Headquarters in Paris, leading into the next AC game, Assassin's Creed 5 (AC Unity).

Exactly. The dev’s decision to kill Desmond felt like the end of the franchise. They shouldn’t have made his life so final and should have given the next game a chance to pick up the pieces. It became less grounded and I wasn’t as emotionally engaged, like when they killed Lucy I was shocked. I agree, I love the later games, but my amazement is in the gameplay, not the storyline.

I think the only issue with Desmond was that more time was needed to give him a character. AC3 tried this by mirroring him and his father's relationship with Connors and Haythams and that wasn't a bad idea. Could've been executed better in the earlier games though. Giving him a stronger purpose with the characters in the games.

Its impact is still felt in so many games to date. But it was completely different back then. Parcour was more realistic, you had to spot and grab ledges instead of just "going upwards", and the crowd would realistically react to your behaviour. I still remember how proud Ubisoft was of the crowd behaviour and the parcour back then :D Glad I got to be part of that groundbreaking time :)

@@kyaryi1 No, actually we do not dissagree. AC Unity (or AC5 as it should have been if it was the actual start of Juno's Saga) is an amazing and beautiful game, and as a concept is the epitome of AC's gameplay and environment. The world of AC Unity is really a work of art! Unfortunately, Ubisoft released it too early for it's own good, and while AC Unity is fantastic, it is also arguably a very unfinished game, which was released to early and which should have been more developed in my opinion, both in terms of gameplay (freerunning, combat, map etc), but also of storytelling (modern day plot with a new protagonist, a much more complex story of Arno with more involvement in the politics of the time, and with the continuation of Arno's story beyond to where it was left in game). Because even now that the game has been patched and works flawlessly, the story still seems to undeveloped and haste, while Arno's memories end abruptly. It is a bit as if we left the story of Ezio Auditore in AC2, and then never revisited his life in AC Brotherhood and AC Revelations. In my view, AC4 shoud have been released in 2013 as it really was, and AC Rogue should have come out in 2014 alone. These two games should have served as an intermediate duology between Desmond's Saga and Juno's Saga, with an Abstergo Employee/Assassin Informant being an actual third person character with personality, who was planted into Abstergo Entertainment by the Assassins to undercover Templar secrets and future plans. AC4 would have been what it realy was, about how a random pirate (Edward) became entagled in the Assassin-Templar War and eventually believed in the Creed and became an Assassin, while AC Rogue would have been about an Assassin (Shay) who eventually came to see the flaws in the extreme version of the Creed and the arguements of the Templars, and abandoned his former ideology for the opposing one, both mostly based on philosophical reasons. Eventually, the Assassin Informant would discover information about Project Phoenix, that Juno has indeed returned and become stronger, and that Abstergo was experimenting with cloning in Paris, leadind into AC5. Then he would escape from Abstergo and rejoind the Assassins. After that, AC Unity would have been released in 2016 instead of 2014 that it actually did, with one year gap with no AC game and two years of additional development in all aspects. Imagine if AC5 had much more places to go beyond Paris, which could have been much larger in order to include it's suburbs like the Versailles and Saint-Denis. Imagine if there were also other cities where many historical events of the era had unfolded, and that Arno could ride horces (and a carriages) around the cities and the countryside. There could have been many more missions of an even larger variety as well. But the most important addition would be if they had made also a modern day story with a new protagonist, set in Modern Paris, by reusing the already existing model of 18th century Paris. So the same thing they did with Monteriggioni back in AC Brotherhood. I wish that the story of Arno would have been much more developed , where we would witness how he became one of the most important French Assassins of the time, by reliving his memories through the French Revolution, the First French Republic, the First French Empire and the Napoleonic Wars, and the Bourbon Restoration. In my view, the start of the story should have been pretty much the same, albeit more complex and developed. We could have been show more about Arno's life before he became an Assassin (like we did with Ezio) for example. Also, the Assassins would play a much more active role in the events of the era, first by wanting peace but then endoce in the French Revolution trying to keep it away from Templar influence and secure the democracy and freedom of the oppresed Third Estate, but then be discusted by the Renegade Templar induced Reign of Terror, trying to prevent the carnage. Arno would have to choose duty (saving many people in a horrible event) over love (Elise arrogantly trying to kill the Templar Grand Master of the split Templar Order), which would lead to Elise dying and Arno shattered in grief. He would eventually recover and understand that she caused her own downfall by being consumed in hatred and lust for vengeance. Later the Assassins would hunt down and kill the Grandmaster of the Renegade Templars (the extremist schesmatics, lead by François-Thomas Germain), and destroy the last remains of them. However, the traditional Templars would have recovered from their blow by the death of their former Grandmaster, François de la Serre, and the purging of his supporters, and would be reorganized under a new one, Napoleon Bonaparte. Their machinations would eventally lead to the convesion of the First French Republic into the First French Empire and using the Apple of Eden, Napoleon would become Emperor of France with absolute authority, by hunting down the French Assassins and the Republican Loyalists after the downfall of the French Consulate. The French Assassin Order would suffer a terrible blow as the Assassin Counsil woud be slaughered and the Assassin Headquarters below Sainte-Chapelle would have been burned down. The former friend and ally of Arno would become the worse enemy of the Assassins, and Arno would hunt him down across Europe during the Napoleontic Wars, from Spain to England and Egypt to Russia. After the War of the Sixth Coalition, which would be Assassin influenced, Napoleon would be defeated and exiled to Elba, while the Apple would be taken away by Arno who would hide it. The Sword of Eden could have been pivotal in the removal of the Apple from him, as unlike the Apple of Eden, it was also deviced to best other First Civilization technology and kill Precursors as well (this would be important in the future for the modern Assassins, as a weapon to figth agaisnt Juno). After the Hundred Days War, where the European Templars would try once again to dominate Europe (and thus most of the World), Napoleon would be exiled in Saint Helena by the British. The former Templar Grandmaster and French Emperor would finaly die from poisoning by the French and British Assassins, as he was deemed to dangerous and they would not accept taking chanses of an other Templar resurgence. Arno Dorian and the French Assassin Leadership under a new Mentor would rebuild the French Assassin Order and France, and they would be pivotal in influencing the Congress of Vienna in 1815 and the subsequent balance of powers in Europe, but also aiding in many revolts that aimed in the freedom and representation of the people, societal and national (Greek Revolution, Revolutions of 1830 and 1848 etc.). Ultimately, Arno Dorian would retire for a time, while also creating a family, as by this point, he would be 47 years old (about 7 years younger than the age of Ezio (54), when he gave up his life as an Assassin).

