On a hunch I looked on e-bay and it does appear to be a partial Great-Lakes reel, either a " Whirl-Away" or another model missing the round characteristic chrome cover, everything else is a perfect match, mystery solved!

looks like one on fleabay that has the parts needed for this one, listed as Great Lakes Whirlaway fishing reel partial

Thanks Seymour, I knew it had to be missing it's housing and whirl-away came to mind first then maybe the Hurd "super-caster.@@seymourwrasse3321

Dennis, that reel looks like the case halves are missing and doesn't require a reel seat. The long shaft to the handle, matches perfectly. As a few others have wrote, it looks like the guts of a Great Lakes Whirlaway reel. I don't think there is an oscillation gear, as the spool is narrow enough that it probably doesn't require one.

Thanks for the info I think you are right with the Great Lakes reel. I have one in my shop (somewhere) and I will try to locate it and see if there is a match - Thanks again - Dennis

Love these old oddball Reels. I don’t have a clue on the name of this Reel but I thought maybe made by Record made for another Company.

interesting reel. Sorry I can't help anymore than what others have already been theorized.

I'll bet that handle does not go with that reel originally. It is from a baitcaster style reel and is older than the other. Handle from the '40s and reel from late 50s early 60's. It is certainly a weird one.

It certainly is an odd reel - Thanks

If you ever want to share your what you know on that Vic it would also be a fun video. I grabbed one a few months back. Haven’t found much online about it. Very neat reel.
