Faced the exact same thing while returning from Goa to Chennai last week. Luckily one amazing airport personnel called back my check in suitcase and had it put in it and I was able to just board the flight minutes before take off. Surprising as I had just arrived carrying it in my check in bag from Chennai to goa a couple days earlier.!!

Hi!Gorgeous! I faced the same problem for my dji mini drone while traveling from BLR-JAIPUR on 11 Nov20 but I carried my drone with me during flight travel as I kept in checkin bag after a bit questioning by security personals they advised me to keep drone batteries in handbag (laptop bag) and drone in checkin baggage. For thrice times I was doing up and down and this got me irritated but somehow I keep myself calm and finally I bring the drone with myself. Just to suggest all that keep yr drone batteries in handbag insted of checkin baggage. If possible whenever security personal ask what type drone you are carrying just say them it's a toy crafter which is min 250 mg only (only for dji mini drone) ...nothing else have to mention beside this. I am a travel professional and I have kept my drone safely with me during travel with keeping my mind and behaviour calm at the airport and during a bit questioning by security personals.

you could have simple called back your luggage and put it in checkin luggage. we always travel with drones for work without issues. We always put our drone in checkin and remaining accessories in your handbag. checkin - Drone (compulsary), Remote (optional), chargers and other charging equipment (optional) handbag - batteries (compulsary), remote (optional)

The DGCA's handling of Drones in India is draconian and outright stupid. India has become the most restrictive country to own a drone and they treat a drone as if it's a criminal offence to own one. I flew from Bagdogra last week and had my drone in my checked-in my luggage with the batteries removed. Even then I was forced to open my suitcase, show the drone and was cross questioned for nearly 15mins. All this for carrying a Mavic mini which is a nano drone and doesn't even require a license to own and fly! Thanks for all the information! And hope the government will revert some of these outlandish laws in the near future.

Yes. I travelled twice after this incident. There is no problem. Drone body needs to go in the check-in bag and you can carry RC and Batteries in the carry-on.

I’m not sure which drone you had. But if they agreed that you can put the drone in checkin baggage then you could have taken the battery module out of the drone and put the drone in checkin bag. That way you will have lithium ion batteries in your hand bag (as per the rule) and the drone itself in checkin bag (as they asked). Anyways, the thing is there is NO clear regulations about drones or UAV in India yet. Everyone has their own ideology about what should be done for travelling with drones in India. But the workaround I have mentioned is by default the safest way to travel and it minimises the chances of getting called out. Nice video though. Hope you had a good holiday at home.

I don't know why they said that new rule.. as far as i know this rule is there since more than one year now, You only can carry drone in your checked-in baggage never in hand bag. You only can carry your drone battery in hand luggage never in check in. Drone battery should be completely drained. Never keep dron with battery. These are rules clearly mentioned in Drone registration website. Shameful that air india is not helping you. To all others, you can easily take drones no need to worry, the thing is that you need to understand law properly.👍

My experience with Mumbai airport has been horrible. I am not a mumbai resident and have the luxury to decide not to fly in/out/transit via mumbai Airport. The attitude is very rough right from entry to Airligner counter and immigration. The security at the entrance asks more questions than immigration officer and they are very rough. First mumbai connect was in 2006 and second time boarded international flight in this year 2022 June. Both were horrible experience.

maam, how can i bring my air 2 drone from qatar to india , kerala ? i have seen your vdo telling that to keep drone in checkig bag and battery and remote in hand bag ,btw i have the combo of air 2 with 3 batteries is there any problem..what if they found my drone from bag what should they ask and what should i tell.. pls help me ,

just unpack everything, it should not look brand new, and keep the drone body in check in bag. Batteries will go in carry on. RC can go anywhere no issue with that. Custom might be an issue but just pray and you'll be fine.