The issue with the storyline is that it was clearly meant to end there. Altair descovered the ancients and because of that they chose his bloodline to be the prophetsand relay the message trough ezio first and desmond later. Then the series ends with the uplifting scene desmond receiving the message carried trough history to him and preparing to really join the fight as an assassin against templars and ancients alike, and it would close the story but leave a thread that a second chapter. maybe it would've been more focused on the real world timeline where desmond picked up the torch from his ancestors and rised up as the modern grandmaster of the assassins toesolve both the apocalypse and templar issues, maybe using the animus more sparingly to find the puzzle pieces he still missed or more likely in the shoes of a new ancestor who had knowledge of whatever ancient mcguffin would save the world now. So yeah, basically what 3 tried to condense in a single game and not shit. But ubisoft wanted to get rid of desmond so we got what we got but it's not like it couldn't be saved, it's always been a generational story so just say desmond had a son he himself didn't know about, give it a timeskip and voilà, he could even meet desmond trough the animus or something like that for the ultimate fanservice

@@npc6817 He does have a son he doesn't know about. That son is a sage. The Titan Comics are really amazing. Too bad they couldn't do a decent job of telling a story in the actual games. If you loved Assassin's Creed from the Desmond days, the comics scratch that itch. Layla's story is so poorly told that even if it was interesting on paper, which it isn't even, it would still be awful. Ubisoft can find the budget to make a 1:1 version Greece that would benefit greatly from being MUCH smaller. They should cut some of it and allocate that budget to a decent script for the entire game rather than putting it all into a terrible animus plot.

