I grew up as a child in the early 60's staying with my cousins on Carmel Rd. just off of Providence. 200,000 plus people. Boy the small large country town has transformed itself into an amazing city. NC needs an influential city with a vibe and Charlotte has become that. If you could have seen the town I remember as a child you would not believe your eyes. Queen Charlotte has all grown up.

I discovered that it's 2nd in banking by total assests behind NYC. I like it because it has all the sporting events, concerts, etc. Also Shallow Hal with Jack Black was filmed in Charlotte. Is also where Michael Jordan, Randy Moss, Allen Iverson, Nelly, Angie Harmon, Dababy, MrBeast (most successful youtuber) is from Greenville but lives here as well. I moved here from Miami. I grew up there. But I must say, I don't miss it. Unless you're on the wealthy side or like to be really fake, I'd rather live here in Charlotte. If I want a beach, I can drive 3 hrs to Myrtle beach ⛱️ (which I love) or I can go 2 hrs to the mountains. White water rafting is nearby.

Welcome to Charlotte! Uptown is really nice and it’s changing incredibly fast. There is another grocery store in Uptown and that’s Harris Teeter. Also, there are shops but they are here and there and not very concentrated in one location. If you venture out to South Park, you’ll find quite a number of shops. NoDa is a good shopping place as well.

I just moved to Charlotte too and I'm loving it. I prefer outside of the uptown centre area tho. Plenty of amazing restaurants with vegan options. I recommend Common Market on NoDa which has an amazing wrap called the Tree Hugger. It's the best wrap I ever tasted. I recommend it even if you're far from veganism. There is also an amazing restaurant/pub called Whiskey Club or something like that. They play amazing 80s 90s rock n roll and have plenty of drinks and burgers including vegan options.

@@ChaseTheHorizonYT I live right outside of Dilworth near Freedom Park. I'd recommend checking out Freedom Park if you haven't already. If you want to look at some of Charlotte's older neighborhoods, take a walk in Plaza Midwood, Dilworth, Eastover and Myers Park. Love walking / driving through there over the holidays. Much better than any paid attraction for holiday lights. As others have said, take the light rail up to NoDa or to Southend. I'm not particularly a fan of southend but it is popular with people your age. If you like parks, also check out Reedy Creek Park, Latta Park and the Carolina Raptor Center, McAlpine Creek Park. Just over the SC line is a beautiful park - Anne Springs Close Greenway. I got lost there once but i didn't regret it. They do charge a small fee though.

I'm an original...born and raised in the QC, and I totally agree. But believe it or not at one time (late 70's - early 80s') up town was a major shopping district. It's where all our major department stores (Belk's, Ivey's - now Dillard's, etc.) were located, as well as countless mom and pops clothing stores, eateries, chain restaurants, etc. were located. Back then, on any given day you would find thousands of shoppers roaming the streets of uptown. But with the rise of shopping malls (Southpark, Eastland, etc.) and their popularity in the 80s', the then city council/manager thought it would be a great idea to turn uptown into a banking/business district only. A move the city quickly regretted. So it is now slowly trying to revitalize the area with shops, restaurants, entertainment, etc. Just a little history from a native.
@ChaseTheHorizonYT
@ChaseTheHorizonYT Жыл бұрын
@@stardust0813 oh man that is so fascinating! I would kill to see a photo of the area from the 70/80’s era. Although at the time they may have regretted it, I do have to say it put in place the “bones” to be a top American city. Although probably a terrible short term idea, in todays America I feel it is a lot easier to add some shops opposed to trying to convince billion dollar banking corporations to relocate their HQ here! In my opinion, the corporate stronghold here appears to have been pivotal in its quick rise to one of the fastest growing cities in the nation 😁 just my thoughts! Curious on your thoughts as a native

My parents moved to Uptown Charlotte a few years ago and they seem to really like it. I'll admit I have not made it down there yet but I appreciated your walking tour. It does seem pretty there with lots of beautiful shiny new buildings. I do feel it does miss some of the character that prewar buildings give a city. Late reply to you. You will need a car. Even if the grocery store etc is two blocks away you will still need to get to the Post Office, UPS Store, doctors, a vet maybe, gym, entertainment venues like the Bellk theatre, maybe a place of worship. To actually do anything and visit the restaurants and points of interest again, you need a car. This is not NYC, Philadelphia, Boston and driving is a must. Public transportation is a joke and goes North-South whilst the city consists of circular neighborhoods.

@ChaseTheHorizonYT
@ChaseTheHorizonYT Жыл бұрын
I have to say, I was nervous about the humidity but this summer hasn’t been nearly as bad as the NYC area! I chose Charlotte over Raleigh for the speed. Raleigh was just too slow when I visited and Charlotte always has something going on to do. For families (looking to start one myself) I would highly suggest looking at Fort Mill (make sure it is Fort Mill school district). You are only about 20-30 minutes from the heart of the city, you have the luxury of saving on taxes being it is on the southern side of the North and South Carolina border, and the school district is said to be fantastic! I have visited the town a few times and it is beautiful. I’d also suggest looking into Tega Cay (just next to Fort Mill on the southern side) as well as Ballantyne, which is in Charlotte. I hope this helped!

I'm an NC native and I gotta say, you really can't compare NC to the rest of the southeast. We're more purple, have great geographical variety, and have big cities (like Charlotte). We've also got some great little towns, so you've got tons of options around. Charlotte is your best bet for a busy city, Raleigh is nice if you're looking for something slower paced and wanna raise a family. I think we're far superior to Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia (except maybe Atlanta, depending on what your style is), and the rest of the low country states like Alabama, etc. NC is definitely a gem. However, yeah it gets hot during the summer lol. I like to think NC is a very good middle ground between the extremes of all the states in the US.

Thought I might help you out. All the new apartments, townhouses, homes means property management is one area to make money. Lawn care with all the new lawn, landscaping, screen installation (took me two months to book), junk removal and things like washer dryer rentals as many rentals in NC lack a WD. Same with screens. Vet care because all the new people have pets and the practices are overloaded with new clients.

So bud the year passed, how do you like our beautiful Charlotte?)

😲 “ ‘ ONLY TIME WILL TELL! ’ …. Indeed, Charlotte’s spectacular and up-and-coming. However, ‘ only handles not only the unintended consequences that come with high-profile expansion and explosive growth. NYC, Chicago, LA, and many other more established markets have already ’ been there and done that ’ . But the real test will be not only what will happen when ‘ the good times ’ end and the problems keep coming. Many places look and feel marvelous when their skylines are expanding along with other exciting, new, developments and attractions. However, Many don’t find out what places are truly like until things aren’t doing so well (ex: Local Recessions, Business Closures, Mass Layoffs, Population Decrease, Affordability, Crime, Racial Strife and Socioeconomic Disparity, Etc.) that actually show what they’re made of. ”

Very good points! I definitely is interesting to be in a city still in such a rapidly growing phase 😁

Parts of it do, but in my opinion they don’t have nearly the same effect they do here - probably because the streets are so much bigger? What are your thoughts? Thank you for watching! 😁

😄😄 That's funny. The native Charlotte people hate all you New Yorkers moving there. Philly too. It's funny you said that

It’s like we’ve heard how garbage our state is from New Yorkers for so long and now we’ve built something we can be proud of, here they come calling it home. Nah. Keep that same energy

Agreed. I’ve found that Charlotte doesn’t really have as much to do as nyc. But i digress , the epicenter seemed sorta slow to me , and Tryon st was the block that seemed the most lively to me

I personally did not like living in Charlotte. No originality, all cookie cutter buildings. The food scene is average. Besides the white water center, not much to do outside