I second this. I briefly played the assassins creed games when I was 9/10 years old. But, being completely honest, it was mostly just me fucking around in the open world and running into walls because of how bad I was. Hell, I didn’t even discover Connor in AC3 until I had logged like 15 hours in on the game. The first assassins creed game I actually played through completely was Black Flag when I was 15 years old. And I cried when the ending came up. But I wasn’t interested in the modern story to really invest myself in buying the other games. Then I revisited the franchise when I was 16 to play Odyssey. I’m a hellenic pagan so the promise of being able to play a game taking place in Ancient Greece, surrounded with hellenic culture and religion sounded amazing. And I’m not sorry but I actually really enjoyed it. The game has its very obvious flaws but overall I enjoyed it. I’m also incredibly into Norse history and ancient Norse culture and religion. So obviously I also bought Valhalla. I haven’t finished playing through this game, yet because, when I was in the middle of playing it in March of 2021, I saw that the other Assassins Creed games were on sale and decided to play the whole franchise so I could understand the context. With that being said, I’ve been playing through the games (excluding AC1 because the PlayStation store doesn’t have it) since then and the older games genuinely just hit different from the newer ones or even the ones in between. I can’t describe it exactly but it was nice when the collectibles actually made sense to the story. Ezio collects feathers because his brother used to and his grieving mother would love to have them in AC2. AC2 & Brotherhood, you have the option to find glyphs and whatnot which gives you information about Clay/Subject 16. It just feels like everything has a reason for being there, whereas in later games you’ll just have random collectibles for… reasons. There’s other shit too like even though I already knew about the Isu thanks to AC Odyssey, discovering them along with Desmond felt like something new and exciting. I literally got chills when Minerva turns to the camera to talk to Desmond. It’s just a whole other vibe and I love it.

Agreed, I miss the feeling of being part of a brotherhood, and in general just being an assassin (not a spartan or a pirate) some of my fondest memories were finding out that there was this other civilization before and the modern day became so cool, deepened the story tremendously and gave layers to the game that made it so special

I also miss the old Assassin's Creed game. I played every Assassins Creed game till date including mobile games. But I never feel the same satisfaction once I felt during playing Ezio trilogy and desmond's story. Like Casey Hudson's Mass Effect trilogy and Adrejz Sapkowski and Marcin Blacha's Witcher Trilogy, I adored Patrice Désilets's Ezio Trilogy. When Casey Hudson left Bioware Mass Effect Andromeda does not have that same magic of the original trilogy similarly when Patrice Désilets left Ubisoft Assassins creed doesn't have that magic of Ezio trilogy. It is a shame. I am not saying that Mass effect Andromeda and Assassins Creed Oddesy and Origins are bad games, they are good games but not great games like once they were(Mass Effect 2,3 and Assassins Creed 2, Brotherhood). I hope for the best for future Assassins Creed games and Mass Effect games. But I know Ubisoft and Bioware are not the same studios it once was. The expectation from investors and greed simply relinquished their Creative nature.

Pretty much agree with everything here. There's something to be said about the power of the "auteur" in video games. This series have been passed around so many times to so many people. It's the price you pay for a new game coming out every year (or every other year) and the price you pay for having a successful franchise... Although Ubisoft didn't have to do it the way they did. Thanks for the insight and thanks for watching!

This is exactly how I feel. I really loved the multilayered storytelling. It was SOOO awesome. "Who are we, who have been so blessed to share our stories like this? To speak across centuries? Maybe you will answer all the questions I have asked. Maybe you will be the one to make all this suffering worth something in the end." This beautiful writing really isn't matched in the new ones. I really really hate the action RPG element of the new ones. I miss THIS assassin's creed. How does a game where you relive old memories have dialogue options??? How does that make sense. Why do I have the ability to pick the gender of my character? Ubisoft doesn't have the balls to make a game with a sole female protagonist.

Old assassins creed was consistent, very memorable, great characters, amazing character development. Renown, armour and weapons had to be earned, not to be given as soon as we start the game and especially not paid for. The new ones aren't even about assassins, I swear I've done barely any parkour, the fighting is all about skill and grind. Its good but, its just a different game entirely. Quite sad actually.

what i loved about the old assassins creed is the lore the first civ, desmond the plot, once desmond (spoilerword) the game sortof ended for me it's like the walking dead it has no plot so i am not invested in it, with ac4 there was barely any plot apart from the ingame plot thats when i started to feel disappointed the whole thing that got me hooked was to be pulled out and continue the main story, to move towards something in my case to find out more about why altair was able to summon a map from the apple, then i found out more about the first civ and thats when i got extremely hooked, i was glued to this game series after playing 2 i wanted to know everything about the first civ and how desmonds story develops. like if they were to make an entire game set in the beginning where you get to see the uprising experience it, see eden, see the end a truel prequel to then find out theres more before that too, i would be all over that, i don't care a whole lot for stories whithin the animus they are good but they serve no purpose, i want the modern day to have more focus, when it comes to odyssey the mention of atlantis got me hooked to then play through that atlantis dlc i loved that but it was just too little of what i wanted, i got so facinated by how this game series took our own unexplained mysteries and gave them logical explanations or merged them with fantasy theres lore on everything, hitler, ford, nikola tesla, anything in this world is in assassins creed and thats what i find facinating and so interesting to read about to the point of me reading every single text about every historical figure including juno including aita.

Assassin’s Creed went from being my favorite franchise, to being almost unplayable. The RPG genre change left me feeling alienated as a huge fan of the original format. On top of that, it felt like Ubisoft caved to the pressure of non AC fans and instead of following their own vision, twisted and altered the franchise to cater to internet complaints. Strip away the modern day, let the player dictate who the protagonist is, stop telling a story and instead make it an historic sandbox. After the Desmond trilogy I had hoped they would follow it up with another trilogy. As Desmond was a descendent of Adam, this time we would play as a descendent of Eve and the trilogy would focus on the first civilization and saving the world. The potential was there, but they abandoned it. I could rant all day about this, but I’ll show restraint and stop here.

You had Altair, Ezio and Connor with their own journeys and family relations but after that black flag is a pirate game and unity is a love story. "It works?!" Come on! Enemies being damage sponges and complete lack of logical stealth (hidden blade from behind doesn't kill) works? Grinding levels doing mostly meaningless side quests works? Completely ditching any semblance of historical accuracy in order to force the fantasy RPG aspect, because "everyone loves The Witcher 3 and Souls games" also works? Having complete disregard for their own lore within their own universe (Assassins being founded after Darius, because I guess Persia isn't as cool as Egypt) also works? Showing the actual creation of the Assassins as an endgame cutscene in a 40+ hours of game called Origins works too? And then going back 500 years to a time with no Assassins, no Templars (the cult, riiiight), no hidden blade (except Darius of course, but again, that doesn't count until it does) for no reason other than being able to reuse a lot of assets from Origins, them having free reign to shoehorn even more lootboxes, force RPG elements etc and people still kind of remember when "This is Sparta!!!" was all the rage. In the past games the suspension of disbelief was mostly limited to the jump distance and Leap of Faith, and also walking among civilians in broad daylight armored and armed to the teeth while engaging in social stealth, but in Odyssey you can front kick a guy (only if appropriate level) 30 feet, because it was an awesome scene in 300, and in both Origins and Odyssey, you hack and slash through literal armies, all the while having Predator tech? Does that work too? Back in AC3 and AC4 Connor and Edward could feel overpowered but it at least looked somewhat realistic. Now you're saying that a guy or girl in ancient Egypt or Greece, armed with flaming swords, guiding bows, Ghost Rider fire horses and God knows what else works? Further, replacing Eagle Vision with an actual eagle, coz why have something a bit different but still familiar and consistent lorewise when you can just copy the stuff from other Ubi games (drones from Division, tri-rotor from Blacklist, and owl from Primal work almost exactly like Senu and Ikaros) also works? I'm not ranting against you personally, but I just don't get how can so many people justify all the changes from Origins and Odyssey, when they've clearly lost almost all connection to what it was all about. For me, personally, nothing about the new games works, and just to clarify, for me it didn't start with Origins, it started with Evie becoming literally invisible in Syndicate. The last AC game that actually gave a crap what AC was all about was Unity, but I guess the only thing that can now be talked about Unity ad nauseam are the bugs largely non-existent after the patches, but who cares, right? It's all about bigger and prettier now. As for the both overarching and character story, they clearly started giving less and less sh*t after AC3/AC4, and doing it only because it was there before. We''ll see if Valhalla doubles down on the trend or if it can take it down a notch and show us that they do care just a bit about this franchise staying true to its roots.

First of all, thank you for writing this! You're right, a LOT has changed. Definitely a shift toward fantasy elements. I think they chose to go that direction because it's easier to market and less serious. Super heroes are pretty big these days. A lot of the points you're making I agree with, but I didn't share them in this video because I wanted to focus *mostly* on what I thought was special about the original games from a narrative perspective. I felt like the aSsAsIn'S cReEd SuCkS nOw!1! bit has been done too many times on KZbin, so I wanted to share my opinion from more of a personal perspective. Also you touched on a lot of gameplay changes that I agree with. I wish this video hadn't already taken me four weeks so I had time to go through and evaluate that part of the game outside of my tiny 2 minute segment at the end. I prefer the older games I don't let that ruin my enjoyment of the newer ones. It sounds like you're coming from the purist perspective -- Assassin's Creed is supposed to be X because that's how it started. I just don't think that's realistic for a series that's been running this long and has been shuffled around as much as this has. It had to evolve somehow. I think there is a good argument to be made that it could've changed differently, but when I look at the overall product of Origins and Odyssey? They're 8/10 games for me. They're fun, play them once, move on.
@arap8217
@arap8217 4 жыл бұрын
@@jayveeeee First of all, you're very welcome, and thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate the direction that you took in your video, mainly because, as you said, there are many videos about why the franchise sucks now, as you put it. You said "I prefer the older games I don't let that ruin my enjoyment of the newer ones." That's just it, I can't enjoy the newer games precisely because I like the older ones. How am I supposed to enjoy these new ones, when they've pretty much eliminated everything that was the hallmark of the series, with the exception of climbing mechanics and open world? Also, I am finding it really tiresome to be constantly called a purist when talking about these newer games. I feel that's a really lazy copout for people who just don't care enough about the series to begin with, and are hence not bothered by all the glaring radical differences. If I were a purist, I'd want all AC games to be like the first one, and that's not the case at all. Every sequel until Syndicate added to the gameplay and the lore, without fundamentally changing the essence. It was mostly about making the fundamentals work in a new setting with gameplay tweaks to not make it stale. Some worked better than others, but it didn't completely change what the games were about. I'm perfectly willing to accept that Origins and Odyssey are 8/10 games for you. However, to me it just shows that you were really not invested enough in the core of what AC actually was and is supposed to be, otherwise you'd be bothered by mostly if not all same things. Think of it like this: If you were really into Indiana Jones movies, and they made a new one, but this time, instead of it being an action adventure, it's a really good deep character study drama, focused on character deconstruction, with only surface level connections to what it once was, and some vague half-assed attempts to connect it to the overarching thread/theme of those movies, would you still be so cavalier about it as you are with this? I don't think so honestly. If I want to play Witcher 3, I'll play that. If I wanted to play Souls series, I'll go do that. And If I want to watch There Will Be Blood, I'll not watch Indiana Jones: Downfall. I will not play some inferior mix/imitation/clone of the two, inferior in all aspects to those original games, and be happy and quiet about it just because they slapped the AC logo on it to make it sell better. I want to play a new AC game, with all the elements that made us fall in love with the series honed to perfection with just enough tweaks to make it fresh and exciting. I don't mind a fresh coat of paint, a different presentation or any other change they make, as long as they keep the core intact. The problem is that Ubi started working from the core outwards and here we are. The point I'm making is about you saying it works. Yeah, it works, but only if you are willing to not really give a crap what those games fundamentally were and are supposed to be, so just turn off your brain, eat it up, play them once and move on. I'd prefer to have something to return to for different reasons than to find better loot. P.S. As if to prove my point about Ubi not giving a crap and people eating it up, the trailer for Valhalla dropped. The only AC things about it are the title and the copy of Darius' hidden blade (now worn on the left arm WOW), shown in the last 11 seconds of a 4.11 minute trailer. Aside from that, it might as well have been the trailer for Total War: Thrones of Britannia 2, For Honor: Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, or Vikings: The Game, without changing a single frame. Hell of a way to promote the new AC game, make the first trailer focus on everything but Assassin's Creed. I think you'll love it.

@@arap8217 Not only you dislike the change because you believe it should have stayed the old way(which is fair, you can think that), but you go as far to declare anyone who likes these changes "not really invested". If disliking change doesnt make you a purist, which doesn't by itself, then deciding who is actually invested in does. You said they made changes in past to not make it stale, but people thought it became stale.Many people say how they lost interest after Desmond died, that is 4 more games that were like old ones that people weren't interested in.

@@tuncvt 1. Read my comments again, please. I said "to me it just shows that you were really not invested" meaning it's my opinion, not a fact. I didn't "decide" anything, I expressed my personal view. I see those people as such, doesn't mean everyone else does or should. I almost always make the effort to say "I think", "it's my opinion" etc. unless actually talking about things objectively true. Unlike you and the poster of this video I tend not not to say "it is..." or "they are..." but "I think it is..." "to me they are..." which, in fact, makes a huge difference. An opinion is not a fact. 2. As for who's interested in what, most of the comments about not being interested after Desmond died are about the modern day setting and story, not the historical aspect. Not that many people had a problem with the whole history part, believe it or not. Also, I never said there wasn't room for improvement and that everything was perfect the way it was, I just wanted them to not touch the core of what AC was as I've already said. Most of those "purists" would agree with me on that, as far my experience when talking to them goes. 3. The problem I had with this video was the poster said "it works" as a matter of fact, not explaining what actually works, or why it actually works. However, there is and has actually been a pretty sizable group of older fans for whom it absolutely doesn't work. Maybe not enough to make Ubisoft care judging from Valhalla trailer (still hoping to be proved wrong by the gameplay), but still. 4. Please try disprove my points by actually commenting on all that I've said (a lot I know), and not by basically again saying that I am the purist and that people just weren't interested in the old style of AC, there are too many lazy people as it is.

@@arap8217 The fact that you think accepting these changes means not being invested tells me that from your own perspective, not doing that is the only way someone may be invested. Considering that you have no authority to make that judgement as you also have said, this led me to believe you have a perspective of a purist which there are particular set of believes/opinions/positions to take that defines someone as "actually invested", in your eyes at least. You arent a purist in the sense of objective authority, but one that has such view of the situation, is what your comments made me believe

Crazy that this video popped up when it did. I have been hearing for the last year or so that AC: Unity is actually criminally underrated and got a really bad rap for it's initial technical shortcomings. It was on sale for 8 bucks on the playstation store so I picked it up, and I am absolutely in love with it. Black Flag is actually where I jumped off. It was an excellent pirate game but a bad AC game...it just didn't feel the same. Future games in the series never managed to capture me after that point because it just didn't seem like Assassin's Creed. Unity though....man, they were really onto something there. It feels like a really solid evolution of the gameplay. The parkour, MY GOD THE PARKOUR is just buttery smooth compared to the other games. That should have honestly been the starting point. Focus more on being a master assassin who's incredibly agile and quick, but instead we get RPGs. Don't get me wrong I love RPGs but Asssassin's Creed is, at it's core, not that.

The developers never made it through odyssey, they used all their budget without saving any for time savers. The developers are just playing through the full game for the first time now.

I personally believe that every idea, every story, every series has a window of time to be experienced in a certain way. From 2007 to 2013, Assassin’s Creed had its time to be experienced for the first time, but now we know what that experience is like because we’ve already... well, experienced it. You can’t put the genie back into the bottle and expect to feel the same way like you did the 1st time. It’s a sad truth that I’ve come to accept. I’ll always love the original games and will replay them over time, but Assassin’s Creed had its time and we will never see it again, no matter how many games they try to do, nor how many “return to basics” they attempt. This is why I believe that a series should always have an endgame, a finale to leave the series off on. Because we need new things in order to experience them for the first time, not recreate something that has already been done.

This is very interesting since I have just finished ac 1 for the first time ever, I'm on 2 now and I am playing through to revelations. Got them all a month ago and it's my first time playing through and I am enjoying my time with them more than Valhalla. So it's not just a nostalgia thing. So far I actually prefer ac 1 than 2 because of its darker tone
